I want to apologize to the lord. I want to apologize for scoffing at his words. I was born with Cerebral Palsy. As a teenager, I wanted to star on a show on Nickelodeon to improve my social inclusion. My heart was so corrupted by my own greed and envy It never occurred to me that the people who made me laugh in my favorite TV shows were hiding their pain in their eyes, and the sadness behind their smiles. I want to recover from my trauma. These actors want to recover from their trauma too. I finally understand it. I finally understand that I’m graduating in my late 20’s because this is all part of God’s timing. Only God knows when I’ll be married, when I’ll have a great social life, and when my career will begin. I just have to keep trusting him.
My prayers go out to Drake Bell. Hearing him talking about these horrible things was never going to be easy. However, I hope what Drake did with his bravery can help other actors speak up about any personal misconduct. Drake Bell really did prove to me that when it comes to being a TV star, there is a sense of darkness, that even the bright lights of Hollywood can never hide.

I honestly am a bit dissapointed it was Disney and it was so Nickelodeon and Disney focused a) For companies that are usually so stick up their you know what! to save any smidge of face they haven't lost yet. it's like hypocriticlly as heck. b) While, all of that HISTORY since Shirley Temple and earlier is maybe itnresting (because I too wondered Where was the beginning) I'd loved to hear from some Child-Stars outside of these 2 comglomerates who somehow managed it to not SNAP into Addiction- and Mentla Health crap or if they did, that their familie background was supportive and could get the help they need with seems not unsually Disney-&-Nickelodeon Parents aren't always metnally, financially able to do for their Offsprings as well.
Like Why only show the ones who went THROUGH IT! when rare, even extremely rare but others may also exist per Generation

My take on it is like most things people find shocking is why. This is not the first time these issues have been raised yet it continues to happen. And people still get shocked is beyond me. The shock will come when something is finally done, and you will have a child star talk about how fun it was to be one. We repeat cycles of distress in everything and never make corrections or learn lessons because if we did, we would not be horrified of the mistreatment of children in 2024 when child actors in the 1900s experienced similar fates. Nothing was revealed more stories were highlighted and added to the already long list in an industry that is greedy for money and always has been and always will be.

I was in so much pain during my teen years; I joined the drama department in my high school, and it completely changed me. I wasn't sleeping, I was failing a lot of my classes, and, because my father refused to let me change schools, I took up binge-drinking to cope, ultimately attempting to take my own life twice. So often, I am called out for supposed crazy behavior from those days, and, while I a hundred percent believe it happened, I can hardly remember those years, due to blacking out from the drinking, and just mentally blocking out the rest. It's been twelve years since I graduated high school, but I am still haunted by what I do remember, and constantly have nightmares about having to go back.

The bottom line is this. Every child you see in this documentary with the exception of maybe Keenan had a crap fest foundation at home. They all had crappy home lives and that's where the problem and that's this industry preys on. It's because they know these kids are hungry and they and their families are looking for a way out which in turn just exacerbates the problem. They had no structure and nobody in their corner from jump.

Wow, earth-shattering. Who would have thought that putting children in adult situations was a bad idea And I don't wanna hear how no one knew in the 80's when child-centered shows were taking off that being a child star can very likely turn you into a train wreck, b/c they DID. I'm old and adult people in that time period were well aware but did it anyway. And that INCLUDES these children's parents.

Such aspects of child stardom aren't new at all; it's just that when the advent of social media finally came to be, it further complicated and compromised the natural order of child stars, especially through puberty. I continue to extend my respect to Demi, Alyson and the others in this documentary to giving young entertainers the proper safe spaces that are so important.

Alyson and Demi should remember beauty has no size they look good no matter what. And non famous people experience it as well I’ve had people call me chubby and I wished to be skinnier but I learned to love myself for who I am. Producers should have back then and still need to now focus on talent and stop setting expectations for appearance.
reply

Thanks for addressing child influencers since they don’t have the ability to consent and don’t want to be filmed. In most cases, their lives will never be normal, everything about them will be shared with the world, and they will be bullied online and in public and targeted by dangerous people
reply

Ugh I’m sorry but ever since Demi lovato punched her backup dancer and being a terrible friend to Selena Gomez i can’t stand her anymore that’s why I didn’t watch this documentary! She literally called a froyo shop diet vultures and then refused to apologize to them!
reply

I am so proud of Demi, Alyson and other child stars for being brave enough to share their past traumas. I know that if I ever had children, I would want them to have a childhood, first and foremost, and not go through all of that damaging trauma.
reply

Those who bullied Demi at school should be ashamed of themselves. Instead of lifting her up they saw weakness and tore her down. Bullies need to learn to get a life and stop thinking that hurting others makes them powerful.
reply

I'm glad Demi Lovato. made this documentary with other Child Stars. It's imported tell how brutal this Hollywood industry is still making awful things to these young stars. Now we need to help the next one's for going threw this.
reply

I love all of these actors. Its really sad what all of them have been through, and I wamt to give them all a huge hug for being so strong, and getting through it all.
reply

I just watched it yesterday and between this and Quiet on Set, 2024 is the year to bring change towards the treatment and better working conditions for child stars.
reply

Do we need to apologise to these actors for enjoying their work or do we accept the final product as flawless but understand that it wasn’t to make it
reply

As someone that grew up watching these amazing people, I am SO proud of every single one for speaking up and telling their stories! they're so strong
reply

Now that I think about it maybe that's one of the reasons there was a Nickelodeon Studios in Florida was because it didn't follow the Coogan act.
reply
