I don't understand why Dean gets all this hate. Rewatching the series I understand on how Dean reacted alot in the situation. It seems like everyone treats these teenagers as if they are adults when in reality they are just kids. I also don't understand the hate towards him when he commented on the donna show. Some women prefer staying at home and being a house wife. I believe rory may of overracted abit. Dean wanting to end things because of Harvard isn't him being controlling. Considering how their relationship was at the time it was gonna end over the phone. So it would of been better to just break up in person than to have rory cheat, realize she doesn't want dean anymore, call and dump him in a cold phone call. The whole stalking isn't stalking. He is a quiet and observant kid. I was the kid that would observe people in school and know a lot about them without even talking to them. That isn't stalking. The whole jealous thing plays alot into teen behavior. As a teen he is already going through changes not to mention taking care of a little sister that was never shown on screen. He reacted big to make up for the insecure feeling that he had when Rory was visibly hanging around other boys. Yes I understand the whole Lindsey situation and how it was bad. But, didn't we all forget rory has been doing the cheating thing long before dean ever done it. Yet, when a side character does something the main character does. the audience hates the side character for it and not the main character. In the argument of he would never let her study: thats all she'd ever do. study. She spent more time with her books and jess than she ever did with Dean. The break up with rory was well deserved on rory's end. She had spent days and even weeks talking about Jess all the time. Jess became her main focus and it was clearly starting to annoy Dean. Put it this way; imagine your partner gawking about someone else all the time and never stopping. Wouldn't you at some point say enough is enough?

Geez! Dean never started the fights, it was always the others because they had crushes on Rory. Tristan pushed Dean and still he stopped the fight and walked away. Dean tried to break up a fight between Jess and Chuck Presby, and Jess swung at him. Even then Dean did not retaliate. Dean couldn't take the idea of Rory having to kiss Tristan beacuse, hello, human. Sure the fact that he wanted to crash the rehearsal was not going to help, but it would have made him a saint to be peachy with the situation given that Tristan was constantly taunting him.
Dean yelled at Rory when he felt that she lied to him about wanting to stay home alone and finding Jess there when he came. It's never OK to yell, still I think we can understand his anger. Jess had done nothing but get in their way, stealing Rory for the picnic, taunting Dean any way he could, and actually trying to hit him. Can we please think how Rory would have handled the situation if she constantly had idiot girls tormenting her just because they wanted to steal Dean from her? She never had to worry about another girl while she was with Dean. Even when she left Dean for Jess, she still felt bad when she realized Dean was dating someone else. She wasn't constantly being tested like Dean was.
People say Dean didn't respect her wish to be alone, and let's face it, it's hard to think your girlfriend would rather be alone than with you. Truth is she was already loosing interest in him and he could feel it. He went over but was clear he only wanted to say hi, give her some ice cream and leave. The whole calling 14 times wasn't every day, it was when she was most distant and he was getting desperate. They were 16/17 teenagers so this isn't surprising, they aren't mature and don't have the experience it takes to communicate emotions in a healthy way. We see that in both Dean and Rory. He makes mistakes but usually figures out pretty soon that he was wrong and apologizes.

Ok but was Dean really the worst? We always picture Jess and Rory as young and careless and show signs of jealousy and obsession as acceptable because of their age but when it comes to Dean everyone attacks him! Yes, he was overprotective but he had a right to be when Rory was a very passive girlfriend and started flirting and kissing basically cheating on Dean with other boys whilst dating Dean! I can understand his outburst in the gym! He was hurt and fed up that Rory paid more attention to Jess and Shane specifically Jess that her own boyfriend however he didnt need to break up with her in front of everyone! This had been a build-up of season 2 so I get that he had had enough/felt jealous of the feelings Rory had for Jess vice versa! Rory shouldve been upfront with him and save him the pain! IN THE SAME NIGHT, she was making plans with Jess to date! Rory had always put Harvard first from the minute they met so it shouldve never been a surprise to him that Harvard was first in most situations! Regardless, it always felt like he was always second best to Rory! He did all he could to win her heart sometimes in a toxic manner but he was young and we dont know how experienced he was, Rory couldve well been his first girlfriend

