Golden Girls started these storylines and they forgot all about them. Our countdown includes where's Mr. Mitsumo, what happened to Dorothy's illness, was Sophia a polygamist, and more! Which Golden Girls storyline do YOU want resolved?

I guess it was just the nature of television back then. Most episodes were self-contained and whether anything about it (including any relative of main characters) will ever show up again was anybody's guess. Binge-watching or watching episodes on demand wasn't a thing yet either, so they probably didn't assume too many of the audience would remember thigns either. I assume in the case of Michael's baby they just wanted a divorce storyline without complicating it by the presence of a child (let alone that they probably didn't want to portray Dorothy's son as indifferent to/irresponsible towards his child, since that would likely have made Dorothy far too angry, due to Stan, and would have consumed the whole episode)
Similar to the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome episode, they also forgot about Blanche's pacemaker. In the episode they talk about having to get rid of the microwave because it could cause problems for Blanche, but in later episodes and seasons all four of the girls, including Blanche are frequently seen using the microwave.

Charles Levin (Coco) wasnt gay, in real life, but he had played other roles of gay people.
The production had to let him go when they realized that, being an Italian character, Sofia was going to be the cook. There was no room for two cooks, and no place at the kitchen table, so Rue McClanahan said years after the show was over.
Charles Levin died horridly!
On July 8, 2019, Charles Levin's son reported to the police that Levin was missing, and had not been heard from since June 28. At the time, Levin lived in Grants Pass, Oregon. Levin's car was found on July 12 on a remote road northeast of Selma, Oregon. The body of his dog, Boo Bear, was found inside. Levin's body was found a day later. On November 8, 2019, authorities confirmed Levin's cause of death to be accidental. His car became stuck where it was later found, on an unmaintained wilderness road. After trying to free it, it appeared he left the car in search of help and fell to his death down a 30-foot (9 m) embankment. He was 70 years old.

Yeah, the forgotten grandchild was completely strange. I mean the only reason Michael was apparently marrying the older' black woman was because she was pregnant. Then, no one ever mentions the child again when they split up. What is even stranger is that Michael should actually be the same age as the older woman. I believe they said that Lorraine was 43, which seems shocking to Dorothy, but she got pregnant with Michael when she was 18, then was married for 38 years, then there were 2 years post divorce prior to this show starting in season one. So, in actuality, Michael should have been 40 years old when Golden Girls premiered. This episode was in season 3, so Michael is the one who should be 43 years old. I always thought it was odd that they tried to pass Michael off as a kid in his 20's. I mean, Sophia incessantly brings up the fact that Dorothy HAD to get married because Stan knocked her up. How could he possibly be 24?

TGG was loaded with inconsistencies such as: 1. In the pilot episode, Dorothy, and Sophia are from Queens, then suddenly, they're from Brooklyn. 2. Rose talks about her days at college, then it's revealed she never graduated from HS. In one episode, Big Daddy gets married, but when he dies, only Blanche, and Virginia are at the house, no sign of the new wife, Clayton, or Charmaine. 4. Dorthy's senior prom, some episodes she went, and other episodes she didn't. How do you go, and not go to your senior prom at the same time? And another thing that annoys me is how is it that with 7 seasons of episodes, there never did one featuring Rose's husband, Charlie, or Dorothy's brother Phil? But despite it all, TGG was, is, and always will be awesome!

I always wondered about Hal Linden. She should have married him. They had more in common. Only one of Blanches kids were seen which was Rebecca and she wasn't the same person twice. They also changed the Kate and Dennis from the first season. I liked them better. The men that they met on vacation but one of them had a recurring role as a different person. The character Patrick Vaughn and Eduardo the hairdresser. What ever happened to Laszlo. He didnt even come back for a visit. Sven never returned to visit cousin Rose and Blanches nephew David never revisited.

What never made sense to me was the episode Stan Takes a Wife where Stan supposedly married Catherine played by Elinor Donahue. In the last scene, Dorothy was walking with Catherine from the hotel bar to the wedding. Then, two seasons later, there was a 2-part episode There Goes the Bride where Dorothy and Stan were about to remarry but she called it off. What happened to Stan and Catherine's marriage and how would it have been possible for Stan to get married when he was already married?

Dear MsMojo
Do a Top 20 Golden Girls Continuity Issue. there are so many you could probably do two top 20 lists. I'll help get you started: Rose faints when she's told by Blanche that she's pregnant but then in a later episode asks Dorothy what it's like to faint as she's never fainted and then there's the issue with Dorothy's son's age. he goes from being in his 30s to being 23 when he's to marry Lorraine. love this show and all it's continuity issues!

There were SO many anachronisms in the characters' ages, number of children, length of time being widowed, etc. The four of them were such dynamic characteristics, there wasn't enough time to keep all those other characters around. That's part of the show's charm. We constantly meet new and interesting people. Stan is the only regularly recurring character. Whatever they did, the show turned out perfectly. It is my favourite of all time.

