Something I never understood is how in the first season Damon was able to control Caroline from a really big distance while he was looked up in a cell. How did he do that? It was the only time something like this happened. Everytime a vampire compelled someone he had to be eye to eye with that person. Sure Damon had already compelled Caroline before but when vampires give a new order they have to compell that same person again. They cant just randomly control everyone they have ever compelled.

Idk if silas not being really known about was a plot hole. It happened a pong while before the originals and they didnt seem to really be historians who would have looked into it. Ive always assumed ester wrote the spell based off of tweeked version of Silas's spell.
With that said, the really big plot hole is why all non evolved adults werent absolutele freaked by two ancient vampires date and stalk the child look alike of a woman who psychologically manipulated them.

Superfans [like myself] can explain away every single one of these, except the part about Stefan not being able to save two people from the water. Thats the one thing I do agree with. But the rest? You just dont understand the show if you truly think that the rest of these are actual plot holes. There is an explanation for literally every other itemized situation in this list.

In my opinion and angry vampire being stronger doesnt make sense because if you think about it, the vampirism spell hints is everything about the person, the physical abilities and emotion and the chemicals in their body including the adrenaline. When we have adrenaline rush we get naturally stronger, so if thats heightened by vampirism, that makes sense.

You're all talking about measly potholes but why is no one talking about the fact that they are all ghost bodies!
Most of them came back from the other side after leaving their physical bodies to rot which technically makes them souls but they can die again? Do they keep on shredding souls within souls?
Thats the most idiotic pothole!

Something else I noticed is how was Bonnie able to break the spell conecting her life with Elenas? Kai specifically said that if someone tries to figure out a way around it and uses magic she and Elena will both die. Why did she even risk it? She should have been too afraid to even try considering how mutch she gave up to save Elena over and over again.

Not all of them are plot holes. The originals are described as the world's first vampires. Not immortals. Silas was then introduced as the world's first immortal because even though he's immortal, he isn't a vampire.
But the inconsistency with the age and strength is irritating. Being older never meant anything unless you're an original

I think you need to watch TVD again coz in pt no. 5, where you mentioned Katherine not going to the other side, is because she went to hell. If you closely watch, when the other side collapsed, all the vampires who were bad enough were sent to hell. So that is where Katherine also went. This can clearly be seen in the last season.

The biggest plothole is the fact that Silaa and Amara are essentially Stefan and Elana's ancestors (they are their dobbelgangers) but neither Silas nor Amara ever had any children seeing as they were trapped/in a sleepy/coma state for thousands of years.
So technically, Stefan and Elana and Katherine shouldn't even be alive

Silas was just an immortal witch not a vampire which I glad they had done that. That answer your question the actress Sarah Canning who plays Jenna probably didn't want to return to the series to reprise her role like like the other actors did as ghost. She probably was way too busy with many projects.

Biggest plot hole was the cure, first u needed to drain the person with the cure and then all u needed was a syringe ful of their blood and thats the cure, it made no sense what if the person gets in an accident and loses blood is the cure gone now? what if u cut yourself? it just didnt make sense.

one thing I noticed is that when Bonnie came back from 1944, she called Jeremy, and nothing happened. Even when Jeremy said goodbye to Elena in S6, he never showed remorse or sadness or not knowing how he was gonna get through life without her. I never understood that storyline.

For me the most baffling thing is when Alaric stabbed himself and asked Elena to kill him because she was a doppelganger so he would come back since she's supernatural.
AND YET she could be compelled in season 1? i thought vampires cant compel supernatural beings?

Another one that always bugged me was if Damon could get into Elena's head, why didn't he share his memories of them after she decided she wanted her's back but couldn't after Alaric was no longer a vampire? I know it's just a TV show, but come on, lol.

The biggest plot hole is that Bonnie created her own dimension which she put Enzo in which means he should be able to come back to life WHENEVER SHE PLEASES. Cade could control his dimension(hell) and he could put people in and out whener he so pleases

I think Julie made one of them Bennett witches to cast a spell on everyone who watches TVD. Why is this show so addictive. Ive been scrolling through the comments for a while now and i feel at ease. Ive been obsessed with this show for years now.

There is this powerful witch in a bar on S3 maybe on the Klaus & Stefan ripper era.
She has been living for more than a 100 years but did not age at all. It is shown that she is powerful. But then she get killed by Katherine (maybe) easily.

You forgot about the Witches can't be vampires plot hole. They turned Bonnie's mom to a vampire so she can't be a witch, only to have the Salvatore brother's mother's pals be witches turned vampires and still have their witchy powers.

Hope being a trybrid is one of the biggest holes for me, because theres no sense hope to be a vampire, since vampires cant reproduce and, so, she dont have this gene (Klaus was a hybrid because he became a vampire by a spell.

Just restarted the Show at season 2 and when Stefan went down the well (spring) to get the moonstone, he was affected by all the verveine. Elena gave him her blood, but it didn't affect ripper Stefan at all somehow?

The cure isnt a plotholes. Elena did rapidly age once they drained the cure out of her. The thing is, she was only a vampire for roughly a year - year and a half, so thats the time she lost from her natural lifetime.

to me one of the biggest plot holes is the fact that Elena descends from Katherine, but Katherine's daughter never mentioned to be pregnant and continue the bloodline, so how the hell is Isobel and Elena related to her?

There was no need to drag this show more than 5 season if most. Also, we were fine the original vampires and the Katherine plot. Some supernatural creatures were unnecessary. That's why I never finished the series.

Seriously, both times when Elena was drowning, Stefan could have saved both people. Just pull the door and seat belt off for the one who is conscious and can swim out and then grab the unconscious one yourself

I wouldnt label the whole immortal-thing as a plothole. I think, that the mother of klaus etc. has used this spell that was created in another part of the world and it came out better/not alike somehow
