You must remember these classic movie songs. For this list, well be looking at the best use of tracks in films released between 1930 and 1969, inclusively. Our countdown includes The Grapes of Wrath, Goldfinger, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and more! Did we forget a favorite song of YOURS?

I expected Over the Rainbow to be no. one, and was surprised to find the song to be left out. Of course, As Time Goes by should be put on the list.
But it seems a little weird to see Zarathustra as a classic movie song. You regarded Kubrick too much. The song in 'Path to Glory' is a real catchy one? I'd rather select High Noon, Singing in the Rain or any great other songs except Kubrick's movie ost songs.

Personally, I think that the theme from The Bridge on the River Kwai is worth a mention for this list. The men whistling as they march along is a great symbol for the discipline the British officers were trying to maintain, despite their status as POWs.
Granted, the movie didnt age well, but the song in the context of the movie is pretty powerful.

The Sound of Silence. Uh, yeah? Romantic comedy? Really? This was the song that played when Benjamin was literally stalking Mrs. Robinson's daughter. Watch this movie in 2023 and you'll see how truly creepy it is. While it might have been a touchstone of the 60s, alienated obsession and stalking from today's perspective is just plain sick

Alright for those whose ears are clogged, The Wizard of Oz is considered a musical, so Somewhere Over The Rainbow would not be included on this list, since the narrator said at the beginning that no songs from musicals would be included.

These were weird picks. What about Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Falling in Love Again by Marlene Dietrich, The Man that Got Away, Put the Blame on Mame by Rita Heyworth, and Top Hat!

Marilyn was pregnant there during that song. She lost that baby sadly and again I think this should be higher on list also never forget Elvis used the 2001 theme for every time he stepped out on stage

Goldfinger won the Oscar one year after Moon River - and when you hear them against each other --- Mooooooon RI -ver and Goooold FI-nger are way too close for comfort.

I would love for MsMojo to do a dream casting for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo now that they have a director. They seem to do a lot of Classic Hollywood lists recently.

Interesting selection of songs. Where is Over the Rainbow Where is Born Free You seem to have missed two of the most famous songs in the 20th century! Disappointed

I like your choices. When I think of classic songs I always think of musicals. Your list was very refreshing. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
reply

Good choices. You could've gone for 20 songs or even 50 and there would still be great songs you'd still need leave off the list.
reply

Goldfinger is still one of, if not the greatest Bond song in existence. No one can belt it out like Shirley Bassey.
reply

you should distinguish between songs written for the movie and existing ones used when the audience would already know them

I thought The wizard of oz's song (I can't remember its name) would be in number 1. But it's not even in the list: (

Despite a lot of shadiness, Classic Hollywood put out a lot of greatness with its movies, including its songs

Henry Mancini had a difficult time writing Moon River because Audrey Hepburn had such a limited vocal range.

Some like it hot is one of my favorite Marilyn Monroe movies. I like the song I wanna be loved by you
reply

I thought Somewhere over the Rainbow was gonna be number 1, due to how popular The Wizard of Oz is.
reply

Marilyn's number is great, but I preferred her version of I'm Through With Love from the same film.
