These are the stories that deserve a Disney animated movie! For this list, were looking at stories from a variety of cultures that we think would make for awesome Disney animated features. They can be folk tales, novels, fairy tales, or any type of legend that we thought would work. Want to

I'm not sure it would ever come into fruition, given Disney's rivalry with Universal, but I would LOVE to see Disney do an old fashioned 2D animated film adaptation of King Kong. One that closely follows the 1933 original film, with Ann Darrow, Jack Driscoll, Carl Denham, and Captain Englehorn all in their original roles and characterizations, and many of the same dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Pteranodon. I would also have Kong be initially portrayed as a fearsome, monstrous brute, but in the climax of the film, he'd be shown as merely a lonely and misunderstood creature after Ann's discovery of giant gorilla skeletons in his lair.
I 100% agree with you though about The 12 Dancing Princesses, Little Red Riding Hood, The Pied Piper, Rumpelstiltskin, The Buried Moon, and Twelfth Night. Some other stories I'd like to see Disney make into animated movies are Godzilla, Dracula, Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, The Princess and the Pea, Hansel and Gretel, Three Billy Goats Gruff, and How the Tiger Got His Stripes. Ideally, all of them would be in 2D as well.

1. If Disney or ANY studio were to adapt A Midsummer Night's Dream. Two things would have to be put into play. The movie would have to set it in Ancient Greece, like the play was and they MUST make the supernatural characters as such, supernatural.
The last thing I or any of us would want is some random modern day yokel dressed like hooker and calling herself Titania.
2. Journey to the West is another good idea. People seldom seem to adapt the story of the legendary Monkey King of China. Media only did that once, back in the 90's in the form of Monkey Magic and that was short-lived.
3. With the knowledge that Red Riding Hood was a werewolf tale. I'm not certain how Disney would depict such a dark story.
4. The Pied Piper also seems like a dark story. While one version tells of the Piper taking the kids to a land far from adults. Another tells of him leading the children to water and drowning them.
So, I'd like to see how'd they get around with that.
5. Thanks to OUAT, I feel like no other version can do Rumple justice the way Robert Carlyle did the character

If Disney adapted the story of Swan Lake in the same style as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, & The Princess and the Frog it could be the greatest adaptation they ever made. Often it is the prince who is transformed by a curse (or both in Princess and the Frog) so it would be an interesting role reversal from the princess's perspective to be the one who must find a way to get the prince to love her as a swan and brake the spell. So far there has only been one theatrical animated film adaptation (The Swan Princess) of the story, but with the storytelling and grand scale that Disney has to offer it has the potential of becoming a masterpiece. It would also be interesting to see how (similar to Sleeping Beauty 1959) they can adapt the original Tchaikovsky music into a modern soundtrack with songs. For many years countless Disney fans (myself included) have wanted to see Odette flap her wings onto the big screen and the Disney Princess lineup.

There is already a film adaptation of A Midsummer's Night Dream and its called Strange Magic made by Lucasfilms and I believe it was their final film before merging with Disney or they already merged but Disney wanted nothing to do with the film so it was branded by Lucasfilms, either way the film already exists and many people tend to associate brands owned by Disney to be completely and I mean COMPLETELY part of Disney regardless if Disney originally made the film/TV show/character in question and if Disney doesn't even associate itself with the media in question.
And some of the stories listed here has already been made into some well known films such as The Swan Princess, Don Bluth's Thumbelina, Barbie in the Twelve Dancing Princesses, etc. and have a LARGE following sooooo.

I would love to see fairytales and short stories from other cultures instead of the western ones. It shows that other cultures have beautiful and fantastic stories that truly deserve to be in movies as well. People would be sharing stories from different societies. Humanity would have probably have a better time connecting with each other. Like from the movies Black Panther, Mulan, and Moana. It was new and fresh from people who are from different cultures. What about other societies instead of from Europe?

To me, the most obvious one would be the one they recently canceled: Gigantic, their adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk.
But there's also the less known Grimm story, Snow-White and Rose-Red, which is not really related to Snowwhite and the seven dwarfs but focuses on two sisters with those names.
Then there's also several nordic tales that would be interesting to see, such as the books by Astrid Lindgren or The Troll Children and the Princess by Eli Aleksandersen.

