10. Should have never been remade, so doesn't matter who played him.
9. Strong yeah, better actor, but too old for what they were trying to do.
8. It's Twilight. Who cares? Granted completely ignorant of the series since I haven't watched one so maybe I'm missing out, but kind of doubt it.
7. You're probably right, but I have a Coxien attitude towards HJ. He's done some great stuff, but also stuff that makes me really wish for a couple hours back.
6. Guaranteed. Winona Ryder is such an under estimated actor and pretty much everything she has been in is better because she is in it.
5. 55/45. Both would be great but they got it right. If not for LOTR maybe that switches.
4. Same as 8, does it really matter? Probably changed the career paths for both mentioned.
3. Easy decision. Love Mara, but yeah.
2. See #3
1. Eh, could say see #3 again, but not quite (and would have preferred your choice. While this came out during another (needed) resurgence of PC it is more a making of American opinions at the time. From the articles or vids I've read or watched about this the casting decision was not really a big deal to most outside of the US including fans in Japan and the creators.

This list could be a mile long. Seeing actors like Bruce Willis and Mark Wahlberg and Tom cruise in seemingly everything has been a real mood killer, in my opinion. Like Tom cruise in that mummy movie, that would have been better if they had focused more on plot over how star studded it was. And Mark Wahlberg in the transformers movies. Even the fifth one might have been watchable if he wasn't trying to carry the whole movie, as well as Hopkins being thrown in there like a last minute ingredient, and the weak convoluted plot certainly didn't help. I left the theater thinking this is a real middle finger to all the hardcore transformers fans so I didn't even watch the one all about bumblebee. And Bruce Willis is constantly thrown into 2nd rate action movies like that's the only thing he's good for. I'd say he's thrilled to retire now finally. And I didn't care for Tom Hardy in mad max either. He didn't seem all that important to the plot, it could have carried just as well with a no name actor alongside Charlize Theron. And the same for most of the others, it would have been more entertaining with a fresh actor.

Steve Coogan as Inspector Clouseau instead of Steve Martin, but this would have required a total revamp of the movies, without the whole 'we're French; isn't it crazy? ' - Martin might have been better as Dreyfus.
Ray Winstone should have been instead of Sasha Baron Cohen twice, as Thernardier in LES MISERABLES (who was supposed to have been an army sergeant with decades of war experience; SBC as a sergeant suggested that there were no corporals or privates left alive - I don't know if Winstone can sing, but SBC can't); as the station inspector in HUGO, with Jude Law instead playing both brothers; as it was, Law and Winstone were appallingly underused.
Armie Hammer as Hansel in HANSEL AND GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS: They were apparently supposed to be twins, and he's lot nearer in age to Gemma Arterton than Jeremy Renner while looking a lot more like her. He could also have been Carlisle in NIGHTMARE ALLEY - Bradley Cooper was way too old to be 'starting out' in the business, more than a decade over Tyrone Power was when he had the role (same objection with Rooney Mara vis-a-vis Coleen Gray.

Hot take, but Michael Gambon's Dumbledore handles the darkness of the 3rd movie onwards perfectly, you can see that he is more human and less of the ethereal, flawless Dumbledore we initially see in the first two movies. With Sorceror's Stone & Chamber of Secrets, the whole HP universe is brighter, more colorful and overall less. daunting. But with Prisoner of Azkaban, we see darker themes, darker colors, and sadder music - Michael Gambon's Dumbledore is perfect for this. I can't really imagine Richard Harris's Dumbledore in the cave scene in Half Blood Prince, because he felt almost godlike, the way Harry saw Dumbledore in the first few books and movies. But as the series goes on, especially from the fifth movie onwards, Harry himself starts to idolize Dumbledore less and sees him as a human who is flawed, and becomes angry with. This whole change makes a lot of sense, and I think overall both actors did an excellent job with their portrayal of Dumbledore as the individual years demanded it.

Ghost in the Shell was not whitewashing! How many times before you finally get it! No actual fans were upset, only self-righteous people with the self-importance to feel offended on behalf of people who aren't actually offended. What's even better is that Scarlett Johansson didn't play Motoko - she played Major (and yes, there's a difference. Even the original creator felt that Scarlett Johansson was perfect for the role of Major! Motoko (the actually Japanese person from which Major's ghost was taken) was actually played by actual Japanese person Kaori Yamamoto. It's like you are trying to manifest this lie of whitewashing by repeating it over and over, but it just isn't true.

