Hello here, so i've been quite a fan of old movies and i'm still exploring them! i wanted to ask, if anyone knows this movie's title by chance. I watched it by accident only once, and it was quite old production, so i don't remember any of the actors/actresses names sadly.
So what i remember, It's romantic/comedy genre in 40s-50s, based on group of friends who are high in society(having banquets, birthday parties, and Dancing balls)
There's this one pretty, rich girl who's literally down to earth for one specific boy, but he doesn't quite like her. And there's this girl's so called friend I think his name was Brandon or Brady, who he adores her so much, but she doesn't pay any attention to him at all till the end. And he also sometimes teases her, and she never takes him seriously, because of his silly actions.
Please if anyone does know it or have heard of it, reply to me, i would really appreciate it!
Greetings from Georgia

From Here to Eternity; The Sound of Music; Now, Voyager; The King and I; South Pacific; Notorious; Rebecca; The Shop Around the Corner; An Affair to Remember
There are so many great romance movies from that time span that it's impossible to grab them all. Audrey Hepburn is great, but you could have tossed one of her flicks out (the fantastic My Fair Lady. The movie with arguably the most romantic scene ever is missing - Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster kissing in the Hawaiian surf, in From Here to Eternity - a movie which holds up surprisingly well.

In my opinion:
1) Casablanca (1942)
2) West Side Story (1961)
3) The Philadelphia story (1940)
4) Singin in the rain (1952)
5) Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
6) From here to eternity (1953)
7) Roman Holiday (1953)
8) Doctor Zhivago (1965)
9) Brief Encounter (1945)
10) The Graduate (1967)
Honorable mentions:
The Apartment (1960)
It happened one night (1934)
The umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964)
Pillow Talk (1959)
Marty (1955)

Marty is an absolute favorite of mine, because its such a down-to-earth, slice-of-life kind of film about a man who thinks hes a loser who suddenly stands up for himself and finds someone who makes him happy and he makes her happy too. Romance films about people whore lonely and miserable suddenly finding love does give me a warm feeling that anyone can find love and happiness in their lives. You just gotta learn to love yourself first.

The Graduate! Are you crazy! That is a quintessential anti-romance film! Did no one see 500 Days of Summer! Should've done either Marty or The Apartment. THOSE are great love stories!
Also, while Audrey Hepburn made many great romantic films, her films should've been limited to 1 or 2 or given a list of her own. Overall, the list was better than I expected, considering not very many people are very familiar with classic films.

Can anyone tell me the name of a movie that had a European princess fall in love with a USA general and they move back to the USA and his family hates her. They have a daughter but then he dies and shes Left as a single mother and makes her way through life as a model and gets remarried and has another child but then passes away.
reply

Not a bad Top Ten, but perhaps you should consider making a second video. Start with: In the Good Ol' Summertime, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Portrait of Jennie, The Bishop's Wife, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Quiet Man, An Affair to Remember, The Shop Around the Corner, The Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, etc.

The Graduate is a social satire and the movie version of My Fair Lady is far more about companionship than romance.
No mention though of Random Harvest, Now, Voyager, Dark Victory, Sunday in the park, Pillow talk, An Affair To Remember, The African Queen, The Shop Around The Corner, Camille or Gigi?

reply

Not that good of a list.
Vertigo, the apartment, notorious, all should have been here.
And the apartment especially, it's a disgrace that it's not on this list, the other 2 that I mentioned are also mystery movies, so I could pass for that, but the apartment HAS to be here

reply

A Place in the Sun should have definitely been on this list. One of the most famous kisses in movies and a beautiful story and 2 talented and beautiful actors giving amazing performances. Should have been here. You

Breakfast at Tiffany's is NOT a romance! Are you crazy! It's about a couple of hookers. seriously! Get a grip mojo. You need to do some research. Truman Capote wrote this. this list is a mess.

Why have I only seen so far three of the films from this list if You count honorable Mentions? I would like to watch the rest as well. They are without a doubt brilliant, classic and iconic.
reply

The Graduate is one of my favorite movies of all-time. and it is horribly out of place on this list. This is a cynical movie about growing up, not a damn romance!

This was a great list. But Marty and The Apartment should have been more than honorable mentions. Those are two of my all time favorite movies.
reply

The graduate? At the end you can see them on the bus looking away questioning whether they made a mistake. Not very romantic.
reply

Yes! My family member named his daughter Ingrid after Ingrid Bergman. My favorite movie of Humphrey.
