Top 10 Differences Between To All The Boys I've Loved Before Book & Movie

Those who loved the book also loved the movie! But here are some differences between the two. First of all, the hot tub scene doesnt even take place in the first book in the series, but rather in the sequel, P. S. I Still Love You. And unfortunately for the shippers, Peter actually isnt in the hot tub waiting for Lara Jean, but is there to meet his ex Gen. uh oh! What other differences did you spot? Want to

And the way the movie ended felt like they combined the first two books. They broke up because of Peter still being obsessed with Gen, where in the book they broke up because Peter wasn't telling everyone off about the hot tub scandal. And the video didn't even happen till the next book. At the end, when Lara Jean got back together with Peter, they said something about there relationship not needing a contract. Thats what happens at the end of the second book. Like, the last two pages.

What bothers me the most is how Margot handled the whole thing at the end. Lara Jean did ALL OF WHAT HAPPENED so that Margot wouldn't know her sister loves/ed her ex. And when she eventually found out she shuts out Lara jean as well as told on her to their dad about the jacuzzi picture ( don't even get me started on that matter they butchered it. In the movie she looked like she didn't care about that which made it all pointless. Oh and yeah, josh actually liked Lara Jean back

I've been a year late for this. Meaning I've been missing lots of things already hahah.
All the the top 10 chosen differences from book to movie were all good but there's so much you can enlist to it. It's like 60% to 70% of the movie were all against the books plots and twists.
Anyway gonna finish all of the books within 3 days before the part 2 and 3 will be released next year. Hahha

They left out josh in the movie soo bad and made him seem like a stalker, but in the books Josh was soo extremely relevant and that made them so shippable, like I was actually team Josh for half the book, I also didnt like the actor they chose for the movie lol I imagined Brandon Larracuente lmao, Noah as Peter was pretty spot on, and for LJ I imagined the model on the book
reply

Why can't people realize that you can't put everything from the book in the movie. Every book to movie adaption is bit different. If they put the same things from the book in the movie, it would be boring for people who've read the book. and there isn't that much space to put every single detail that people want in the movie.
reply

You got no. 2 wrong though, Peters reason for agreeing to fake-date her was the same in the movies as in the books. To make Gen jealous as well. Even though Lara G uncovered a deeper reason later, it was still his intent. He was far from over her in the books. They got that part right. they got a lot right actually
reply

The reason why Peter wanted to fake date Lara Jean was much better in the books than in the movie. In the movie he appeared to be shallow and vapid, making an ex jealous is quite unhealthy. But in the book Gen was the one who was still clinging to their relationship, hence he wanted to show her he had moved on.

they cut out the time where LJ and Kavinsky did an errand for his mom, by driving to a location to grab set of chairs i think. mrs. rothchild doesnt have much of an introduction. and nothing was ever mentioned about belleview. and then i got disappointed when they didnt have jamie fox pickle
reply

The reason Gen hated Lara Jean in the books made much more sense than in the movie. Anybody would've been hurt if her best friend kissed the guy they liked and lied to her about it. Kissing because of spin the bottle isn't betrayal or wouldn't spur such strong emotions.
reply

How about Kitty's age difference, in the movie Kitty rode to school with Lara Jean, but in the book, she was at a younger age and got a ride to school. Also, I didn't know that P. S. I love you was the sequel I accidentally gave my mom that book instead of the first one.

There was so much flip flopping between who said or suggested what. Id love to know why they changed so much. In the book Peter suggests things, where in the movie its Lara. Such as the back pocket in the first one, and him wanting the locket back in the second one.
reply

Tbh I wasnt feeling Peter in the books idk his charm just wasnt hitting for me but in the movie Noah rly pulled him off well. But I think Joshs character was a bit destroyed in the movie. In the books he was much sweeter and had a better friendship with Lara Jean.
reply

It's pretty obvious why they left out the Halloween scene, they couldn't get the rights to show those costumes. But you should've also mentioned how Josh dressed as Harry Potter which made Peter jealous since it was basically a couples costume with Lara Jean
reply

I think they had to end the movie the way they did because they werent quite sure how the movie would do and if they would make a sequel, because the hot tub fiasco (the posted video) was in the second book, and the confessing of liking one another.
reply

So I watched the movies and then read the books and was really surprised at how different they were but I liked the books so much more, and Im honestly just happy that someone is acknowledging all those differences. Even if she didnt cover all off them
reply

Is it just me or I badly want them to include the scene where they dress for the halloween then LJ and Josh had accidentally matching costumes and Peter got mad jealousss gahddd havent seen enough of jelous Peter throughout the two films tbh
reply

I feel like in the movie, its not much of a love triangle. Theres barely any interactions between Josh and Lara Jean. Like, they left out the part when Josh and Lara Jean kissed. That was one of the most memorable parts in the book for me.
reply

#1 The Book Ends on a Cliffhanger
YES THAT'S RIGHT. When I finished the book I was like What the- WHAT A CLIFFHANGER. Plus, in the spin the bottle game, it was John Ambrose McClaren who got to kiss Lara Jean, not Peter.

reply

Also the book gives more relevance to John Ambrose Maclaren as he arrives to the school representing China on an ONU activity not at the end of the book. And he was the one LJ kissed playing spin the bottle.
reply

I rewatched the movie and although I love it the first two times (XD) Now I kinda thing that Lara Jean doesn't make a lot of expressions like the acting is always ironic and monotunus unlike the book.
reply

A big difference is that the Video of the kiss in the pool is very important in the book but not in the film
And in the film LJ is mad in peter but in the book he was angry on her

reply

Honestly if i hadn't watched the movie then I would have thought that LJ is dating some jerk who can't get over his ex!
PS: The movie is sooooo much better than the book

reply

In the books Peter wasn't a good Boyfriend.
He was selfish and everytime he made a mistake I give Lara Jean the fault.
I shipped Lara Jean more with Josh and John Ambrose

reply

Am I the only one that was sitting through the Honorable Mentions being like. ok. what was the difference? (as someone that hasn't read the book but I do have plans on it)
reply

I think for me the most disappointing thing was the driving to that sale to pick out chairs and the kitty and Peter's friendship was adorable. Should've added those scenes
reply

And they took out the main conflict between LJ & Peter in hot tube when Gen filmed them and show it around the school. That also carried in the 2nd book as well!
reply

i'm so confused on the pronounciation of Gen's full name. in the book it's different to the movie and i'm confused on the weird change. it's an unusual name, though.
reply

The movie was just all round disappointing and in all honesty, I wish I hadnt watched it because it ruined the story for me. Its barely like the book at all!
reply

LJ's hobbies aren't TOTALLY different, she still likes romance novels and movies in the book. They just left out the baking and scrapbooking in the movie
reply

I heard they tried to put the Halloween scene in the film but they couldnt get copyright clearance to use a Spider-Man costume so they cut it.