Dear Ms. Mojo, your choices were great until you got to Ghost in the Shell. You obviously have no real knowledge about the anime or the manga. Firstly its only here in America that the opinion was Major was whitewashed. Had you seen the anime or manga Scarlet Johansson was spot on. Also if you took the time to even watch the movie the whitewashing of the character was essential to the plot and the makeup of the character. Also there was a Japanese actress who played the role but it was when she was still human. The only thing Japanese about the character is the brain inside a robot, so essentially what race are cyborgs? Thats why your addition of this movie is a little naive

Qoirianka K'inche was Tiger Lily in the TV series NEVERLAND
Anthony Perkins was a bit of a pretty boy screen persona when PSYCHO was made, not automatically the 'creepy killer'; Fiennes would have looked too much like him, but Vaughan was much more like the Norman of the book (where he's introduced right at the start, which was a bit of a giveaway)
Winona Ryder is a blonde; her usual dye job playing Sicilian Mary would have been a bit too much like ethnic blacking up.
Jesse Eisenberg looked less like an obvious baddy; Strong's screen back catalogue (and lack of hair) would have been a bit too obvious.
Ian McKellen should have played two wizards in franchises?

Hmm, I think Mark Strong looks perfect as Lex Luthor. Though I am glad that he could play a menacing villain in Shazam. I kinda wish if Bryan Cranston or Billy should have played Lex Luthor instead of Jesse Eisenberg.
Ralph Fiennes looks good as Norman Bates. But Anthony Perkins will always be Norman Bates.
Winona Ryder would have made a great Mary Corleone, though I sincerely understand why she left the role in the first place.
And yeah, I agree that Rinko Kikuchi should have played Motoko in Ghost In The Shell. She is an actual Japanese actress and was perfect as Motoko.

For a time, I really thought Ian McKellan was Dumbledore
But Ian McKellan wouldn't be a good choice since Gandalf and Dumbledore was too much alike
I don't want a Dumbledore that's basically Gandalf
Dumbledore in the books is a more layered character with his own flaws and painful past
As a big lotr books fan, someimes I feel like Gandalf is there to be Gandalf
We don't know much about Gandalf's past, we don't see Gandalf's vulnerability, we don't see Ganfalf's no-so-perfect side

one of the many problems with whitewashed roles in movies is that the industry main focus is using big named actors to draw the crowd in, so they forgo an actor or actress that is a better fit for the role in hopes the more popular actor/actress will bring in the money. But if only they gave the right actor/actress a chance, that actor could become more popular and more familiar to the public thus making a new high ticket actor and more diversity. It's a shame.

The fact is, movie studios will cast a big name, even if they don't fit the role, rather than a lesser name, because having a big name associated with it looks better on posters and gets more fans of that actor or actress to go. That star sells tickets, so they will go the big name.
Movies need to make money, and it is proven that casting big names brings in more money. Fact.

If they would've gone with an entirely non musical version of The Phantom of the Opera, I would have thought the role of the phantom was perfectly cast. Gerard Butler's acting and look was perfect for the phantom but anytime he opens his mouth to sing, I mute the TV. Russell Crowe did a better singing job in Les Miserables and we all know how much everyone LOVED his singing.

I know Scarlett Johanson made so many people mad with her casting but given the fact she's a cyborg and can look however she pleases and that Masamune Shirow himself said she was racially ambiguous should tell you this shouldn't be an issue. If Togusa or Aramaki had been cast as anything but Japanese then it would make sense for the outrage

Dont agree I wouldnt of watched Ghost in the shell if Scarlet hadnt played the role, i agree with your other choices, but movies need to make big money, thats why they cast big names for the most part, why on earth should a certain person be cast just because of when a movie is based lol

About Ian McKellen. He was initially supposed to play Dumbledore, but he declined the role because apparently according to him, Richard Harris said that McKellens acting was brilliant but not impactful. So he felt insulted and didnt want to play the role.

1: 40, I would have liked to see Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor personally. Honorable mention for Star Trek Into Darkness. Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan? Seriously! A Bollywood actor would have been in line with how Gene Roddenberry envisioned the character

My 2 cents? America just needs to STOP with trying to make anime live action. It's trash, like seriously. And also, I was shocked that Kristen Stewart as snow white wasn't on here. Literally the worst possible actress to portray her

I disagree about Gerard Butler being wrong for 'The Phantom'. I believed then, as well as now, that the opposite is true. Butler brings the right level of edgy rebelliousness and malevolence to the musical's title character.

Funny how Jesse Eisenberg played Zuckerberg and then sort of hugely exaggerated the same quirks to play Luthor, while the the real life Zuckerberg, Musk, and Bezos, would be the real life Luthor if rolled into one.

What about Ryan Gosling instead of Mark Whalberg in The Lovely Bones?
Also, it would have been interesting to see either Bryan Cranston or Corey Stoll as Lex Luthor and Jamie Chung as Allison Ng.
