Who knew these sitcom stars were such good singers? For this list, well be looking at the most notable actors that are well-known for their comedic TV chops, but also have some serious pipes. Our countdown includes Michael Cera, Jason Segel, Jim Parsons, and more! Which sitcom star surprised YOU with their singing?

So you mention Jason Segel (rightfully so because his singing chops are amazing) and Josh Radnor (who surprised me; I didn't know he could sing) from HIMYM, but you didn't mention Neil Patrick Harris? Seriously? Neil Patrick Harris's voice is gorgeous! He's a Broadway star! He's hosted multiple Tony Awards! Come on, man.
Some other people you left out of this list that definitely deserved to be there: John Goodman from Roseanne, Kelsey Grammer from Frasier (again, mentioning David Hyde Pierce and not Kelsey Grammer? Seriously, Donald Faison and Judy Reyes from Scrubs, Topher Grace from That 70s Show, Ed Helms from The Office (this omission was a travesty, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, and Retta from Parks and Recreation, John Lithgow from 3rd Rock from the Sun, and Donald Glover from Community (although he has a full-on music career so I can let this one slide.
Also, nothing against Jennifer Aniston, but her singing is fine and nothing more. Several people on this list deserved to be ranked higher than her.

Melissa McCarthy will forever be Sookie St James on Gilmore Girls to me.
also if it hasn't already been done, you should do a version of this list for MCU actors ( not just the Marvel Studios stuff either, please don't neglect SHIELD, Agent Carter, Runaways, Cloak & Dagger, Inhumans or the Netflix shows. They may have been Marvel Television but they're still a part pf the MCU. so many of them can really sing I legit want a non canon musical special or What If? episode ( especially if they can get RDJ back. )

He has guested in Freaks and Geeks and Parks and Rec and is mostly known as a film actor, but Jason Schwartzman has a completely separate career as a musician who joined then co-founded, respectively, two EXCELLENT bands called Phantom Planet and Coconut Records which are both melodic, guitar based pop-rock with the latter being a bit more progressive in a Beatles inspired way.

I'm a little confused by Hayley Orrantia being on this list. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the topic, but how is it surprising that she's a good singer when her character's whole thing is that she's a good singer?
Like, I get that they could've just used someone else's singing voice, but I would've been more surprised to learn that she COULDN'T sing shrugs

One sitcom star that should be on the list should be will smith because known for playing William smith (instead of his real name Willard smith) in the tv show fresh prince of bel air, and also known for his rapping career with dj jazzy Jeff, he also played the genie in the Aladdin remake. He proved in my mind that a rapper could also sing.

I was honestly surprised by the singing chomps on select members of DCTVs cast. Melissa Benoist (Super Girl, Neal McDonough (Arrow, Tom Cavanaugh (The Flash, Jesse L. Martin (The Flash, and especially Grant Gustin (The Flash.
Yeah, still thinking about that damn musical episode

There were 7, perhaps 8 in that list (+ honorable mentions) that were beautiful voices, the rest was average AT BEST.
How about giving a platform to some REAL unknown talent instead of once again prepping up the same old jarring celebrities?
Sigh.

reply

to be honest most of them have a regular singing voice. nothing that can 'blow you away'. they just taught to follow the notes, that's all. only Debra has a voice that could make her a broadway star. others are not terrible, but nothing extreme
reply

Does Chuck count as a sitcom? Because Zachary Levi is a fantastic singer & has been nominated for a musical Tony.
And Sean Hayes & Megan Mulally have also performed on Broadway, if you want to mention the better of the Will & Grace characters

reply

I expected to see Katey Sagal, at least in honorable mentions. She is a sitcom veteran having done Married with Children, 8 Simple Rules, and now The Conners and she has an amazing voice, but I dont think people always know that about her.
reply

You guys did it again! This time you decided 'sitcoms' began in the 1980's. Ever hear of a series called 'Gomer Pyle' ever hear the voice of Jim Neighbors? No telling how many others just like that you missed with your recency bias.
reply

every time i watch one of these videos, i recall that one interview with tom holland and jacob batalon where they fangirled over this. its surreal to think, wow, tom holland has probably seen this video too.

Is Joseph-Gordon Levitt really considered a sitcom star? He hasn't been on a sitcom in over 20 years and is more known for his movie career than his t. v one.
These are all very talented people

reply

Dont forget about Bebe Neuwirth, Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell! Neuwirth was amazing in Chicago, and the other two were really good in Little Shop Of Horrors.
reply

I'm SO SICK AND TIRED of Jason Alexander (George in Seinfeld) not getting recognition for his singing! He's a Tony Award winning singer and dancer and an amazing one!
reply

Steve Carrell should definitely be here. He showed off his voice a few times on The Office and while hosting SNL but he certainly isn't recognized as a singer.
reply

Why would John Stamos even be mentioned. 'surprisingly good singers' when his character was a member of a band in the actual sitcom. why is it surprising?
reply

This could easily have been called Top 10 actors who THINK they can sing really well and we want to fan over, because a very few jewels were in that list.
reply

While not a big fan of Melissa McCarthy, if they ever did a movie about the Mamas and the Papas, I think she could pull of Cass Elliot easily.
reply

Speaking of other Saturday Night Live alums, the most obvious one-hit omission is comedian Eddie Murphy. Who remembers Party All The Time?
reply

Sarah Levy comes by it honestly. Eugene, who probably should be on this list (Schitt's Creek, is a fine singer/songwriter and guitarist.
reply

Hugh Laurie should be in the Honourable Mentions, though he's mostly known here for House, he was Bertie Wooster on British sitcoms.
reply

Jen surprises me that she is #1. Back in 2020, I listened to her song and I instantly cry of how angelic her vocals are.
reply

Wait wait wait. Are the rankings based on surprise, or based on talent? Because the talent felt like it was in reverse order haha.
reply

interesting how most of these people everyone knew that they could sing, except your number one who isnt a great singer.
reply

Nick Offerman? I didnt know that. I remember in the Sing movies, he voiced Rositas husband. I didnt know he can sing
reply

I thought #1 would be Jason Alexander, but maybe he's on the Broadway stars becoming stars in sitcoms or something.
reply

Stephanie Beatriz is the person who impressed me the most because I am used to her deep, low voice on Brooklyn 99.
reply

Y'all. You forgot Karen Gillan from the short lived sitcom Selfie. Check out her rendition of Sia's Chandelier
