Huh, its really a modern day Friends. Two couples (Jess and Nick, Cece and Schmidt) from the main group and one (Winston and Aly) who married outside the regular cast. Cece and Schmidt are a secret for a while and have huge will they wont they moments like Monica and Chandler, they ever struggle with having a child and get their baby at the very end of the series like Monica and Chandler. Nick and Jess play the main love interest that kinda lead on the series. Their the main focus and the big will theyre not they during all the interlingua stories, just like Ross and Rachel. They also end in a big way (her leaving with him for his book tour, Rachel staying from her promotion for Ross. And Winston and Aly would be like Phoebe and. crap, forgot his name. But they arent a main couple, but satisfying to see the character get a relationship. I wonder who would be Joey during all this?
Not to mention that we start the series with the main female (sorry Cece) coming out a very serious relationship. Sure, she didnt know them yet but thats also kind a like Rachel, she had to get to know everyone.
The end of the series is a big deal because we dya goodbye to an important set, the loft/apartment 4D. Everyone leaves together.

Im going through New Girl withdrawl rn so here I am IM SO MAD at how they threw away so much potential for NESS and cut it off with just 8 episodes: ( but so glad to have found this show, literally the show thats made me laugh out loud the most. And THE CHEMISTRY between Zooey and Jake is insane. That kiss scene is what made me realize how hot Jake is and now im a super fan, such a respectable actor. Im heartbroken that this show didnt continue for longer uhuu

I've just watched all 7 seasons and I do love it but I'm gutted that we had to wait till the end of season 6 and only 7 episodes of season 7 for Jess and nick romance I know they had a relationship in season 2 and a little bit of season 3 but come on I wanted more and no I wasn't keen on Reagan she needed to go so a little bit let down

I just realized that when Nick used a fake name it was Julias Pepperwood and thats also the main character of his novel which becomes famous and its based off a bit of their lives and everyone still has the same name but nick is pepper wood

Funny how in 500 Days of Summer, Summer has no qualms about yelling out penis in public, and in New Girl Jess can't. I imagine someone (maybe Zooey herself) made that connection, maybe a writer and thought Well, that would be interesting.

For me one of my favorite Jess and Nick moments is the fight at the end of Backslide. Its a bit obvious but I love the tension in that scene and how it is the precursor to other passionate fights.
