My cousin went out to Hollywood at 15 and became a actress and she was 16 /17 playing sirens this was during the depression and war year's. her name was Linda Darnell and her mom might've been kinda bat crap crazy my grandpa remembered aunt pearl being unique but my cousin did get her money but still got emancipated I think at 17 after falling in love and getting hitched. but her rolls dried up partially because she wouldn't couch hop so to speak and I'm more proud of her for not sleeping her way to the top. my grandpa loved her till the day he died and yeah Hollywood is a cesspool. my cousin and I bare a slight resemblance to Linda we're not her twins but the family resemblance is there and we're 8 years apart but close and her late mom is Linda's twin and grandpa back in the day was told to get my aunt in modeling and Hollywood and he said hell no that town ruined my cousin and it's not getting my daughter. well when my aunt and my mom had girls myself and my cousin we were both cute kids and teens ( not a narcissist lol) and well meaning friends tell our moms you should get them in commercials or nickelodeon or something and both our moms would say hell no we're not going to put our girls on a street corner so why send them to Hollywood it's essentially the same thing with bigger pay and we want our kids to have a life thank you but no thanks. grandpa always said never go out to Hollywood without a good education and a plan b and a exit plan it's not for everyone he used Linda's story as a cautionary tale but still showing respect for his beloved cousin. people forget actors aren't better than anyone else and are somebody's loved ones too. please excuse my lack of punctuation my eyesight stinks

I just watched a documentary about Lora Lee Michel and how it was the judge who oversaw her custody cases between her adoptive parents, birth mother and acting coach through which he became aware of the exploitation of children in Hollywood then went on to focus on the rights and welfare of children within the entertainment industry and put in place laws to protect them physically, emotionally and financially. What is sad about that is those protections were put in place almost 80 years ago but children in the entertainment industry are still experiencing exactly what Lora Lee Michel did all these decades later. Nothing really changed at all.

I personally don't think that parents should be managers of their children's careers. Their #1 responsibility should be looking out for their children's best interests. When the parents are also managing their children's managers. then they are not going to look out for their children's best interest. Personally, I would let my child participate in local plays if they wanted, but no way would I let them be a child actor. If they want to do that when they grow up, that is fine, but children should be allowed to be children first.

When I was 9 I went to a talent agency and the first thing they asked me was Do you really want to do this? I said yes and my mom completed saying it was all my idea, which was true. My parents didnt want me to be an actress, so they took me out of the agency the next year. I only got back on acting at age 25, 4 years ago. I blamed my parents for it all, but when I see these kids, maybe they were just trying to protect me. OR trying to control my life because I ended up following what they wanted anyway.

Legendary child star Natalie Wood had a tough childhood she had psychological problems as a child star growing up, from relationships with men, a controlling mother, and wanted to end her life. The dark side of Hollywood today for child stars is very difficult, because as a child gets older, there is psychological problems and disorders that children go through at a young age into their adult years. Just research about legendary child stars that had psychological problems in Hollywood.

I feel like Jeanette McCurdy and Jodie Sweetin have similarities on a sad history. Both are blonde actresses with J as the start of their names, both have been a part of a popular Sitcom which not only is family friendly and has a secondary series related to it as a sequel/spin-off, but both also have had difficult lives which prompted them to write a book about their experiences. I felt that Jodie deserved to be on this list as well.

Jake Lloyd also had some major legal troubles. He was convicted of assaulting his mother, reckless driving (going over 100 mph) while avoiding cops in his home state of South Carolina, resisting arrest, and driving without a license. He spent 10 months in jail, without a trial, no doubt. While he was incarcerated he was diagnosed with schizophrenia which he now has under control.

Cute how many people act enraged over this evil, but still continue to fund Disney and watch other shows with kids on them.
I used to watch tv till I moved out. I dont miss it, and when I see shows elsewhere, I see them for what they are. Exploitation, and indoctrination. Youre too smart for thAt though, right?

Regarding Judy Garland MGM was NOT the first to introduce Judy to amphetamines, it was her horrific mother. Knowing that Judy's mother would do anything to have her daughter be a star, Mayer had no respect for Judy & could do anything to her because her mother didn't care. Her mother sold her to the Devil.

I read Shirley Temple Black's memoir years ago and was saddened to learn her parents spent all her earnings. It's actually good that she broke away from Hollywood and later became an ambassador for President Reagan.
Jeanette McCurdy's memoir is on my reading list.

10: 55 Mandela Effect alert. Glenda The Good Witch doesn't say to Dorothy, click your heels three times. She says tap your heels three times. I could have sworn it was click until I saw the clip recently. Hearing Glenda say tap seems all kinds of wrong to me.

The worst thing is when children are abused/bullied from their stage mother or father a person who is not your relative and should be a good example and helping one is probably the hardest thing there is. But nothing these adults expose the children to is okay.
reply

It doesn't mean they're ungrateful with their lives, it's just they were treated poorly and had to spend their childhood doing things that are not fully their passion. Apparently health & happiness should be on top of priority when it comes to living the life.

After hearing these stories, I feel bad for the child actors. You only see their success, but, never the struggles they go through nor the demons they've battled. It's like that saying, You don't know what goes on behind closed doors.
reply

I love Judy but I feel so bad for her. Jeanette too. I read her book and I couldn't believe it. I kinda feel guilty watching Icarly now. I'll always love it but at the same time it made me look at it in a different way

I read Jeannette's book, it was an eye opener. I think almost all child actors deal with eating disorders because of this country's messed up view of what is attractive. This country is the worst country on the planet.

You forget Natalie Wood Natalie Woods mother was a evil witch. abusing emotional her inoccent child and forcing her in very dangerous Situation only for fame its very sad story. Natalie belong to nr 1 and not judy garland
reply

Unfortunately these stories are just the tip of the iceberg.
What about the abuse suffered by Corey Haim and Corey Feldman? It is so disturbing, yet no one seems to talk about it. Mojo Im looking at you

reply

I didnt really care about most of these until they got to the Shirley Temple part because that part is just sad because she was literally just a baby. I had to turn it off because thats just too much to take.
reply

There's nothing wrong with being glad your mom is dead. My mom was toxic, racist, homophobic and shady. When she died me and my sisters were very happy. It was like being told that your cancer is cured
reply

Why would these facts ruin my childhood. As I child I didn't really think much of the actors when I saw them I just saw their characters. I never gave a shit what went on in their personal lives.
reply

Why is it illegal to force toddlers to get a normal job and continue to work until adulthood to benefit their family, but child acting is totally normal? It's all forced labor on A CHILD.

You forgot about the cast and crew's poor treatment of Alexa Nikolas on Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 who played Nicole in the first two season then quit before the last two seasons.

What happened to Judith Barsi (aka Ducky (Land Before Time) and Anne-Marie (All Dogs Go to Heaven) still haunts me to this day and makes it hard to watch either movie.
reply

Poor Shirley Temple. This casting couch sounds weird and different fsm, but I will always remember her for her cute curls. Let's all look on the bright side!
reply

Stuff like this makes me resent straight people. The homophobia I experience even though all the straight people I know are terrible parents and people is infuriating
reply

15% is too little! The studios should be required to set aside 75% of the child's pay in a trust so greedy parents can't live off the child like parasites!
reply

Interesting that Drew Barrymore is not on this list! She went through a teenager rebellion period and rehab before finally making a come back as a adult.
reply

All of these kids telling horror stories about their childhoods and its still ppl in the comments saying But you wouldnt be rich without the abuse. Sick.

In the time of Babylon and before, high society sacrificed children to effigies of gods: Baal, Moloch. I think the practice continued but became occultic
