I can't believe this but u always drag shakira down.
Shakira is known as the Queen of Latin Music because of the great diversity of her music and her work in popularizing Latin music worldwide, becoming of its most prominent female star.
No Latin female singer had become a global superstar before Shakira. Also, even before she came to the American market, she was taking Latin music on a revolutionary path by mixing rock style with Latin music. It is correct to say that she is an outstanding character not only in music but also in football. She and her Charity provides free education to thousands of students and she has inspired many Latin singers who are famous all over the world today. Even though I am Asian, Shakira's fame is very famous here as well. So why is she not among the most influential female singers?

y'all are always leaving Cyndi Lauper out of these lists. She only makes an appearance on the lists of female singers with unique voices. Why not take the time to research her contribution to pop culture and influence on a generation of female singers. she didn't sell a trillion records, but while she was on the radar she hit the landscape hard and just as heavy as the major hitters; including Madonna. Let's not act like Madonna was the only trend setter from the 80's; Cyndi also set trends on its head. And besides with all the lists of female artist accomplishments, she's part of the small group out of the gang that has a multi genre music portfolio. Her philanthropy reaches many spectrums and causes. The only thing Cyndi is not, is controversial. which could be why she doesn't chart as well.

I can't believe Sister Rosetta Thorpe was only an honorable mention. But Otherwise it is really tough to really get everyone on this type of list. However, I definitely think the order needs to be reworked. At least they tried to go back and include as many women in recorded music as possible and not limit it to just the last 30 years. To truly honor every woman who deserves it it needs to be broken up into multiple lists. Trying to include all genres throughout the history of recorded music is going to, by it's nature, eliminate some very influential women. That being said, I already voiced the gripes I had with this list.

cher, carole king. great artists but. name some artist who felt influenced by them? Practically 90's-2000 and some of 2010 female artist are inspired by whitney, madonna, mariah, janet. Selena was influencial? If it wasn't for the movie, or some other latin artist from colombia, mexico or miami nobody would know her. she was never even that famous in all latin america, brasil, argentina, chile, paraguay, uruguay, bolivia, peru, venezuela. she was barely known there. Also, celia cruz? name the artist she influenced. gloria estefan was more influencial than this two.

I feel that MsMojo should clarify how they defined influential and the criteria of the ranking because to rank Joni Mitchell behind Cher, Janet Jackson, and Selena is simply wrong in an objective way, unless all this list worries about is pop cultural influence, in which case Madonnas ranking is then way too low. Seems like this is merely a list compiled by someone based on their own preference. If that is the case, they should probably change the title of the video as my favorite women in music of all time.

Don't forget that Donna Summer was a Pioneer Music Icon that paved the way for Madonna, Beyonce, kylie Minogue, even for Whitney, and Lady GaGa. She hasn't received proper recognition so far. She always pushed the envelope and broke all type of boundaries in her time. So when the other called super divas came aboard the table was already served. One of the best female vocalist ever, she kept her wonderful voice until her final days.

I knew most of the women on the list would be there(just wasn't sure which place they'd be on, and the ones I didn't think about at first made sense when explained. Best selling/most popular doesn't mean most influentional per se, because many/most of the best selling artists/most popular are standing on the shoulders of artists before them(pioneers, giants etc) and because of them they have something to build on.
reply

when you say of all time do you really mean popular recording artists from North America from the last 60 years? Obviously no Maria Callas, no Marlene Dietrich, no Doris Day, no Edith Piaf. But even within this narrow criteria, what about Bjork, Nina Simone, Adele, Kate Bush, Patti Smith? A few unarguable choices ( Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell) but otherwise shockingly narrow.
reply

I first started to listen to Joni Mitchell in high school and continue to do so. A true artist both as a singer, song writer and a graphic artist she has influenced a new generation of artists. Before their was Alanis, Taylor or even Katy we have Joni who stood alone as a performer not the girl lead in a band and inspired other artists including Annie Lennox to do the same.
reply

Ok, but why is no one talking about Gaga, Bey and Taylor being in the honorable mentions? Like I was literally thinking about how they were probably not going to be on this list, but should definitely make it, eventually.
They are all more recent then the other ones, thats why I think they havent made it yet, but they were definitely game changers in their own way

Taylor must be atleast at top 15. Her impact and influences are insane. She introduced the country music to younger audiences in the global landscape. She redirect the rules of streaming platform which will last for a long time. She inspired a new generations of female songwriters and musician. She pushed the boundaries of genre-cross over and many more.

Patti Smith pleeeese, female icon of earlier punk rock. Kate Bush too, beginner of a legendary side of an alternative pop music for artists like Tori Amos, Bjork and more. But for that one I see the video has been made before Stranger Things exposed Bush in USA, so, time to know her better and understand her importance in pop/rock music.
reply

Donna Summer did create the Pop/Dance Diva concept. She was a True Pioneer who changed the face of Music and who influenced most female singers who followed until today. She could sing every kind of music and her phenomenal voice was unique!

I'm glad to see my top five in the list!
1. Janet Jackson
2. Loretta Lynn
3. Dolly Parton
4. Cher
5. Shania Twain
Although the list didn't have them in the order I'd choose, I'm just glad they were included!

reply

Its a crime Janet, Mariah and Whitney are not in the top 10. They had more impact in the music industry than most of the top 10. Madonna shouldve been at the top. She is the most influential female artist of all time
reply

Janet Jackson Madonna Cher Shania Twain Diana Ross Mariah Carey Whitney Houston Billie Holiday at a James Selena Aretha Franklin Ella Fitzgerald they are the best singers on the list in my favorites
reply

Yeah, Mariah which is only second to the Beatles in #1 hits (above Elvis) should be higher. As Shania Twain. But I'm also surprise that Stevie Nicks and even Ann Wilson are not there either.
reply

I don't even understand how Beyonce and Taylor Swift are on this list. Everyone on the list has been in the music industry for over 30 years. I feel them 2 have a long way to go.
reply

In my opinion, at least one of Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry and Stevie Nicks should be in the top 20, and Anna and Frida from ABBA should be in the honourable mentions
reply

Barbra formed what we now see and know as a diva, Whitney Mariah and Celine were inspired by Streisand, she is definitely on top 5 on influence.
