I met Ms Rogers back in 1972 i believe, she was still so pretty and very sweet to me! It was some kind of special thing going on in Huntington Beach where I lived, my daughter was 2 months old and Ms Rogers commented on how cute she was. My daughter is now 50! I wish I could remember what was going on, I was just going to the HB Mall to get baby clothes and happened to walk in the entry where they were setting up, I saw the sign, then her, she just looked so beautiful! its a nice memory to have.

I love the art deco glamour and sweeping drama and beauty of Never Gonna Dance in Swing Time and Face the Music and Dance from Follow the Fleet and, of course Cheek to Cheek in Top Hat. But there's something fun and skillful and effortlessly stylish about them dressed down with Ginger in trousers. pants. in Bouncin' the Blues in The Barkley's of Broadway, I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket in Follow the Fleet, and Isn't It a Lovely Day to Get Caught in the Rain in Top Hat.

My wonderful Dad was 22 years older than my Hawaiian Chinese mom ( He was a blond haired blue eyed charmer) they had a story tale love to the point that my friends in the Islands pointed out that they were always smooching! He introduced me to the real talent from his teenage days and in 2023 I cannot thank him enough to see the stunning artistic performances of these movies and I am passing on his love and legacy

1. I'll Be Hard to Handle (Roberta) is one of the few numbers they did together - the only one? - where their tap-dancing was recorded live. which is why you can hear Astaire's impromptu vocal sounds as well. After that, the sound of their tapping would be dubbed later by Hermes Pan. 2. The omission of Let's Face the Music and Dance (Follow the Fleet) and Pick Yourself Up (Swing Time) is unfortunate.

During the Cheek to Cheek dance. Fred wasn't aware of the dress that Ginger picked out to wear. The feathers that were on the dress constantly were flying off & getting in his eyes, mouth & face & he was getting so frustrated. After this Fred was consulted (or at least, shown) the dress Ginger was going to wear so that the Feather disaster would never happen again!

Cheek to cheek, still so complete, still so replete.
Exquisite & supreme. A pair beyond compare.
Emotion & devotion, ever so meaningful and movingly expressed.
With that perfect partner, dance is so much more. So much more.
To prance, or really dance, that is the question. In Fred & Ginger, you have the answer.

Im surprised you missed the Yam song from Carefree. That dance is iconic and one of my fave dances of theirs bc it has a part where there are tables around them and in each one he puts his leg up and then swings her around and land perfectly on each chair. It looked extremely hard to do and amazed me as a kid and still now even at 30.

Im 30 now and Im so glad my aunt got me into watching the Fred and Finger movies when I was a little girl. I loved their connection since then and now that Im older I can appreciate the hard work and artful beauty of the dances. Love their chemistry in the dances, acting scenes and singing. Lovely romantic onscreen dancing duo!

The best description for Ginger Rogers' talent: She did everything Fred Astaire did - in high heels and backwards.
Who else could tap dance with wheels on their feet? Donald O'Connor in 'I Love Melvin' (1953) and Gene Kelly in 'It's Always Fair Weather' (1955, though 'Shall We Dance? ' preceded both by quite a bit.

While I love all these dances, I question your editing! You played several of the songs BUT cut the most iconic moments out via edits. You cut the third incredible dip in Cheek to Cheek, Ginger getting dumped on her butt in I'm Putting All My Eggs In One Basket, and the incredibly tender lift in The Last Waltz!

I read a story about the Cheek to Cheek number - don't know if it's true. Ginger loved that feathery dress and insisted on wearing it. Fred hated it; lol, he said there were feathers all over his tux, in his mouth, etc. - they were floating around everywhere. You couldn't tell on film!

I don't disagree with their list, the order or anything. I mean, it's Mr Astaire and Ms Roger's. It's all Great and awesome. I just love Pick Yourself Up. It just makes me feel good every time I watch it. I also love the whole song and dance routine to Let's Face the Music and Dance.

I watched a Carol Burnett parody of Rogers/Astaire movies and it was phenomenal, they truly captured both of their essences and I love the fun they embody in their dances
The 1949 film looks like a moment never passed. They are truly legends of dance
Thanks for this video!

How many appreciate the fact that film and now video have made great performers like these immortal? People will be watching these dances hundreds of years from now. Imagine if we could watch the original performances of Shakespeare's plays? The equivalent of that is now possible.

Ginger and Fred were like bread and butter. wonderful together but 'The Girl Hunt Ballet' with Cyd Charrise from 'The Bandwagon' was another of my top favorites.
Recently saw a clip of Cyd Charrise. at the AFI tribute to Ginger. blowing a kiss to her from the stage.

You missed out my favourite. I can't remember the song but they were dancing inside a circle like a bandstand She wearing her high heels and graceful as always and he leaped over the side with her following and they did that in reverse also

I can't think of any male dancer who had the suave debonair style grace and class as Fred Astaire. Gene Kelly didn't even cone close although he was good at what he did. They used to call Gene the poor man's Fred Astaire
reply

I cant believe The Continental dance didnt even make the list just an honorable mention? That dance is my all time favorite! Its gorgeous from her dress to the diverse dancing! And that elegant stair dance! Wow!
reply

I don't think I can pick a favorite; they are all too good! I have the complete collection on DVD and it's been awhile since I've watched Fred and Ginger. I need to break them out again. Pure artistry.
reply

Let's face the Music and Dance number in Follow the Fleet has to be in the top ten as well as the final number in Shall We Dance. Putting all my Eggs in One Basket in Follow the Fleet isn't worthy.
reply

I agree with your selections, but for sheer skill, I would have to say Let's Call the Whole Thing Off is my Number 1 pick, with Dancing Cheek to Cheek a very close second for its elegance.
reply

Honestly, every video Ive tried to watch of yours is so frustrating. I dont care what you have to say, I want the compilation. Is it AI doing the voice? Its brutally monotone.
reply

This may have been their most memorable number, but Cheek to Cheek wasn't one of his happier times dancing. Apparently, the feathers kept flying off and into his face.
reply

I could and have watched them dance all night. Even though I am a 100% disabled vet, and there is no way I can dance, watching Astaire and Rogers is totally fantastic.
reply

I'm shocked that Pick Yourself Up from Swingtime wasn't included nor was Let's Face the Music and Dance, two of the most iconic of the Astaire/Rogers reperatory.
reply

Who didn't love watching these two dance. They were so beautiful together no matter what they were dancing too. You can just feel the way they fit together
reply

The floating brigade. As they make you too, float into another world full of beauty, poetry, dreams, love and dance. Thank you, magnificent Ginger and Fred!
reply

I agree about your picks and rating! I am going to have to go watch that 17 min long sequence Continental now! Love Fred and Ginger! So much!
reply

I have a soft spot for They All Laughed from Shall We Damce, but have no argument with your list. They didn't film a dance I didn't like.
reply

I remember he wasnt a fan of the cheek to cheek dress bc the feathers kept flying everywhere all over the dance floor making it slippery.
