Predictable as always but holy crap the moment you hear that fanfare as Chernabog opens his wings still gives me chills down my spine. Not to mention the moment you hear those opening strings, during the shot of Bald Mountain, so eerie.
The whole sequence is terrific, there's a really interesting history about the piece of music itself (Night on Bald Mountain. But wow, after many years, Fantasia still holds up as my all time favourite movie. For years I couldn't even finish the film because this sequence scared the bejingas out of me lol, beautiful film.

I believe that all of these Disney monsters were rightfully ranked the way they were on this list, including the honorable mentions. Ms. Mojo, please make another list regarding this topic & include all the monsters from The Nightmare Before Christmas, plus another 4 or 5 honorable mentions, as well. Then mash them up into a top 20 list of terrifying Disney monsters, plus another 4 or 5 honorable mentions.

Here's my picks:
Hunting dogs (Bambi)
Carnotaurs (Dinosaur)
The MCP (Tron)
The Heartless (Kingdom Hearts)
The Nobodies (Kingdom Hearts II)
The Unversed (Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep)
Nightmare Dream Eaters (Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance)
The Yeti (Expedition Everest)
The Alien (Alien Encounter)
The Bear (The Fox and the Hound)
The Tyrannosaurus (Fantasia)

The Black Cauldron is totally underrated, and imo thats partly because its an animated movie. A properly made live action version - not necessarily made by Disney and with a few small changes from the original classic - would definitely turn out awesome.

I'm honestly surprised the clown from the Brave Little Toaster wasn't mentioned. What were the animators thinking when they made that scene?
I'm not usually afraid of clowns but that scene still gives me chills

As much I heard of and don't watch many Disney movies, I'll have to admit that if I had a favorite Disney villain, it might be Chernabog, Hades, Maleficent and Scar.

MsMojo Pinocchio (1940) is my number 1 favorite full length animated Disney (1923-) film while Fantasia (1940) is my 2nd favorite full length animated Disney (1923-) film.

I've never seen Hercules. but is the Hydra really a female? I never thought of it as being gendered at all? Not trying to start anything, just genuinely curious.

Ursula's plan to rule the ocean wasn't thwarted. She lost her temper and grew gigantic because her eels Floatsum and Jetsum accidentally got fried by the trident.

Out of all the Disney monsters that gave me the nightmares as a kid. The Leviathan from Disney's 2001 Atlantis: The Lost Empire terrified me the most.
reply

Agree with a lot of these monsters being scary, but where is Scroop from Treasure Planet? He is really creepy, both in appearance and his behaviour.
reply

Where is Charles Muntz? Realistically speaking one very charismatic such as Charles Muntz is terrifying he killed people way before Carl arrived
reply

Of all my favorite and most terrifying Disney monster's is the Leviathan from Disney's 2001 Sci-Fi Atlantis is my Number #1 favorite.
reply

Yeah your right Disney is not for kids in some trem of agreement plus I'm making my own Disney characters with monster like features
reply

Chernabog never scared me, not even when I was little. Hes always been one of my favorite things about Fantasia. :)
reply

Dunno if it counts as a monster but the Organ from Beauty and the Beats: Enchanted Christmas was nightmare inducing!
reply

The Kraken also appears in the sequel to Atlantis, Milos Return but because thats a Toon Disney movie it doesnt count
reply

Around three years old, my brother was inoculated against the horror of Chernabog. He got to calling him the Big Bat.
reply

I disagree with Dragon Maleficent.
Maleficent herself was scary. Dragon Maleficent was PURE AWESOMENESS

reply

Frollo should be here. He may not have a monstrius apppearance, but he is a monster bigger than the kraken.
