Parents would never tell their children the 'original' to their kids
-For the little mermaid the transformation is not only painful, but ever step as a human is agonizing. On top of the fact she doesn't get a happy ending. Since according to the story they don't have souls so they become sea foam when they die.
-In Rapunzel the witch finds out because the prince gets her pregnant, then banishes her and sends him off the tower into the roses below to wander blind until he finds her again with their kids.
-The one that finds Sleeping Beauty, in a version I found is a king that has his way with her while she's still asleep. And the one that wakes her up is the baby sucking on her finger in search of her breast to suckle.
-In Snow White yep the prince has a thing for corpses, its because they drop her the piece of apple is removed from her throat and she wakes up. Her stepmother is then forced to wear red hot iron shoes and dance until she dies.
-Cinderella is fun to, no redemption for the evil sisters. On cuts off part of her heel, the other cuts off her big toe. Going to the wedding to beg a bird pecks out an eye each. On the way back they are blinded in the other eye and live the rest of their lives as blind beggars.

Rapunzel was the villain in the original story. The evil witch as you call her was an old woman who lived on her own next to Rapunzel and her parents. Rapunzel was sent to steal food from the Old Woman's garden. Not because they needed it but purely because they wanted it. For trespassing she was locked in the tower.
Even the movie Tangled can't help but show Rapunzel's parents as evil. They stole an Old Woman's medicine to save the life of the Queen without asking the old woman for help and in doing so destroyed the item. Note she'd been using the flower without having to destroy it for years.
Not saying kidnapping is right and at least in Tangled Rapunzel was an innocent victim and not an accomplice but in every case Gothel is a victim.

In the original Little Mermaid, it wasn't about living on the surface that was the Mermaid's goal. It was gaining a soul. In that story mermaids can live much longer than humans but they have no souls so when they die they cease to exist. Humans live shorter lives but can be reborn or go to the afterlife after death. So the original Mermaid seems more selfish than the Disney version even though the Sea Witch was more a nuetral who warned the mermaid of the consequences and never once tried to take over the sea.

The Little Mermaid actually was a bit more bitter sweet, she doesn't just turn to Sea Foam, God takes pity on her and her sacrifice out of love for the prince, and grants her a human, soul, where in she becomes a daughter of the air. There she watches over and protects the children of the world with the other Daughters, and for every good deed one of her children does she gets one step closer to heaven, while for every wicked act, she must wait another year.

UH in Disney terms if it had succeed Elionwy was the first Disney girl power heroine Since it did not well As a result Ariel was the FIRST GIRL Powered heroine (She saved Eric Twice among other things) ALSO NO CLIPS FROM THE READERS DIGEST LITTLE MERMAID FILM? NO CLIPS FROM JEAN COUCTEU'S B$ b No Linda Hamilton? Shelly Duval' Fairy Tale Theater? Japanese Animated versions? NO CLIPS FROM HAPPILY EVER AFTER STORIES FOR EVERY CHILD?

Once Upon a Time's Prince Charming, which you just showed at the start of Snow White's entry fixes that problem you have with the character. Please don't contradict yourself with clips that answers your own questions. And Snow White was never a corpse, she was in an Enchanted sleep. If she was really dead her body would have started to rot away soon after without preservation.

don't care if Johnny Depp is a wolf, that girl has NO REASON to scream at wolfish Johnny Depp. It's JOHNNY DEPP! XD: 'D
My fav Disney characters when I was growing up were all the 'rebels' and free spirits like Pocahontas, Esmeralda (from The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and Mulan: D

Snow Whit edoesn't belong on a top ten list like this. Sure it's a good movie but there are tons of better Disney animated female characters than her. Way more than nine. I want to buy the WIR2 Moana doll but it sucks she's packaged with Snow White.

For me it's a tie between Snow White and Beauty (Belle) by the way there was no Stockholm syndrome. She willingly chose to let the beast kill her to save her father's life but the beast chose to spare her life because she was so beautiful and selfless.
reply

It's not so romantic because the king is made to believe he ate his own children
Really? THAT'S why it's not so romantic? How bout the fact that he only had those children cause he RAPED an unconscious girl in the first place.

Faerie Tale Theatre and Disney was my whole childhood, I was so excited to see them both included in this! The Little Mermaid has been my favorite fairy tale ever since I first heard it read to me by my grandmother.

Cinderella and Mermaid wins for me. Honorable mentions: Beauty/Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. I loved Jasmine too. I grew up on these girls.
reply

160: Pretty obvious Cinderella takes first place. Cinderella has 20 different versions of this iconic fairytale even being Walt Disneys favorite Princess
reply

The Prince from Snow White: In my defense, I just thought she was in a coma
The Seven Dwarfs: .and this helps your case HOW exactly?
