Let me first say - Taron Edgerton was absolutely excellent as Elton John. Perfect choice. He should deffo get an oscar nod. However I wasn't too keen on realising it was a musical as I had expected it to be like Bohemian Rhapsody and be a biopic. Hence when all the songs were sung out of chronological context I began to get confused and it really took away from the great acting. Still worth seeing if you're an Elton fan.

It was criminal that Taron didn't receive at least an Oscar nomination as Elton John. Especially when you consider that he received nominations from BAFTA and SAG and won a Golden Globe, as well as a Satellite. He nails Elton's phrasing on the songs, sings them beautifully and perfectly, and also Elton's performance facial expressions, his walk and his run, and all along he's convincingly dramatic and authentically comedic

I got to see Elton on his first trip to the states. He performed in Jacksonville Fl. at a large venue but only about 600 came to see him. He invited anyone who wanted to, to come up on stage. I jumped up so fast that I left my date behind. Being 10 feet away from him was one of those moments I will never forget. Neither will my date. so sorry NOT

Ohhhh I always thought it was a biopic and went to watch both trailer and movie thinking so. I just learnt now with you that it actually is not. Thanks for the information. Otherwise I didn't like Taron Egerton in Kingsmen, I liked the way played in Rocketman waaaaaayyyyy more not to say a lot: )

I'm very much for using gay people to play gay people where possible or trans people for trans people but I think in the case where the actor is portraying a person who is alive. The subject has last say on who portrays them so if Elton is happy with Taron then all is fine
reply

You just saved me from going to see it if the guy who created Bohemian Rhapsody created this there's no point seeing it because it I'll be crap. And the actor they chose to play him whether he is gay or straight is not the issue he's just not a very good actor.

As an old guy, I loved Elton John and his music. I love singing along. Watching this awesome movie put a bit of a spin on the tunes that I didnt realize at the time. Great movie. Ive watched it 3 or 4 times and am in the middle of watching it again on my laptop.

I couldn't be more sick of the constant nitpicking crybabies about anything in the world, never mind about who plays what gender roles! Wah! Wah! Wah! STFU and get over it! There's a whole world out there and it doesn't revolve around your pansy ass feelings!

I saw Rocketman last night! It was my first time learning about Elton john and I can't believe he went through so much in his early career. I was in tears at some moments in the film but all in all I loved the movie and will definitely check out his music!

Just seen it and it is a really great movie. I always had a lot of respect for EJ without being a particularly strong fan and that continues to be true but the movie really did touch me in an emotional way as well as being thoroughly entertaining.

I don't care who he sleeps with in his private life, in his professional life he completely nailed this role. No one could possibly watch this movie and complain about Taron's casting. Brilliant start to finish.
reply

I like how she's saying Tarons name as Edgerton when that's not how its spelled or pronounced I mean that's what I thought at first but when I bought the movie it was spelled Egerton on the title
reply

Omfg I love this movie so much. The cast is absolutely AMAZING! Tarons voice is BEAUTIFUL and He NAILED all of the songs. The film better get an Oscar nomination because it deserves one!
reply

This was one of the best pictures I've seen this year. Elton and I have crossed paths briefly over the last 45 years and I thought the recreation of the 60s, 70s and 80s was spot on.
reply

Gay actors shouldnt always play gay characters in fact two iconic straight TV characters Barney Stinson and Sheldon Cooper were played by gay actors Neil Patrick Harris and Jim Parsons
reply

Why not even a mention of Long John Baldry, the John part of his name and the person Someone Saved My Life Tonight is written about (basically stopping Elton from killing himself)
reply

I think Rocket Man would have been more enjoyable as a true bio pic than a musical. Thats what made Bohemian Rhapsody so good: It was a biopic with and about music, not a musical.
reply

Great, thanks for ruining it for me, now i don't want to see it, cause i thought it was a true story about Elton Jon's life. Now I'm waiting for the movie to come on demand
reply

I hate that people were so butt hurt because a straight actor played Elton- Elton has said many times that he loves tarons performance- We do not argue with Elton
reply

If youre gonna talk about a person can you please pronounce their last name correctly? Its hard to be creditable when you dont even know who youre talking about.
reply

It should have been a biopic. I enjoyed bohemian rhapsody so much that I wanted something like that for Elton John. Disappointed that it was a weird musical
reply

This is such a brilliant film even better than Bo Rhap. All the actors perfectly cast. Have watched it many times now and get more out of it.
reply

People get triggered that a straight man plays a gay man but are ok that women play little kids in cartoons like bruh thats hypocritical.
reply

Becasue of this movie I really got into watching Traon Edgerton & Richard Maddon films. I really really hope Traon wins the GG & Oscar!
reply

Was such a great movie. Be cool they could do a movies on mamas and papas, journey, Styx, Janis Joplin, the monkees, the eagles, abba
reply

Taron Egerton was the Cinderella shoe on the perfect/right actor. No one else could have done this movie besides Elton John himself.
reply

I am a huge Elton fan. Did not like how this film was done. Not what I was hoping for just another typical Hollywood movie run amuck.
reply

His performance as Johnny singing I'm Still Standing was Taron Egerton's audition for Rocketman! I can't confirm nor deny that.
reply

A standard biopic would be an injustice to Elton Johns life and style. A crazy, over the top fantasy is exactly what he deserves.
reply

I bet Bryce didnt wanna be so rude to the people she was in the movie, but she pulled such a believable act, it was awesome: O
