I mqy only have initially watched Newsradio, because my favourite Kid (of Kids in the Hall) was Dave Foley, but I was hooked with that very first episode. Maura Tierney was fantastic, as was Phil Hartman. The show never recovered from his death.
A Canadian show that could have easily been on this list is Twitch City, starring Don McKellar, Molly Parker and Callum Keith Rennie. It was just a little bit - or a lot - off, but absolutely hilarious. Don McKellar is pure genius in this show. Bur both Callum Keith Rennie and Molly Parker are also excellent.

Added several of these to my watchlists. NewsRadio was awesome and I definitely need to do another binge-thru.
If I were making the list, I would definitely add Mad About You. Paul and Jamie had the best relationship and were hilarious together.
Another great overlooked show was Two Guys and a Girl (and a Pizza Place. This show was How I Met Your Mother seven years before HIMYM and has bonus early Ryan Reynolds and Nathan Fillion. Absurdly funny and endearing yet weirdly oddball. Its just awesome!

Newsradio is my all-time favorite sitcom. They still had good episodes after Phil Hartman died but Lovitz was no Bill McNeal
Had no idea 3rd Rock was underrated, I loved that show.
I've never liked The Middle, seems like a bad copy of Malcolm in the Middle. Never could get into the Drew Carey show either.
I thought Wings would make the list, that show felt different.
And nice addition of The Hugleys but also should include Living Single, who I felt. was better than Friends.

I'd have to add Living Single, bounced around by Fox until the ratings fell through the floor. Sports Night, which was left in the dust because Aaron Sorkin wanted to focus on The West Wing. Frank's Place which hit on everything and was canceled because it offended the CBS brass. With the exception of Living Single, I don't think the other two are available to watch anywhere.

How is a show that's been on 9 years underrated and had a April Fools contest where you had to guess all the mistakes in an episode for a cash prize? Kathy Keeny did a guest spot on The Price Is Right taking over Drew's show on an April Fools episode.

I didn't like Benson very much. I loved Soap, and Benson was my favorite character on it, so I had really high expectations for the spinoff. Kinda like when the Ropers left Three's Company. Loved all the characters, but not the spinoffs.

You shouldve included Sports Night! It was a great show that only lasted a couple of years, but it was great! I was a fan of quite a few of these (esp Benson, but then we didnt have a lot of choice back before cable or streaming lol

If you are talking about underrated sitcoms then you have to mention Reba. Its underrated because it wasnt on a major network. It was on the WB (what is now the CW) and even being on that network it still was a ratings hit.

I've gotta go with Superstore, it quickly became my #1 go-to recently when I randomly searched Comedy series. It aired from 2015-2021 (and should STILL be going dammit) and I'm bummed I had no idea it existed until just recently.

How do you define underrated? If it won awards, got critical acclaim, good ratings to last more than 3 seasons, how is that underrated? Like Benson was a smash hit when it aired, so how does that qualify as underrated?

Newsradio was only watchable because of Phil Hartman. Andy Dick sure of that.
Drew Cary Show was terrible. Just so freaking bad. He's not funny. Most of the cast was not funny. I thought it was overated.

Benson! What a throwback! I used to love that show. And I still love the Middle. I re-binge it every now and again. And 3rd Rock was hilarious and touching at the same time.

The premise of 'Spaced' was funny. 2 single people can't find affordable apartments on thier own, but find a nice one for a couple so they have to pretend they're together

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia should absolutely be #1. It's the longest running live action sitcom of all time, and the vast majority of people have never watched it.

Good picks. Ones that come to my head: 2 guys a girl and a pizza place, off center, Titus, mad about you, malcolm in the middle (last one might not be so underrated)

So many good comedies fail because they're not mainstream enough. Frank's Place, Bakersfield PD, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Sledge Hammer, The Carmichael Show.

This is an excellent list. I forgot about Benson, that and it's predecessor Soap. Lots of funny lines. Another underrated show, Life in Pieces.

Agree with all the comments here. USA network killed it back in the day with shows like Wings, Scrubs, Psych, Monk, and Burn Notice.

Drew Carrey would be more well known if they released it on DVD or streaming, but the damn copyright issues with the music.

I am sad that Better Off Ted did not get a mention. That was one of the funniest shows no one knows about.