I can see Disney combining swan lake and the wild swans together, they would call it Swanz.
Instead of them being swans during the daylight hours and people at night, it would be at will them switching back-and-forth between swan and person, Odette would fall for one of the oldest brothers and the sister that doesnt have the ability to transform into a Swan will try to get them together.

I'm thinking Hansel and Gretel or Gulliver's Travels would be good fits for the canon, and despite the probability of a film adaptation being zero-to-none, I'd kinda like to see an adaptation of The Phantom Tollbooth at some point in the future. Doesn't even have to be by Disney, I just want the book to get more love. I know Chuck Jones made a film for it, but it's pretty obscure.

I would really love to see Disney make an animated musical movie of The Wild Swans. Its a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a princess whose brothers are cursed to turn into swans, and she has to save them. Its a story about family and bravery, as well as romance, and it has a wicked villain, and also a great heroine. I think it would make a lovely story.

I know Disney when it comes to adapting classic stories, fairy tales and legends; and they are known to be 100% unfaithful to the their source materials because of creative liberties to make them more child friendly. And once they make a movie out of it, it belongs to them forever. This should have been a Top 10 fairy tales that should be made into horror movies.
reply

maybe Disney Should do Princess Kaguya. I know that studio Ghibli have give us a masterpiece quite recently but. Disney will bring a wider audience and more attention something that the character need. Ever since Naruto slaughtered her character by making her the main antagonist. Disney Princess maybe redeem her name in pop culture
reply

It would be cool if Disney could do another Little Mermaid adaptation.
Specifically a teen film about a trans-girl who magically transforms to her ideal body to have a chance with her straight best friend.
It would also be based on fairy tale, but the Disney version has a nice amount of influence.

I mostly agreed with this until you mentioned that making Anne into a modern day thing. That is not the point of the books or the show. Its supposed to show how life was durning that time, and by changing it to modern day it completely takes away from the meaning.

What about the phantom of the opera? Also other Victorian/ Edwardian novels such as North and South, the four feathers, the Blue Lagoon and the Sorrows of Satan? Do you think Disney could make an adaptation of any of them?
reply

I'd like to pitch to Disney a movie based on Ramayana. It's got everything you'd expect in a Disney movie; princes, princesses, kings, queens, talking animals, evil villains, wicked stepmothers, true love, action, etc.
reply

i am was afraid of Rumpelstiltskin in my childhood. because he break himself in two parts and goes to hell in the end. but i was afraid of the icequeen in my childhood too, and now Frozen is my favorite Disney-Movie.
reply

I know Dreamworks has already made their own loose version, but I feel Disney should get its fair share of telling the story of Puss in boots, with some more added to an animated adaptation of the actual fairy tale.
reply

Barbie movies are every bit as good as disney movies you should do videos about them! They deserve more attention!
And because barbie did the 12 dancing princesses and swan lake that's probably why disney hasn't!

reply

How about The adventures of Tom Sawyer or The adventures of Huckleberry Finn. They certainly sound like Disney Movies. Plus that hasn't happened yet so yes I like to see what Disney can do with these stories.

red shoes adaptation wizard of oz 12 dancing princesses adaptation madeline swan lake adaptation swan princess those have been done prince and the pauper adaptation princess and the pea or frog

i loved the Rumpelstiltskin and The Twelve Dancing Princesses ones. I would also love to see Snow White and Rose Red, The Goose Girl, The Princess and the Pea, The Water of Life, and Bearskin.

The Emperor's New Groove was supposed to be The Prince And The Pauper, but the story and even the musical was cut. Only two songs from Sting survived the change.
reply

Rumpelstiltskin might be an interesting idea, but the promise of a firstborn child? Yeah, Disney would REALLY need to change that or just plain edit it out. >_
reply

To be honest, The Snow Queen really deserved a second animated movie adaptation from Disney but this time, I wish it would be more faithful to the original story
reply

I got clickbaited by thinking they were gonna show a clip from Goldie and Bear, since that's the version of Red Riding Hood in the thumbnail, but they didn't.
reply

I totally agree with Rumplestiltskin! But also they need to do Snow White and Rose Red. Also The Princess and the Pea or Hansel and Gretal would be awesome!
