Most people in the world speak two or more languages (their regional language, the national language, maybe another regional language, English, etc, but Americans get so surprised when one of them can say a few words in other language.
Anyway, Jodie Foster's French is impeccable, and Viggo Mortensen speaks Spanish with a perfect Argentinian accent; Paltrow's Spanish is also good, with an accent from Spain. Chalamet's French and Nyongo's Spanish are competent with few mistakes. The rest can manage, although making mistakes and having strong accents. Cena's and Zuckerberg's mandarin is hard to understand due to not pronouncing the tones right. In any case, it is good to see they're all trying their best to learn other languages.

The great thing about the romance languages are that they share a lot of similarities due to their common Latin roots. I remember in my freshman year of high school I was taking Latin, Spanish, and Languages Arts/English at the same time. My Latin class wasn't a super serious class (it was mostly juniors and seniors, and it was the last year they offered it at my school, but I tried to pick up as much as I could. The vocabulary I learned in one class could be used to my advantage in another class, and I just truly think it's really cool. I hope one day I can actually get myself to sit down and actually properly learn one of them. Truly kudos to all the people who can speak multiple languages.

You're right when you say that you're not an expert. I know you couldn't possibly gauge the level of all these languages on your own, but claiming some of these celebrities 'speak' different languages is almost insulting! Sandra Bullock, Jodie Foster etc have outstanding skills, but Will Smith? (Or most of the people you said spoke Spanish) Even if some of them managed to pull out a few well formed phrases, you can tell by the way in which they speak, the filler words, the small quirks and accents that that's all they've got. No judgment at all to the celebs, just to you claiming that they speak anything more than middle school level!

Kobe's Italian was essentially fluent. It was obvious he used it regularly after leaving Italy. And Italy's influence on him is obvious if you see what he named his beautiful daughters. Spanish is so similar to Italian, it's a fairly easy transition from Italian and vice versa. I studied Spanish in school, after growing up with Italian. Especially living in LA, learning Spanish made a lot of sense for Kobe.

Hi Ms Mojo. I give Jon Sena props and he was not kdding it is basic, but it is not as perfect as you may think. I studied Mandarin for 6 years, leanred to nail the tones of the language, but his tones are not very clear. I was able to understand him but it was very simple. But like I said, I give anyone props who welcomes learning another langauge aside from English.

Several of the earlier US presidents are fluent in more than one language. Jefferson spoke French, Latin, Greek, and some Italian. James A. Garfield is the polyglot among presidents - he spoke and wrote in several languages including Latin and Greek, and taught languages at Williams College.

It's so sad that American people often don't even speak a second language. I speak four languages and forgot a fifth because I just didn't use it. But that's nothing special, one of my colleagues speaks seven languages. And we are just some IT dudes.

Hebrew is a very tough language to master. The alphabet and the reading from left to right takes a great deal to focus and concentrate.
Then, in conversation the sounds have to be right on target otherwise it won't idiomatic.

I am a mandarin speaker and I would have no idea what Zuckerberg and Zena were saying if not for the subtitles. Mandarin is a tonal language and they both seem to have difficulty grasping it.

I think you focused too much on Spanish, as it is almost mandatory as a second language. You could show more people speaking languages like Portuguese, for example.

Most of these people are NOT speaking correctly, but their effort is truly appreciated and shows their desire to respect another people, which is nice to see.

Not saying it is not impressive, but learning multiple Latin languages is less difficult than being fluent in say, Italian and Mandarin.
