Honorable Mention:
Misrepresentation and Controversial Creative Decisions
-During the Ember Island Play, it went out of it's way to get everything wrong about how the characters are portrayed. From flanderizing Sokka and Katara into one-dimensional archetypes to not even getting Aang and Toph's gender right, Team Avatar was understandably displeased with how the story got a lot things wrong. Although, when you really think about it, this episode may have actually predicted the outcome of The Last Airbender movie, it all adds up, being unfaithful to the characters with the casting and personalities and so forth. Sadly, this isn't going away anytime soon. Hollywood doesn't seem to care when adapting certain IPs into film, be it controversial creative decisions around the casting, the portrayals, the story, the lore itself, by not doing any of these criteria justice, you show just how much you don't respect what's already perfect! Because maybe the original source material is far more meaningful than some people give it credit for.

For me, Zuko was the most victimized character on the show. The rest may have suffered crazy tragic events but they didnt suffer as much as Zuko did.
- He was mistreated by his sister and father even got scarred and banished by his dad at age 13. Thats the worse thing that can happen to a kid his age. They even tried to kill him numerous times
- He lost his mum
- He even got rejected by people he saved from thugs because they saw hes from the fire nation. Those people were just a bunch of ungrateful idiots. If he wanted to attack them, he would have done so the moment he entered their village but instead he saved them from thugs who were bullying them
- He got rejected by team avatar without them considering his tragic backstory
Good thing the guy got redemption and finally became fire lord and his maniac dad and sister got what they deserved. Plus he had a good and supportive uncle and a loving mom. That helped him out too

I've always seen many comments(not talking about this comment section) sayin azula's state can't be justified because it was she didn't chose to be good. But here in this video it clearly say that it's very important seek help when you're in emotional trauma. Zuto received help but azula didn't. Both of them were in same state(zuko was in worse state tho) but only one received help. That's why he ended being good and she ended being crazy.
Both of them are the same person treated differently. I think what atla saying is how a person's future can change by the way they were treaded.

The pregnant woman was such a sad refugee tale up until the end of the series. First they couldn't get to Ba Sing Se at all, then they have to go through such danger to get there (and have to give birth while doing so, then they get there and it's under attack, then have a break from the trauma as the city functions as if the war doesn't exist, only to lose hope again when Azula and the fire nation take over.

I may or may not have been paying attention but did they mention the brainwashing camps, (yes I did watch xiran jay zhao) and the Chinese government would take people and put them into horrifying conditions, and brainwashing is a thing, its horrifying how badly their treated

3: 50 Honestly Zuko's situation is understandable. It would be one thing if he were just a fire nation citizen, but he openly said he was the fire prince. I don't think anyone would be thrilled to see him considering what his family has done to the entire world.

It surprises me every time I watch videos like this about Avatar. I mean, I've known for years that this is a fantastic show and that it is way more than just a children's show. But how this show manages to address so many issues in just 3 seasons is just amazing.

Ok 1, it wasn't because katara was a girl that he just wouldn't teach her its because those were the rules/culture they had, 2 if she wasn't the gandaugter of the girl that dude loved they would have kept that culture/rules you can't blame the guy that much
reply

Avatar the last airbender is the best show ever because it tackles serious issues in every episode it's also funny has great characters great character development s great storyline and is one of the most culturally accurate shows ever
reply

About the part of prejudice, I think the villagers were less upset about katara being a waterbender and more upset about the fact that she impersonated their goddess, which can be very offensive
reply

Also the way The Guru episode goes into detail about the 7 chakras Aang has to unlock really intrigued me as a child in a great way and now im still baffled by how the information is still relevant
reply

I know theyre two completely different shows but Call The Midwife and ATLA are two shows I can watch over and over again. I think Sister Monica-Joan and Uncle Iroh would get along.

cabbage man took his ultimate revenge at the appa's lost days episode (also all of these are really good episodes and this show is the best i have watched yet)

04: 16 Number seven hits hard especially seen from March 2022
The show will probably stay be significant for a long time for all of the reasons given here.

Iroh taught me the correct order of the four seasons. I always remember his song:
Winter, spring, summer and fall
Winter, spring, summer and fall

I could relate to Toph. I'm not blind, but I do have autism. I have a grandmother and father who felt that I'm not capable of the things I want to do.

MovieFlame said Avatar is not a kid's show.
He was right; Avatar is for kids AND adults.
The best TV shows appeal to people of all ages.

And I've certainly never had to use it to take a life -Aang after destroying countless airships and causing ships to sink killing everyone onboard.
reply

Something I will forever give Avatar credit for, it's paving the way for Kid's shows that trust that kids can handle heavier concepts.
reply

Honestly imo I think childhood trauma should be No. 1. Wed probably have better people in the world if so many problems didnt start at home
reply

Propaganda, no war? genocide? Wow, history repeats over and over again. Are we humans destined to allow history to repeat again and again?
reply

This show actually shaped my current mindset. I watched it as a 13 year old (I'm 31 now. It basically helped shaped my mind growing up.

We just need to be able to tell between kids cartoon and reality - in war people die, and you will be killed if you don't kill!

The Air Nomads love for you has not left this world, it is still inside of your heart, and is reborn as new love. - Guru Pathik.
reply

Zaheer was right. People in authority can leave the world scarred and hurt. Sozin wiped out the air nomads. It wasn't fair.
reply

The life lesson no one got from Avatar: The Last Airbender: Take what you think you know, and turn it upside-down.
reply

Ba Sing Se episode always gives me creepy communism vibes. I personally don't remember, but my parents do
reply

I agree, she is the greatest earthbender in the world & as she says don't forget dunderheada, cool line
reply
