They're the dance numbers that defined 2000s movies. For this list, well be looking at the most dynamic routines and feel-good dance moments in some of our favorite noughties movies. Our countdown includes Billy Elliot, Step Up, Hairspray, and more! What's YOUR favorite 2000s dance number?

My top 3:
1. Center Stage - I saw it 4 times in the theater and use to work at a Dance Wear house store. I loved being able to point out all the extras who were in the movie that were professional Ballet dancers because their pictures for dance clothing campaigns were already hanging on the walls.
2. Honey - I actually purchased the song I Believe by Yolanda Adams on my ITunes specifically because of this movie and I picture the routine every time I hear it in my car.
3. Step Up? - I forget which number it is but it's the one with the end routine where Moose is late and he rides in on his bicycle and hits the sprinkler and that bursts so they have to dance it on carpet, I believe, but it's water down now.

Cell Block Tango blew me away the first time I saw it in a theatre. It was stunning and incredibly well done, absolutely powerful. I finally picked my jaw up off the floor and got up to go get some popcorn. As I turned toward the back of the theatre I saw, lit by the screen, just about every man sitting frozen, stricken with shock. They looked as if theyd seen a ghost. I whispered Surprise! as I walked on by. Im guessing that they had a rude awakening as to just how deep and bitter a womans fury can be. Its been 20 years and that mass stricken look remains a vivid memory.

With the exception of High School Musical 2, I have never seen any of these movies from beginning to end, while some of them I never saw nor heard of them(Center Stage being one of them. I Don't Dance from High School Musical 2 is my favorite song from that movie. It sucks that there was no mention of You Got Served nor Save The Last Dance. Nevertheless, I think this was a good list.

It's obviously (1) Moulin Rouge (2) Chicago (3) Abba. Everything else is just twice-chewed bubble-gum, repetitive and forgettable. Cinematography matters! And if the set is to gritty and the costumes so drab you can't see the choreography, and it becomes one big blur, what exactly is the point?

Excellent selections, and now I need to re-watch several movies and see a couple for the first time! Ranking is, necessarily, a subjective process, so I won't really argue the numbers, but for sheer ferocity the Moulin Rouge Roxanne tango really should have made the official list IMO.

Just unsubscribing because of the endless explanations they just go on & on and I really would enjoy the video if the explanations weren't soooooo long I never actually make it all the way through I usually give up on the video halfway through so I'm just giving up and unsubscribing.

Not mentioned, but should have been:
Magic Mike
Burlesque
Love Struck the Musical
Gentleman Prefer Blondes
Annie (the Original)
Just to name a few. Maybe you should make the list a bit longer. Narrowing down to only 10 may have been a wasted opportunity.

Star-crossed doesn't mean fated to be together, it means the opposite: a love affair in which the partners are destined not to be together. Speaking of which, how is Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge nowhere on this list, especially the introduction to nightclub (Zidler's Rap?
reply

You included the cheesy Mean Girls dance but not the prom dance from She's All That?
Also, of all the Moulin Rouge dances they pick that one?
I'm really surprised to see Save The Last Dance, Shall We Dance, and Bring It On didn't even get an honorable mention.

Im not sure if youre including movies that were made after 2010, but my favorite of ALL time is the opening sequence of La La Land, Another Day of Sun. Technically and emotionally, just perfection!

I always thought the Bollywood dance number at the end of Slumdog Millionaire was like an expression of ownership. This is India, warts and all, and we dance at the end of our movies.

Centre Stage is such an awesome movie, one of the best!
But shout out to John Travolta doing a high energy number in a fat suit, dress and heels!

Take the Lead & Center Stage are my favorites, however all of these dance numbers are pretty fantastic 'Love your posts MsMojo' Peace to you from V. A.

Milan rouge and Chicago and rocky horror picture show (idk how to spell the first one sorry y'all) are all equally my favorite movies hands down

A bit of trivia: The old men dancing in the Enchanted Park Dance scene were some of the original dancers from Mary Poppin's Chimney Sweep Dance.
reply

Center Stage using actual ballet dancers really made the movie because even the scenes in the classroom came across as realistic instead of fake.
reply

#1 is on point! Cell Block Tango really changed a lot of how we see dance and musicals in films. Also as a woman it's somewhat empowering.

Center Stage made me want to fling myself off a balcony. The entire routine was so hokey and stale. It belongs in same decade as Grease.

Sports and Dance? He might have almost revived something (along with the help of the Maori. The Spartans would have been proud.

This is why we need dance teachers to win awards they need to win critics choice and Oscars for those badass amazing dance numbers

If you like dancing and baseball check out the Savannah Bananas they are a minor league baseball team that dances on the field.

How could you miss the great dancing in The Greatest Showman. The double dance with Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron was incredibile.
reply

I love center stage as an ex ballerina who stopped after a magor back operation. It makes me sad i cannot dance anymore
reply

13: 04 top song has to me Ella Enchanted Dont go breaking my heart. If not then it should have been an honorable mention.
reply

I feel like She's All That's prom dance scene missed out on this list by being 1 year short of being a noughties film.
reply

I'm so happy Center Stage made the list! I'm shocked Burlesque didn't, though. Their final dance number gave me chills!
reply

God, Center Stage is such a great movie. I think I watched it like 20 times when I was in middle & high school.
reply

Why wasn't You Got Served in the mix? The first ten minutes alone was better than almost everything on your list!
reply

I absolutely love dance numbers, I've always wanted to be a dancer and tend to picture myself in the scene
reply
