She was my go to when I raised my daughter. I also had two sons and a lot of people gave me a hard time about the fact that I spent a lot of time telling my daughter she could do anything and I did it every single minute of every single day of her life until she went to college. My sons did fine that's because they already had their way cut out for them as soon as they were born.
Now where do I get this feeling from?
My father and grandfather had a business a construction business that went back several generations. After my grandfather died my dad tried to get my brothers to join and take the helm. With 3 boys none of them wanted to. He sold the company
He Never Once Asked Me.
I got married I got abused but Barbara Walters would not let me make that excuse. In the end I became the most coveted AutoCAD manager and designer in the construction industry in Houston Texas. Self taught.
And my daughter I will not tell you her name because she is entitled to privacy but she broke through the glass ceiling of one of the top 3 companies in the world and she is making a difference everyday in all of our lives. Thank you Barbara

I like many folks in this comments section have watched Barbara Walters my whole life and she was a role model for all women in this country no matter who they were or where they came from. My #1 favorite interview that Walters did was in 2006 with the widow of Steve Irwin, Terri, at Australia Zoo a few weeks after Steve had passed. Walters was very sensitive and empathetic to Terri and also showed kindness with compassion not only to Terri, but to Steve's father Robert when she had talked with him too at Australia Zoo. May Barbara Walters along with all the folks that she interviewed who have since passed on since their time together all rest in eternal peace.

She interviewed Michael Jackson. At times to me at least, she was very kind to him but not as rude as some others (like Oprah) have been. I respect her for not letting her personal views shade her journalisttic career and interviewing those people who were controversial because someone had to do it. She wasn't my favorite journalist but she wasn't the worst. She had a long rewarding life and i hope she's resting peacefully now.

Barbara Walters had a lousy journalistic voice and an unprofessional & irritating demeanor. I suppose she was angry at herself for having an obnoxious-sounding voice. This coupled with trying to make a point & prove that she could 'make it' in the business, while having a pronounced lisp in her voice. She should've been a behind-the-scenes person.

To be honest she was not a great interviewer, she lacked empathy, was judgemental, condescending especially towards women and a victim shamer. She got away with a lot of things back in the days. To be honest the interviews are iconic because of her guests. not her.

If the foolish human beings still do not learn what from split second to another second can happen, like it happened with Chrstopher reeves and that during healthy term of being human, why do we do such abusive harms, deceitful things to others?

Watching her interviews growing up was always on my TV in my house because my mom adored her and I grew up watching these iconic people being interviewed by a true journalist doing her job. She will never be replaced by another! RIP Barbara Walters.

I have a lot of sympathy for Monica Lewinsky. We all went through the young and dumb phase. We all have a chapter or two in our life book we'd rather not have read aloud. Monica Lewinsky's wasn't just read aloud it was broadcast world wide.

I love the Call me Kate interview with Katharine Hepburn and I'm especially happy the Kardashians didn't make the list. While it's funny how Barbara tells them they have no talent, I feel like we should not give them more relevance lol

6: 41 - Mental health issues? I doubt Givens truly believed that. She voiced that POV only because they were being interviewed.
Impatience isn't a mental health issue. Anger isn't a mental health issue.
It's a control issue.

Brilliant and legendary? She was judgmental and aggressive to any female who didn't fit the societal norm. Watch her interview with Spears - it's horrific. Walters is legendary alright, but not always for the right reasons.

I watched an interview with Courtney Love after Kurt Cobain died. It was pretty harsh but brilliant. Barbara said that was the most divesting interview she has ever done.

Barbara Walters was such a nasty piece of work. Always acting so sanctimonious to women she interviewed, all the while having a 20 yr. affair with a married man.

Anwar Sadat. I was so young but understood the complexity of what Ms. Walters was asking and they both were dealing with at the time. Rest in peace to both of them.

If you would just shut up with the voice over and lets watch the interview. No need to explain the interview when we can see it for ourselves. Ruined the video