Dean was a great boyfriend in the beginning but he got worse. Very jealous and no space and all but not so sure I agree with all that. I think it's a little hard on him.
I felt bad for Lindsay too but I never liked her. We all knew from the start that marrying eachother was a mistake Lindsay and her mother was very bossy.
If you watched the episode after Lorelai cought Rory and Dean together, Rory calls Dean on his phone after the fight with Lorelai and not even half a tone later, Lindsay picked up. Fast like lightning. That's controlling. Lindsay and her mom were in control of her and Deans life and Dean apparantely had no say in it. He was just to nice to say something, kept his feelings inside and I think when he started the affair with Rory he knew he was wrong but he had anger towards Lindsay at the same time and it made him turn into a jerk to her. This is no excuse for Dean cheating on her but these are tricky circumstances.

Wellthis video is absolutely insane. Just watched the 1st season (lots of moments are here from this season) and its obvious Dean is a lovely teenage boy, who is so caring and really careful (I mean Gilmore girls are crazy in some point) Hes a good listener, hes supportive and protective. Just a decent young guy, who loves a girl. And dont forget, hes a teenager. And in this video youre demonizing him, trying to find disadvantages in his character out of the thin air. I think Rory made something that went the wrong way later, so Dean was cracked. Gilmore girls they have big issues, psychological ones. Its soo hard to communicate with them, to trust them. Mum and daughter, they sometimes betray each other! So, its just a show, a satire really, with lots of silly situations. And youre being serious to invent the story in the video out of the context. Thats unprofessional

Tbh being jealous of Tristan was completely justified and falling for Tristan's baiting is understandable considering Dean was a 16 year old boy at the time. Tristan provoked Dean on purpose every time he saw him. He's done a LOT of things worthy of a Dean sucks list, but being jealous of Tristan BARELY scratches the surface. Tbh I'd replace that one with talking to Lorelai about the concerns he has over their relationship before talking to Rory. His relationship with Lorelai was SUPER weird and way too personal, and my wife and sisters agree. He'd bring up Jess and college and everything else with Rory's MOTHER before ever speaking to her about it and she was left guessing why he was upset about something because he'd already talked about it with probably the worst person you could talk about your relationship with, your girlfriend's mother

No, Dean is the best.
The Donna Reed thing is nothing. Woke means it gets to be a woman's choice to do those things and he points out that she may like/want to do that, so definitely wrong on your part.
Did he have a reason to be insecure? YESSSSS! Do your homework better.
Stalker? No, you look when you're interested and he never just l constantly tried to go unnoticed. He tended to greet her as often as possible.
Dean absolutely had a right to be jealous when it came to Tristan/Jess. Both of these guys were nothing but aholes and terrible to Rory. Rory was not good at advocating for her boyfriend, ironic to her supposedly being a good debater?
Dean had every right to break up with her the way he did. She treated her best boyfriend like absolute trash.
I'll give you one and only one, the affair was bad.

that were not times he was the worst he was literally a teenager that is normal to act like that wanting to spend time with his gf even if she has to study and being upset about not reciprocating his feelings I mean if you are in a relationship and your partner doesn't love you is weird for me and his jealousy towards tristan was justified as he was going to be rory's love interest if he didn't land the role in one tree hill when a boy is making advances on your girlfriend it is totally normal to be jealous it is human and him stating that it is nice to have a home cooked meal when you get home is also normal if a girl said the same comment no one would be all over it he isn't saying that his wife should be home and not working? the only part i agree is that he was really bad to lindsay and his affair is like a low point

Dean is really controlling. He gets all butt hurt when he notices that Rory isn't wearing the bracelet he made her, as though she should have to wear it all the time and that there is some problem with her not wearing it. And then when he flips out over the basket auction. I think some of his actions are justified, especially considering they are teenagers, but a lot of their fights are because of how jealous, clingy, and controlling he is. Rory isn't perfect for sure and treats him like dirt at times, but I really don't like Dean.

Dean might have been kinda clingy but he was an amazing boyfriend! He only got bad when he started to feel Rory pull away from him, she became a shitty girlfriend to him when she continued to see Jess as a friend despite having feelings for him, despite Jess making his intentions very clear, despite Dean communicating how Jess made him feel, until eventually he had enough and broke up with her. After they broke up he got toxic for a few months, he was hurting and angry; hurt people hurt people.

