I can get behind a bunch of these, like best playwright or best ensemble. That said, I'm not sure how logistically possible some of these suggestions are. For example, as someone who has worked in stage management, I know how hard those folks work. Trust me, I KNOW. I'm also not sure how someone could even go about judging the work of stage managers. As far as a replacement category goes, did you know there was discussion of instituting a replacement category a number of years ago, but the idea was scrapped? Personally, I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of such a category, because I agree that some replacements outshine their predecessors. That said, deciding who's elegable and getting all the Tony nominees & voters to actually go see said performances (keep in mind this could mean seeing the same show multiple times in the same year, depending on what eligibility requirements decided upon) sounds like a logistical nightmare.

This had so many clips of shows that I wish I had seen with the casts in these clips. I think the Tonys should absolutely have these additional categories, but it doesn't even have time for one or both of the special Tonys, which I would like to see. To make more time, I'd love to see a rule that winners can only mention two people. Most speeches are boring and mentions of every single person the winner has ever met are the worst. They take away from the thrill of the the experience of watching the Tonys. I'd contemplate giving up the few speeches that are jewels to make time for more categories.

Best production number - these pull out all the stop moments that get every cast member in stage, every special effect in play and ever audience member on stage.
Numbers like One Day More, One Day in Emerald City, Anything Goes, La Vi Bohem, Somethings Missing or other songs that are iconic for how all those pieces fit together & deliver on a shows plot and themes.
If you check out the Freddy Awards (for high school musicals out of the Lehigh Valley in PA/NJ) & the documentary about it Most Valuable Player, youll see how some of these awards work out.

Pretty much all of these are redundant or just gimmicks like best ensemble or best song. this is the Tonys, not broadway. com. Although best playwright should definitely come back, and I feel like replacements should be able to be eligible for the acting awards since revivals are!

After Reba was on AGYG, they actually created the replacement award, it was on the docket for a few years and no one was worthy of the award in the judges eyes. So, the discontinued it. I truly think they should have given Reba a Tony for her performance. Funny thing is they asked her to be the original Annie and she said no, Im not a broadway star. And when she took over the role, kinda reluctantly, she cant wait to get back again.

As a stage manager id like to thank Ms Mojo for the acknowledgement. But I can assure you that for a stage manager there can be no better award than watching a cast and crew of people that you've worked with for months sometimes longer take a bow to a standing ovation. We are the show and when they succeed so do we.

Most of these feel really unnecessary or they are covered under something else. Best replacement? How do you decide that? Sure they can be great but that is there job to do their best possible. Idk feels like a fan favorite award not a Tony award.
Makeup/hair and playwright were the only two I really agreed with.

I think Best Replacement would be difficult to judge when deciding the terms of eligibility, not to mention the sheer number of replacement actors in all of the shows in a Broadway season. However, Best Ensemble totally deserves to exist, and while not entirely necessary, I think Best Song would be a fun addition.

many people, besides elphaba and i think the lion king do their own makeup. its hard for people to win best makeup when a lot of the times, people do their own makeup. for example, mandy gonzalez in hamilton and taylor louderman in mean girls both do their own makeup. same with Christy Altomare in anastasia

Out of these I would pick best song, best ensemble, and something they didn't include but totally should Best Swings! I swear swings have to know at least three different parts at all times and must be ready to step into any character. They work so hard but are never recognized!

they should done the replacement category after fantasia's performance in the color purple. She still hailed as the best renedition of Celie by multiple Broadway critics and fans. They even invited her to perform i'm here at the tony awards bc she was ineligible for a nomination

I agree with Pauly Walnuts below. Especially no separate categories for lyric and music. They are often the same person and if it is a collaboration they are a team. No break out star. The Tony's are barely watched now. Most of the categories are rewarded off camera.

These are all great ideas.
I think I'm probably the only person who doesn't like Jessie Mueller's spitting, choking sounding performance in Waitress. Really prefer when Sara Bareilles took over. Way better.

I love Stage Manager and Ensemble but I think replacement can be tricky bc the Tonts are supposed to award the current season and replacement would make off season shows eligible, and cult musicals would be nominated over and over as long as they stayed open.

I think a Best Song category might make it more common to have one great song amid a mediocre score so I'm not sure about that, but I do agree that Me and the Sky deserved recognition. (Though the entire Come From Away score deserved a Tony)

I especially agree with the best playwright. The fact the playwright and the producer shares the Best Play award is ridiculous. And sometimes the production can lift up a bad script. Or a bad production can ruin a great script

Stage managers are the backbone of any production. But it was actually said in the video, how does one pick just one thats above the others? They all have the same duties, and all the work, as said in the video, is invisible.

I think they should have a Best Long-Running Show category, mainly because there are some replacement casts in older musicals that dont get enough recognition (e. g. anyone whos played Evan in DEH since Ben Platt)

My state does a high school theater awards kind of like the Tony Awards called the Halos. Pretty much all of the categories in the video are categories that the Halos covers, and I completely agree with them.

i DEFINITELY agree with best Ensemble! But I also feel like there should be one for not american/english Musical, because there are so many amazing shows out in the world that deserve much more attention.

Emma Stone eventually replaced Michelle Williams but the original Sally Bowles in the Revival was Natasha Richardson, who I feel hasn't been matched.

The only ones I really agree with are Best Hair/Makeup, Breakthrough Performance, and Ensemble. Everything else seems extremely unnecessary or redundant.
