Jim Carrey as the Grinch, should of been number #1. I swear to God I can recognize actors almost all the time in heavy make up, but this one, my brain can't catch Jim's Face at all even blinking twice or taking another thought, because it always comes back to saying That's the Grinch and it comes down to seeing little traces of Jim in his bone structure like his jaw and etc.

Robert England is actually credited with looking more like his character without makeup more than any other actors or actresses. So that one you got completely wrong. He got recognized more as Freddy when he was out of costume and went through only minimum chair time when getting into character. The NEW Freddy is completely the opposite.

And you couldn't even pick a Johnny Depp movie, it seems like every movie that he is in, he has some kind of makeup job for the movie no matter if it Sweeney Todd: The Demond Barber of Fleet Street, Tonto, or Barnabas Collins. I wonder if he were to walk the streets without makeup, how many people would recognize him.

I don't think i can ever watch the nightmare on elm street again! Aww gotta love jim as the grinch! Gotta love yet be amazed by movie makeup! ooohh! The fly is another movie i can never watch! What can i say? I get spooked by these movies easily! I love hellboy! Ron perlman was amazing as hellboy!

The apes in The Planet of the Apes (1968) won a special Academy Award for makeup. All well and good until you realize that the Academy overlooked the apes in 2001 A Space Odyessy because they thought they were REAL APES.

And this is why I'll always love practical effects more then digital.
I did wish that Tim Curry's Darkness was on this list, but then again he is kind of recognizable through his make up, as awesome as it is.

Do a tv version. On the tv list needs to be Jesse Rath! He plays Brainiac aka Brainie on Supergirl! He is in so much blue makeup that when he is on screen as his human disguise you can't tell he is Brainiac!

Pretty good list, other than leaving out what I personally believe is the greatest makeup of all time. Gary Oldman's character in Hannibal. To this day I still don't see him beneath the makeup

Other makeup transformations
Jim Carrey: The Grinch
Heath Ledger: Joker
Susan Sarandon: Enchanted as the old hag
Dustin Hoffman as Hook and Tootsie.

Some of these (tho great makeup designs) take unrecognizable loosely. Red skull looks amazing but you can tell it's Hugo Weaving same with Ron Perlman.
reply

The Joker is only on this list because of the Nolan fanboys. All the others are much more impressive, and others more deserving were left off the list.
reply

1. Someone that walks past Englund and doesn't know he was Freddy doesn't deserve to walk past him.
2. Please make a list of all Doug Jones. Thanks!

reply

The only thing that I am happy to see on this list is Charlize Theron from Monster, I mean come on, she looks exactly like Aileen, and Jim Carrey.
reply

Im sorry but. where is Auggie from Wonder? The actor was 9 years old and he looked nothing like himself when the transformation was complete.
reply

Tom cruise- tropic thunder. Had ZERO idea he was in it. Glen Close-Hook. Ralph Finnes-Voldemort. You guys missed very important ones
reply

Ron Perlman or Doug Jones in any Guilermo Del Toro movie. Michael Jackson as the Mayor in Ghosts, and also David Bowie in The Hunger.
reply

Mrs Doubtfire has to be included. I swear to god Robin Williams looked like an actual woman in that film. He had us all fooled.
reply

Damn shame they didn't name the makeup artists as. Especially since Rick Baker's work popped up a lot on this list.
reply

Not even an Honorable Mention for Tim Curry or Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise? Seriously! Come on MsMojo!
