The young sisters were hilarious and more devious in the books.

Personally I found the writing in the movie and the portrayal of the characters better than in the book and If they plan on making a sequel it should be more based on the universe the film created as opposed to strictly following the book. If they make a second film then I would imagine the central Character should be Astrid as her story was most incomplete. Since the title of the second book is called China Rich Girlfriend, I can see a film about Astrid meeting a guy who like her ex husband is a commoner but not a jerk. In keeping with the spirit of it being a romantic comedy I could see the male protagonist meeting Astrid and not knowing who she is. When he does find out he then gets mistaken for a rich guy by the Young family and so is in a tight spot, Peik Lin and Oliver would probably be the only ones who know the truth and would be helping him out.

I was actually really bummed about the fact that they didn't include the Charlie storyline in the movie and they kept the fact that Astrid's husband Michael having an affair, like it was a lot more of a deeper dive into the aspect of their relationship, like how Michael was constantly feeling like he wasn't good enough, and they should've included the part where Charlie actually ended up buying Michael's tech company. idk I guess they only had enough time for enough movie, hopefully, they will get a sequel. but then the Charlie storyline wouldn't make much sense after that

I read the first book in like 6 days and I absoluetly loved it. I am currently reading the second book but slowly because I don't have a third book so I don't want it to end. I was looking for the third book and couldn't find it anywhere because it was sold out. I have more bookstores to go to. I truly hope they have them beacuse I need the third book. Like now. And I am a huge Astrid and Charlie shipper. They are my fave characters so I am very excited for the movie. And I truly hope I will find the third book and read it.

This is one movie where I didnt really mind the changes. I feel that the movie is more suited as a movie and the book as a book. I really enjoyed them both. I also got mixed messages about Amanda in the book. She seemed more interested New York social life than Nick. I don't know why. but with every re-watch, the only person I cannot empathize with is Astrid. Her character just gives me girl-boss or she-e-o vibes, especially with her asserting her family fortune is not the problem. it would have been nice to have an obscenely rich person realize what this can mean, like Collin (Nicolas' bestfriend.

My favorite change was that Oliver actually gets to SAY that he's gay in the movie, rather than it just being implied through context in the books. I get WHY none of the characters would have openly acknowledged Oliver being gay (including Oliver, but it was a good call to add it in for the film. It was a nice touch.

biggest shock to me is probably alistair's character. i read the book after watching the movie, and alistair wasnt really a bad character. he was still crazy with kitty pong but he's one of the few that supported rachel and nick's relationship

I didn't completely understand the Mah-Jong scene in the movie, so I read the book. It wasn't in there, so I read the sequel, and it wasn't in there either. So I read the third book of the trilogy. Guess what? Not in there either!

The acting was so over the top it was annoying. Ken Jeong in particular.
The book never indicated the characters to be so ridiculous.
The movie in its attempt to make it hilarious made it rather cringe worthy.

Honestly if they wanted to make it more accurate they'd have to make it a tv show but, between the cost of shooting in Singapore and the cast themselves they'd need a Game of thrones Budget to pull that off.

I honestly think they should have left the scene with Astrid and Charlie dancing at the wedding in the movie. It kind of gave you a new perspective on the guy who magically pops up in the end credits.

Major downside for me was Nick's proposal, it made the movie really shallow and predictable. It would have been more realistic if Nick didn't propose to Rachel.

The side stories are what makes the whole book series. By book 3 Astrids story is generally so so addictive even more so than Nick and Rachaels
