I think it's easy to judge after the fact. When you have such an illuminous star such as Elvis Presley and you can see how he wasn't an allowed to shine as brightly to his absolute potential as he could and by today, standards and with all the opportunity start it affords but this the 50s to 60s.
Surely it's only a visionary carnegie promoter with a questionable background himself who would see the potential of such a controversial artist at time where that style of singing could get you killed Parker was taking an enormous risk.
And would Elvis Presley have gone on to be on of the brightest burning star if all The Colonel's energy in time wasn't not spent on promoting him these are questions we cannot answer.
I think he Colonel Parker was more than just a manager to him. He was both manager, mentor and father. something Elvis really need growing up. The only one fact is sure is the marriage and union of these 2 unlikely bed fellows that made a supernova like no other in musical history.
What everyone fails to see is the struggles and failures of what it means to be an illegal alien or the discipline in business and marketing to gain such a skill Parker would have had to drink from the poisioned chalise of both power money himself to gain such skills both personally and professionally.
As a manager he's job is unglamorous, unacknowledged only thing to keep you warm in bed is the cash carrying in your pocket it's a wonder he was obssessed with it but a journey nonetheless and money would have been to a person like Colonel Parker himself would have spelt more than material worth. He didn't have endless train of girls he would spent his fortune on but was money was freedom to him.
Even Elvis was spending it all his pay cheque on castle in the air and those he cared but mostly material things.
Whereas colonel Parker was reinvesting in more freedom his life he gave to Elvis though his taken in by the house and as his risky nature did eventually catch up to him which also he was consumed by the emptiness because he all his time was spent on Elvis. I think without a doubt Colonel Parker lived precariously through him.
Though Parker's legacy to me is his ability to spot a real talent when he saw. However to rise the star this poor boy of questionable background with hardly any formal training, if not unintelligent definitely unskilled parents when he found Elvis he was no body was no small feet and only a real genius could see his potential but it was goanna take a small fortune after all you can see Elvis racked up unpayable marketing bill and how many parents could brag they've spent that much on their own children.
It requires a skill visionary at that time that who was all in or nothing and in and of itself was legendaey as to why Elvis was loyal to him even to his very detriment and to the end afterall who was there to mentor Parker like a father when he needed and he would have needed it more Elvis he was an legal alien and his opportunities were fewer?
Because fair weather friends are everywhere once you're successful. However where were they when you were nothing?

There's some other facts the movie got right and wrong.
1 (WRONG: Parker was lonely in his personal life)
Despite what the movie maintains, Parker was married twice in his life; his first wife was a single mother named Marie Mott, whom he had married and worked with during his carnival days. She would travel with him sometimes during his time with Elvis, but would mainly be a housewife to her son from a previous marriage; she suffered from Dementia in the 1960's, and Parker was very heartbroken by this, so much so that her health played a role in his gambling compulsion. She died a decade after Elvis died; his second wife was Loanne Miller, who had been his longtime secretary and his most steadfast companion. They married seven years before Parker died.
2: (RIGHT: Parker lived in fear of Elvis dumping him)
Once Elvis became the king of Rock n' Roll, Parker was weary of Elvis' rebellious behavior and his growing determination to tour overseas; he stymied that determination not just because he had no passport, he believed that Elvis going overseas would put ideas in his head that threatened their working relationship; after all, to him, Elvis was his life and his meal ticket. Like in the movie, Elvis even wanted to work with Tom Hulett, the co owner of Concerts West, to tour overseas.

I was born 13 days after Elvis died, but cant remember a time where his music wasnt a part of my life. My Mother always played his records. When I began collecting music for myself Elvis was one of the artists included. Music has always played a prominent role in my life and it brings me such happiness. Im a fan of every genre except Opera Music. My collection has everything from Bluegrass to Death Metal and the last time I checked I had just over 17, 000 purchased songs on my iTunes account. And that includes everything available from Mr. Elvis Presley. He was a star and The Greatest Performer of his time. Nobody even came close to having the stage presence he had. If you watch his live performances you can see just how much he loved the music and how it just overtook him completely. He was definitely one of a kind.

The Best 2 Movies of 2022 the Batman & Elvis my opinion! Big Presley Fan, seen all the Movies Good( King Creole) Flaming Star) the Reno Brothers/ Love me Tinder, And the Bad well most of the Rest of them, though I did love Jailhouse Rock, & Roustabout, Viva Las Vegas! And although Liberties were taken in the Movie, Austin Butler did an Amazing Job/ His Performance was Oscar Worthy! He should have WON! I watch it at least once a month, I like it its an American Dream Story! Rags to Abundant Riches!

Most of the movie was told in metaphors and big picture ideas. CTP told the carnies there would be a marriage at the top of the Ferris wheelit ended up being a marriage between CTP and Elvis. The lightning bolt on young Elvis chest was just supposed to represent his love for the superhero. The mirror maze represents Showbiz and how CTP could help
Elvis navigate the maze. Stop taking the movie literally and see it metaphorically.