Cut Dean some slack, I think most of the things pointed out here were totally reasonable. And who knows Rory the best? Lorelai, and she herself said to Dean that he is a great boyfriend to Rory. Rory herself admitted the same at the final episode of this series. They were never on the same page because Dean had always loved Rory way more than she did for him. The only thing Dean should have done is to not to get back together with her after the first breakup.

I am not saying Rory is the best girlfriend in the world, and I am not saying that all of Dean moments were entirely his fault but Dean has had his terrible moments like getting mad at Rory for not being ready to say I love you, and getting upset when she wants to do more volunteering for Harvard, he always gets extremely mad and doesn't let Rory fully explain herself and his instant jealousy

The only thing that could be on this list is maybe breaking up for not saying I love you and breaking up in front of Logan and the boys but relationships arent perfect so thats dumb to even put those. Other than that Dean was a great boyfriend. I like how they forgot to mention he called her 14 times because she was falling for Jess and he didnt know what to do. This list is ridiculous.

So majority of the times he was the worst was when he was trying to restore his relationship with Rory, you know Rory cheating and blatantly showing feelings for another guy isn't a problem at all that could possibly cause him to be more clingy or feel like she doesn't want him anymore. Yall are some idiots fr, Rory was the problem and always has been in this situation.

I hated when Dean compared his relationship with Rory to Luke and Lorelai. Since when does he get to weigh in about his ex-girlfriends moms relationship?
Luke didnt cheat on his wife. And Luke and Lorelai are financially independent adults who share a long history, not idiot teenagers that rushed into a relationship. The entire town knows they are perfect for each other.

Of those who forget that in the first and second season Dean was just a young man, everything he did and how he acted was very adolescent because he was one. He was a boy in love with her and she felt all wrong because she already liked Jess, otherwise she would have been happy that he would call her at all times and go to her house like at the beginning of the season.

Im sorry but you have blown this way out of proportion most of these are Rorys fault and Dean is actually a good person but everyone just tries to find the worst in him and I do agree the way he acted about Jess was accurate because Jess is just one of those boys who thinks that they are so cool so they can do whatever they want and its so annoyingggg!

dean seems like the type who would need a woman to take care of him but not want to keep up his end of the bargain. he discouraged her, instead of focusing on making himself a good provider to even to persuade her that he can be a good quality partner as well. typical self centered abusive looser. i got a bad read on him on the first episode.

I felt Dean started out as great but his character took a downturn when Jess came around. It seemed like the writers wanted her with Jess more than Dean so they had to dumb Dean down to make Jess seem more compatible with Rory. Also, amp up Deans flaws too. Bc Jess flaws were very apparent. Maybe Im wrong but it just felt that way to me.

About the after I was with Rory not that Im picking sides Deans wife Lindsey should have encourage him go to college and not working constantly and to be completely honest she was a little selfish and stubborn I get it she was trying to be a good wife but that doesnt mean she just say something to get him on the right path

The underlying class treatment is what bothers me. They dumb him down in a way to make Rory to good for him. They also dont acknowledge that he is a boy a 15/16 teen boy, who isnt toxic just emotional. Its a very complex topic and I think the audience has a lot of influence in the way he is treated.

How is Dean not woke for defending a woman's right to choose whether she wants to be a stay at home wife? He wasn't saying that should be all women or that's a woman's place. I can't stand Dean on the whole, but this is the one to thing i feel was really blown out of proportion.

Dean was very possessive & clingy. Everytime he went to a party he started a fight with a guy over Rory. At some point it felt like Lorelai was more in love with him than Rory. Lorelai kept trying to push dean & Rory together toward the end of their relationship

I don't think his reaction to the TV show was all that bad? Yes he was wrong for not recognising women's oppression in the 50s but him liking the idea of a wife making dinner for her husband because that's what his parents did really isn't that bad to me idk

Dean was completely fine, Rory was constantly throwing herself at jess not only that the very first time he said i love you she simply stayed quiet. Rory was horrible to Dean and realised what she had lost and we see this in the year of the life.