It doesnt matter if, from one episode to the next, there was some unlikely continuity. In a 20 mn episode, only the lines count, not likelihood. They had to be as funny as possible, equally serving every four main character. And the writers team (about twelve of them, if not Susan Harris herself, was so damned good at producing lines that hit the mark So the actresses said, later.
Who cares about the rest of it?

reply

Coco wasn't needed. Most of these are rather ridiculous considering that the show should be celebrated and not criticized for simply having the guts to tackle issues like addiction, immigration, HIV/Aids, and the healthcare system. These are still issues that most shows avoid in our current time so the continuity errors should be forgiven just for the fact that a 1980s sitcom took on the topic at all.
reply

Earlier in the show Blanche had a fear of flying. Later it was Dorothy who had the fear of flying. Also, when Rose had her heart attack-where was her kids and family. She had 4-5 kids and only one was there. Dorothy's brother died. Where was the rest of the family especially the other sister, Gloria? Same with Sophia's wedding. Where were the kids and grandkids? It was a great show, nevertheless.

Mario Lopez has spoken about this role. He said that he hadnt had any permanent roles around this time. Mostly guess spots and that not too long after this is when he got his part in Saved By The Bell. Maybe there was no way to revisit because of conflicting schedules and that was probably a relief for the writers who probably hadnt thought much of the storyline after this.
reply

It was the 1980s. Back then there was no binge watching. The show came on once a week and the episodes were shown once and usually re-ran once a year, then it was shelved. If a bit part character made a second appearance there was usually years in between. The shows were plot based, not character based so it was not as important who played the smaller parts

Blanches Wikipedia brings up another good one; she mentions six kids, but then in Bringing Up Baby says I have had four children. I have never had a Mercedes. Plus, her grandson David was depicted as being Janets only child in season one but then later in the series, Janets daughter Melissa visits and neither she nor any of the other women even mention David.
reply

One big inconsistency was Dorothy's maternal grandmother, one episode she has died when Dorothy was a young child, then in a flash back episode she is alive and going to move in with Sophia and Sal when Dorothy was and adult and later on she has died before Dorothy was born (Angelo made a promise he would become a priest when she was on her death bed.
reply

LOL. The girls wore all those fancy clothes to so many gatherings, they had hired a nurse for Sophia and a house cleaner at some point, Dorothy and Sophia flew business class to New York (they also stayed in a fancy hotel at Disney World, but the four of them collectively could not afford to buy a new TV set and were always crying poverty!

Also when Blanches duaghter Becky first came she was beache blind and extremly obese and leaves a abusive relationship next time we see her she is a dirty blonde and is skinny who is getting pregnant with artificial incimanatiin becuase as she says she does want to get married witch I thought was strange

Seinfeld was the same way as are many shows. Kramer had a dog then it's gone, never mentioned. Both Elaine and George had siblings and later they didn't etc. At the end of the show the cast bragged that they never hugged on the show like other sappy shows. They hugged in the series, several times.
reply

Dorothy and Stan's children, Michael and Kate, are introduced in season 1as being in their twenties. Dorothy gets pregnant with Stan when she is 17: the reason they had to marry. Since Dorothy is in her mid-late fifties at the beginning of the show, both her children should have been a lot older.

When Blanche met Rose, she was holding a cat. In the episode when Rose realized she was addicted to pain medication for 30 years, Dorothy stated that rose was allergic to cats after she tried to lie about why she couldnt stop taking the pills that day.

There was also how long Dorothys father been dead. I remember that in one episode ( I think from season 1 or 2) Dorothy said that her Pops had been dead for 27 years. Then in a later episode ( in season 5) she says that hes been dead for 15 years
reply

The writers certainly did not foresee deades of back to back to back syndicated reruns. The children's names (& numbers of them) of all the ladies kept constantly being changed. It is jarring. Poor 'Skippy', Blanche's son, was mentioned only once. TgT
reply

There were numerous inconsistencies especially with all their children.
Many times when the children had reoccurring appearances they were casted by different actors. Dorothys son Michael is the only character that was played by one actor.

I always wondered why everything happened in Miami. Especially the events from their NY past. Phils funeral, he didnt live in Miami yet he was buried there and Maxs wifes funeral the same there. At least Big Daddys funeral was in Georgia.

Theyre was an interview with Betty White sometime ago she said the golden girls could of gone on for 2 more seasons I guess without Dorothy (Bea Arthur) Im guessing until 1993 or 1994 but I honestly dont think it would of been the same.
reply

I love The Golden Girls shows I have all seven of them and I got to walk the mall and I'll be glad to watch him all again but I want to take good care of them because they are a collector's item now since all the girls are gone
reply

I love this show, but I always got confused about how many children Blanche had, and when Rose said she couldnt understand someone hating their sister only to admit to hating her sister Holly only a few seasons later!
reply

If they stuck with the same characters it would have become like a modern sitcom dull and boring. The way of thinking they should have stuck with the same characters is probably why modern sitcoms flop and stink.
reply

What about blanches son skippy who was brought home in a towel Dorothy wanted to destroy? Blanche used it as a lie but still said she has a son named Skippy. Never once mentioned other than that instance lol.
reply

The biggest continuity error is Dorothy's children. We ate told she had two children Michael and Kate who are both in their twenties, but where is Dorothy's 38 year old child, the reason she had to get married?
