I'm seeing alot of comments saying something along the lines of it's a shame he never got to see how successful rent was but knowing his struggle from having Marfans and being a struggling artist myself, the biggest tragedy of his story is he never got to live in comfort while doing what he loved. The stress and heartbreak of poverty is a soul crusher on an artist. I'll never stop being an artist or advocating for Marfans research, and I truly appreciate what he did to make waves in both communities. Such a beautiful soul.

It's humbling and disheartening to think, a man of Jonathan Larson's incredible genius struggled, STRUGGLED for so many years to achieve success. He never gave up even though a part of him really did. But not be able to bask in that glory on the eve of his triumph due to his sudden, unforseen passing. Makes one wonder, how many people of equal or lesser talent threw in the towel?

Johnathan Larson leaves me thinking the same way Alexander Hamilton did. What would they do, if they only had more time? What breaks my heart the most, is he never got to see Tick, TickBOOM! Be a success, same story with RENT. Lin-Manuel Miranda really is changing our views on people of history, by telling honest stories, about honest and good people

Both Jonathan Larson and Howard Ashman were musical geniuses. I always wonder what we wouldve gotten from both of their deaths wouldve been prevented. One from AIDS and one from a treatable heart issueso glad for all the works they both inspired after they were gone

I got to see Rent for free at my local arena in the front row, and at the time, I thought it was the weirdest plays Id ever seen. Looking back, and knowing who Johnathan Larson was, I can appreciate it even more. Though I always thought it was a gem of a musical.

Thanks MsMojo for the 12 minute version of a documentary that's already out there. By the way, you forgot the FACT/FICTION clickbait part! You're not Mojo, are you? You're kinda the thing that Jonathan Larson was disgusted with and put in his songs.

I dont even know what to say. As a writer, his story is incredibly inspiring and it's heartbreaking that he didn't get to see it all come to fruition. Andrew delivered an incredible performance and I'm so glad his work is still being recognized.

One of Jonathan Larsons close friend recently published his reaction for this movie. It was very touching because he said it felt like their friend is back again together with them for the hours of the movie. Congrats to the whole crew!

My favorite Jonathan Larson song in Rent is Without You. All of the songs are wonderful, but Without You brought me to tears. I am so glad I got to see the 25th Anniversary show at our new Playhouse Theater! Amazing performance!

Jonathan Larson was a motivational for all the young generation who is passionate in songwriting and making music etc. Garfield did phenomenal performance and hope that he would win Oscar for his great acting in this movie.

I don't follow Broadway or musicals, and I couldn't quite catch this in the video, but exactly did he change about Broadway and musicals? Like what was the scene before hand for what made Jonathan Larson so revolutionary?

I'm sorry, Larson's life was anything but tragic. Exuberant, inspirational, tenacious, devoted, engaged, empathetic, kind, smart. his life was truly ALIVE!
It's his death that was tragic, not his life.

Interestingly enough, I walked out of Rent sometime during the first act. Too loud. Obviously, a real error on my part. Later, I discovered that a friend had done the same at another performance.

He was a man that would make the fathers of Tragedy (the ancient Greek playwrights) go, What a try-hard. And they would say this because they invented Comedy as a way to cope with Tragedy.

Rent is in a special place of my heart. Im from Japan but I even went to Moondance Diner wanting to feel a piece of Jonathan. Watching this and reading warm comments here are comforting

It's been about a month since my dad passed away, and i got to know today that jonathan was only 7 years older than my dad. It's so unfortunate to see people pass away so young.

I watched the movie without even know who is Jonathan Larson and I thought its just a fictional movie before. OMG. what an amazing story. Rest in peace.
reply
