These teen movies are just as much for adults. For this list, well be looking at the best films that focus on teenagers, but can also be appreciated by adults, thanks to mature themes or clever writing. Our countdown includes Stand by Me, Risky Business, Heathers, and more! If theres a teen movie YOU still love as an adult, tell us in the comments!

I enjoyed your list, and while the teenage has long passed I find myself remembering specific instances in my own life where I felt the same way as some of the characters. THE BREAKFAST CLUB and STAND BY ME are in my top 20 favorite movies to rewatch. I would like to share 5 more that I have enjoyed. DANGEROUS MINDS, 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, EMPIRE RECORDS, and AMERICAN PIE all deal with very real teen issues and questions while still being entertaining for
GenXers. I did say 5. EUROTRIP because Scusi it's so damn funny! It also deals with the sudden changes and the possibilities that can appear after high school graduation.

Boyz N Da Hood has to be that movie where it felt it was geared towards adults than teens as the characters are high school seniors. I felt it was the second black teen movie since Cooley High. The only other black teen movie that I can think of that was released in the modern age was The Hate U Give. As much as those are important movies, it would be nice to see a black teen comedy movie as the movies I just mentioned are dramas.

Cruel Intentions wins this list! Congratulations! Here are some more teen movies that arent just for teens.
The Hollywood Knights
We the Party
American Graffiti
Bandslam
Save the Last Dance
10 Things I Hate About You
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Prince and Me
Grease
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Ghost World

I have loved teen movies even after I turned 20. And I love this list. especially with Mean Girls in the mix which I took my mom to on Galentine's Day who response to how she liked it still resonates: If I was 14, I would have appreciated then. In short, she loathed it.

I LOVE Love Simon! The way I found out about it was it was on tv and I clicked on it and I was intrigued by the plot and then I watched it online from the beginning because I didnt want the see the ending just yet. Then I found Love Victor and later I got the book.

Ive seen Boyz N The Hood many times in my life and it never occurred to me that it was a teen movie; especially as a black kid myself, I saw each of those boys as men especially Ricky since he had a kid. But I suppose it was a teen movie this whole time

I was a mid 80's baby so I missed some of the earlier ones but I can remember watching (and not-really watching) many of them. Without saying too much, I'm glad my oldest kid was less reckless than I was as a teen and I hope my youngest follows his lead.

Cruel Intentions was one of the first teen movies I saw, and I wasn't prepared for how dark it was. I used to watch it secretly with my cousin, and one of us would take turns guarding the door, so that no parents would burst in unexpectedly.

All of these deserve to be on this list simply because they were written by a writer, not a producer. Some movies these days feel like they're written by a committee.
I was a little put off by the cut and paste narration, though.

Heathers is like an anti John Hughes, in that it's far more cynical and snarky about its characters, in that they don't have hidden depths, but are just as nasty as they appeared. It was truly ahead of its time.

Im no longer a teenager, but a lot of these movies are still good and still work even if you saw them after your teens, like Dead Poets Society, Breakfast Club, Stand By Me, Love Simon, Boyz N The Hood

Now we need a teenage movie about autism and autistic teenagers that struggle and learn to deal with and get through life and face their problems with friends family and school with autism

if you're picking on films with leading teenage characters, you could include IVAN'S CHILDHOOD, LACOMBE LUCIEN, ORDINARY PEOPLE, COME AND SEE, AU REVOIR LES ENFANTS, EMPIRE OF THE SUN
reply

Why do many people say that Stand By Me is relatable? I'm certain that over 99% of 12-year-olds haven't gone on a very long walk for a few days to find a corpse, or wanted to.

The Breakfast Club will always be my favorite 80's teen movie. The casting choices were perfect, the script was great and the performances were outstanding.
reply

The Breakfast Club Its a really moving movie and always teaches me not to judge anyone before knowing their story My class should definitely watch it
reply

I feel like thirteen was my life story. I swear I love that movie to this day because it was identical to my experience in most of my teen years.
reply

I've had some of these movies for years and some I found after I grew up but really like them and a few I'm not going to watch for my own reasons.
reply

Why is the House Party (1990) not on the list? Kid n Play, Full Force, Tisha Campbell, A. J. Johnson, Martin Lawrence, and Robin Harris.
reply

Very good choices. I also recommend Igby does down. Is this a teen movie or just a movie about a troubled teen? Anyway, it is great.
reply

Fun fact: the girl with orange hair in the breakfast club ( molly ringwald) plays Noah and lees mum in the kissing booth franchise.
reply

Really, how about Clueless, 16 Candles, Valley Girl, Ferris, and The Sure Thing?
These are comedies everyone can watch together.

reply

So much honorable mention of teen movies.
18: 05- that I didn't see that coming of number one of the top twenty teen movies.

reply

Rebel Without a Cause is such a Hollywood classic, and a great predecessor for the surprisingly deep teen films to come.
reply

Dead Poet Society is one of my alltime favorite movies, it's so well done and emotional and my favorite Robin Williams movie.
reply

LGBT presentation has been lacking - really? Hormonal and chromosomal disorders are all there is in movies these days
reply

SO SAD! / That there are not more current movies RE: Romance /Teen movies etc. / Nothing exists in the last 5 years!
reply

I agree with most of this list. Another one that I remember loving is Pump Up The Volume with Christian Slater
reply

Some of these movies arent teen movies! Just because teens are in it it doesnt mean that theyre for teens!
