Not even an Honorable Mention for the reunion of the original cast members of The Phantom of the Opera? At the 25th Anniversary performance, they brought out the original London cast members and the creative crew. Original Christine Daae, Sarah Brightman sang the theme song with 4 actors doing Eriks lines. It was incredible! The last original cast member to come to the stage was original star Michael Crawford. Sadly, we were missing original Raoul DeChagney, Steve Barton, original Carlotta Guidicelli, Mary Millar, and costume designer Maria Bjornson who all since passed. Many phans had wished Crawford would have sang too, but he had just come from a performance in The Wizard of Oz and declined the invite to sing so he wouldnt strain his voice.

When I Grow Up from Matilda was particularly poignant, as composer Tim Minchin intended the song to leave younger audience members feeling optimistic and excited, while for the grownups its much more melancholy and nostalgic. For kids its about looking ahead to what they could do, but adults look back and often think of all the things they didnt do. I imagine it was even more impactful for the performers.
(Cant WAIT for the movie version to hit Netflix in December. I just wish I lived somewhere its getting a theatrical release)

Hello Dolly put on your Sunday clothes during the pandemic. Had everybody from Bette to Bernadette to Donna and the tours.
Some of the reunions during the Sondheim galas - Bernadette and Mandy / Joanna and Chip
All of the Les mis reunions the 30th anniversary of you find it is fantastic. Cameron M telling Patti to be quite is so funny and her reaction is everything

I met Brian Stokes Mitchell a long time ago (when my son now 15 was a baby) he performed at the Washington DC July 4th performance. He was with his family earlier in the afternoon walking around Union Station shopping. I was the ONLY one who knew who he was. HE WAS SUPER SWEET. I told him I was a HUGE fan. Sadly I didn't think about taking a pic

When I was young, Broadway was some far off place - only the rich could afford to see such magical shows. It was Rosie O'Donnell who opened up my eyes to Broadway through her show. Ever since, I have been hooked! My top three shows are Lion King / RENT / Wicked. and for me, Kristen and Idina will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart!

reunions require being in the same room together. Most of these don't qualify. The pandemic was a joke and wouldn't have happened had they not pushed social distancing and shutdowns which directly interfered with herd immunity. But don't let actual science interfere with our delusions.

I saw Ragtime in the months it premiered, as a school trip. It changed my life. Audra and Brian were a tremendous inspiration for me as an amateur singer. I wish I saw them sing Wheels of A Dream again. I am sorry I missed it for the first time. Thank God for the internet!

I don't have to wait til the end of the video, as a matter of fact I paused the video after the question just to answer: the original cast of Hamilton PERIODT! EDIT: BEYOND DISAPPOINTED IT IS #4 re edit: did not care in the slightest for anything else in this video

What about the epic finale of the 25th anniversary concert performance of Les Miserables? That featured a reunion of cast members from several different productions of the show, including the original 1985 West End cast led by Colm Wilkinson.
reply

I would add the original company of Les Miserables coming together at the 25th production to sing One Day More. It was the entire original company except the original Enjolras, who felt he could no longer sing the part.

I would love to see reunion performances of:
. Spongebob the Musical
. Seussical the Musical
. The Little Mermaid
. Jersey Boys
. In the Heights
. Young Frankenstein
. Shrek the Musical

Ones that didnt make the list, the Rock of Ages Reunion concert where they set off the fire alarm at the end of Sister Christian and the Cast of Hedwig and the Angry Inch doing Wig in the Box for Pride.

Is it weird that I kind of miss those zoom performances? The coming together, yet not somehow made it even more meaningful. No costumes, no sets, no special lighting. just pure & perfect.
reply

I wish Those Youve Known had more of the actual performance or at least HBO released the full proshot. I was lucky enough to go, and there was so much left out of the documentary.

Really, The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the musical that has a song called My Unfortunate Erection, is one of the most wholesome musical comedies of the early 2000s?
reply

Audra and Brian are forces of nature separately, and when they sing together it is perfection. And in real life they are both down to earth, compassionate and funny people

See idina and Kristen reuniting at the Tony awards was great but them reuniting for that wicked NBC special was even better because past Glendas and elphabas join them. Js

The first Broadway Musical I ever saw live was Ragtime in Junior High. I thank my poor, incredibly tolerant band teacher for giving us that opportunity.

How about Angela Lansbury and Beatrice Arthur reuniting to sing Bosom Buddies. This list, as many of yours, sadly, seem to only go back as far as the 90s.
reply

Can you perhaps talk less and let there be more singing? I'm here to hear the actual performances, not commentary showing what is obviously on the screen
reply

How did the cast of Merrily We Roll Along wasnt even mentioned? The Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened. documentary is pure Gold!
reply

Tony winners Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur reuniting to sing Bosom Buddies from Mame at the Tony Awards is one of the all-time classics!
