I was so happy to see Strictly Ballroom and Crossing Delancey high up in the list. I love both movies. I ended up having my own Crossing Delancey in real life, having a love at first sight encounter with a man that I would have never noticed otherwise. I have three university degrees and run my own business. He is a chef in a fast-food restaurant and a single father of two young adult children. he was not looking and I was not looking, so it was freaky that we both had that immediate spark and feeling of knowing each other. Turned out he was the most intelligent, funny man, with the ability to live in the moment, and of course a great cook. Almost ten years together now. So I do tend to love films using the formula of opposites who find they have more in common than imagined, and both Crossing Delancey and Strictly Ballroom exemplify that.

MsMojo didn't mention it, but Deliver Us from Eva (2003) is another adaptation of a Shakespeare play turned modern movie. In this case, The Taming of the Shrew. I love these and look for them. The last one I saw was 10 Things I Hate About You (1999, which was based on. The Taming of the Shrew. And yet, completely different movies thanks to the cast and setting. I also enjoyed She's The Man (2006) which was based on Twelfth Night. I am sure there are many more, but those come to mind immediately.

Deliver Us From Eva sounds like it is taken, at least a little bit, from Shakespeares Tami g of the Shrew.
How can you talk about Down With Love without including where it came from: that its a find send-up of the Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies of the early 60s?
The Strictly Ballroom pic in the thumbnail is the reason I clicked on this vid. This is one of my very favorite 90s movies. One of my all-time favs in general. I have watched it so many times.

The American President and Strictly Ballroom have been among my all time favorite rom-coms. Both are fantastic and should be wildly adored! Knowing The American President was essentially the spark or seed that then became my all-time favorite series (The West Wing, which makes me love it even more. (And Only You is also excellent)

From your previews, the only one of these that interests me is the one I have already seen at least a dozen times---The American President. and I might be talked into watching the Drew Barrymore movie with Jimmy Fallon (was it)---the rest? I haven't even heard of until now and I can understand why.

I have never heard of Crossing Delancy 11: 33 before this countdown and now its on my Must see List! As a bookish, 30 something is who also just Exhausted thinking of another talking stage or What's your favorite color? stage. I so get the outburst to the well meaning elder, lol.

Crossing Delancy is good. But strictly ballroom is delicious. Nothing like dancing to start a romance. I own the DVD and I don't know how much I have watched this movie. Best retelling of the Cinderella story ever. This movie is so excellent it should have had a sequel. I love this movie!

Even though there are a handful rom-coms on this list that I've enjoyed watching (multiple times, there are so many that I haven't seen or even heard about. I think the most romantic one for me out of these choices is Crossing Delancy (made me want to go to NY and get some pickles.

Strictly Ballroom has always been one of my very favorite movies! Awesome in every way! The American President is also up there on my list. Wish Cutting Edge made the list. Return to Me is also an underrated gem that I have watched numerous times and never get tired of!

Decoy Bride is amazing, and it's driving me nuts that I've been in the mood to watch it and it's not available for streaming basically anywhere. Considering how well known the trio of lead actors is, it's baffling that it's not better known.

The top three are some of my favorite films of all time. Strictly Ballroom is an amazing film with a new style of filmmaking. The good characters are all real, earthly, and in some cases gritty while the antagonists all seem like caricatures.

I love that Strictly Ballroom is #1 on the list. It's one of my favorites. However, I'm sad that What's Up Doc? wasn't included. Not enough people have been exposed to that gem of a rom-com imo. I quote it multiple times a week on average.

I'm a rom-com enthusiast, and I gotta say I didn't like She's Out of My League.
I also have a flexible definition of comedy, and I wouldn't call Take This Waltz a comedy.
But I second Crossing Delancey, which I enjoyed watching.

'The American President' is a wonderful movie. Highly recommended. 'Deliver Us From Eva' is another update to a Shakespearean play - Taming of the Shrew. Read that first, then watch the movie. It adds to the experience immensely.

Strictly Ballroom is one of the best movies of the early 90s period - perfect story, great characters, great intro to Baz Luhrmann's signature style too. So happy to see this underrated masterpiece take top place here.

A little known romcom/parody I enjoy is The Baxter with Michael Showalter and Michelle Williams. It's about the boring guy who always gets left at the alter in romcoms in favor of the more exciting hero.

I agree with this list - some of my picks for underrated movies were on this list - but one that was missing is Forget Paris which I believe improved upon When Harry Met Sally.