There is a story about Tom Parker. Some of Elvis' friends said they heard that Tom killed someone in his country and his parents put him on a ship to America. That's why he would never let Elvis do tours over seas. If he ever left the US he couldn't get back in. I never understood why Elvis gave him half of everything he made. He never cared about Elvis. All he cared about was him making money for him. I never did like Ole Tom

I think Austin Butler was the best part about the film because he performed the living hell out of his roll being Elvis. Other than that, it was very campy. Not great, but not horrible. It was also very Tom Hanks heavy which I wasn't expecting. Visually a lot but not what I was expecting it to be, a proper biopic, with a lot of facts glazed over. It was fine overall.

5: 49 actually, in the film it does mention their age gap of about 10 years, when priscilla is telling him he has gotten out of hand and shes taking the daughter away and moving somewhere else elvis says something like maybe when im 50 and youre 40 well be together again (not exact quote im going off memory but you get the jist of it lol)

Unchained melody was not the last song at that concert that was shown. The last song was 'I Can't Help Falling In Love With You. Just before his death he sang 2 songs at a private party for friends. '. Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain and lastly' Unchained Melody'. So it was his last performance but NOT at his last concert

Ugh the cultural appropriation thing
If a black man was born and raised in Japan, would it be cultural appropriation for him to write Japanese music? If you grow up, literally inside a culture, that makes it part of your personal culture. It doesnt matter where youre grandparents are born, you are born in it.

He was used and abused by his manager. He groomed his wife at the age of 14. His first wife of six years has lived off his name ever since. Her punishment is that their daughter died. Oh and now she is suing her daughters child for control over the trust.
reply

Do I agree with your picks? Well your last pick was a maybe, so no. What a terrible, wishy washy way to end. Do I think his mother dying while he was away is an honourable mention? Hell no. That is a key in the whole film. Should have been #1, no question.
reply

Omg lets also talk about Tom Hanks Dutch accent, which was terribly off. The whole movie I thought he was supposed to represent some kind of Jewish/Eastern European mixture or something. That Dutch accent should have been WAAAAAY better.
reply

Can we mention that Tom Hanks got Parker's voice completely wrong. You can clearly hear in many interviews with Parker, he sounded totally American. Even Elvis' cousin said Parker sounded southern and they had no idea he was Dutch.
reply

I come right from the same list from a ScreenRant video and it's the same as this one, since this was posted first then they copied this video, they have no shame, the order of the facts are the same and even the same wording

My mom's a huge elvis fan and she hates the film she said a lot didn't happen and some that did happened at different times than portrayed. She thinks austin did a fab job but doesn't like the film one bit
reply

The film did change a lot of things but that doesnt take away from Butlers performance. He totally killed it and transformed into Elvis the way Jamie Fox did Ray and Joaquin Phoenix did Cash.
reply

When i saw it for the first time i was like what is with the over the top trumpet music when he 1st sings and over the top screaming. and they put rap music in it for whatever reason
reply

5: 27 actually later in the movie when Priscilla leaves Elvis he says when your 40 and I'm 50 we will be back together implying Priscilla is in fact 10 years younger then Elvis
reply

All of the things this video claims the movie got wrong are extremely nitpicky. Plus they're blatantly wrong in saying Elvis and Priscilla were portrayed as the same age
reply

Parker stoled and cheated Elvis blind and lied to him and worked him till he couldn't go anymore what a worthless monster hell was open without measure when that bastard died
reply

The scene with Unchained Melody Austin Butler played Elvis leading up to The Real Elvis singing. Nobody could sing like that. Elvis was one of a kind. Sad he went so young.
reply

What a load of crap this movie was? Just like everything else Luhrmann foists on the public. A disgrace to a legendary singer. And. Tom Hanks with a phony Dutch accent.
reply

Number 6 is wrong. When she leaves him he promises when he's 50 and she's 40 they'll get back together. Technically it was an accurate representation of the age gap.
reply

I loved the movie. I was only 4 years old when Elvis passed away. I think the movie one of the best I've seen. He was an amazing man and he will be missed. RIP Elvis.
reply

Tom Parker didn't actually give himself the rank of Colonel, it was given to him by Jimmie Davis after Tom successfully helped him get in as governor of Louisiana.
reply

No mention of why the Colonel spoke in his original Dutch accent on the movie. I've always heard he used an American accent as you see in any footage of him.
reply

This was the worst willywonker and the chocolate factory bs of a movie I have ever seen. Along with the actor. Coming from a huge elvis fan. waste of time.
reply

Tom Hanks's Tom Parker reminded me so much of Penguin from the Batman TV Series it was hard to watch him without going Ak-Ga-gagaag Batman, Seeee?
reply

What a brilliant movie. My parents loved Elvis. I was 10 when he passed and remember them being very upset.
Great memories of an absolute legend.
