i didn't like it, it really glamorizes suicide, something that is really very serious and makes it seem like a plausible way to get revenge and make the people around you pay the price for something that you and your family ultimately suffer because of. Some of the people that Hanna blamed were people who were her friends and they would ultimately have to live the rest of their lives with the guilt of her passing.
13 Reasons Why is a show that is mainly angled towards teens and young people and as a young person myself I think it is sending out a terrible message to people about mental health and how to deal with the more difficult aspects of teenage life. Which is atrocious considering how difficult life these days already is for teens.
Yes, people should make an effort to be nicer to one another but is it really your fault if someone close to you commits suicide? of course not! It was their decision and it's not something you should blame yourself for.
Mental illness is a very serious issue that should be addressed properly not by over-dramatized popular culture. 13 reasons why glamorizes and romanticizes suicide and makes it seem that Hannah took her life in her own hands by killing herself. this is not how you take control of your life if you suffer from mental illness. in the show Hannah thinks that she's a burden and that is why she doesn't turn to anyone and suggesting that in such a glamorous/first world problem/over dramatized premises is insensitive to families who have experienced the tragedy.
The whole reason she kills herself is to seek revenge on those who wronged her. this isn't a message that should be given to teenagers. killing yourself is not a form of revenge. you are ultimately the one who suffers the consequences and even for the friends in the end the guilt trip gets so serious that it is implied that another character has commit suicide.
And as for Hanna, There is always another option when it comes to changing the way you live your life for the better. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO TURN YOUR LIFE AROUND! and I think that this show (and book) in some ways both justifies suicide and gives changing your life for the better an expiration date. Yes, the people around her paid the price for her death but they will still go one living their lives but she, the one who died, is gone and has robbed herself of the opportunity and the possibility of a bright future.
Happiness comes from within and is found in the present moment by making peace with the past.
Just food for thought

NOOOO dont call clay as one of em plz seriously! just look at his so innocent face how on earth u can call him a reason. she clearly says in the tape that he was a a person to be in the list. like he cane read minds maan. she got psychapthic at the ending by everthing so far happend to her. thats just why she told him to eave and acted strange that night. its more like she her self should replay clay in the tapes. clay totally totally DOES NOT belong to be a reason.

I don't understand why people commit suicide. Yea I know Hannah's been through a lot especially the rape but come on. Think about the after math. You'll leave your parents and loved ones hurt after you commit suicide.
P. S it's only high school so you cans live past that. You might not see those people ever again in your life.
I can understand the rape might scar you for a while, but no need to give your life because of it.

I think also the fact that Hannah at the end witnessed her former best friend being raped and didn't do anything to stop it, and not reporting the fallen stop sign in time to prevent a car crash and death, losing Clay, the one person that was nice to her (in her eyes she thought she lost him) on top of that being raped herself really drove her over the edge at the end.

You see all these episodes were released all in one go. And I have a theory that it's related to the story because like Alex, he listened to all the tapes in one night but Clay took such a Long time to finish listening to all of it cus it affected him so much. Which is the same way different people feel about and wanna watch the movie

I love the TV show adaptation of this book, but I don't know if I want a sequel or not. The book ended with Hannah's 13 tapes; that's it. I feel like if they make a season 2, they might ruin it. but, the cast members are fantastic and it would be such a waste of talent if they didn't get to film more. I've never been so conflicted!

just a heads up for anyone whos saying why is the focus on selena, you guys wouldnt have gotten the show the way you got them if selena did not buy the rights for it long ago and put efforts towards making this alongside a great team. she has a big hand in it so of course much of the spotlight will be on her as it should be.

Oh my god what it's based on a best selling novel that wasn't said on any of the promotional pictures. It only said based on a best selling mystery that's been out for ten years I would've never guessed.
That was all sarcasm by the way.

Not really a fan of the book, it's her parents fault they weren't involved with there teenage daughters life. And it seemed she wanted the last few things to happen to push over the edge, and too many difference book for show.

It was Alex in the ambulance because when Mr. Mr. porter was listening to the last tape someone came in and said Alex Standall got shot in the head and before in the ambulance they said that they got shot in the head

I just finished this series and it is very very deep but I think it sends a good message to be aware of how the things you do and say can affect people.

Thirteen reasons was a cracking series. I stayed up till 2 am in the morning with my girlfriend watching the last 5 episodes and it killed us!

the thing that bothered me about the show is beside the actor for clay and tyler, none of the actors look like believable high school students

Me: Hey Mom! Can I have some cash? I'm going to the mall.
Mom: No! I don't have money and you know it
Me: Welcome to your tape.

This series is why I didn't do well in my tests. No regrets though Hannah, Jeff, Alex, Clay, and Tony deserved better.

Please read the book it is far superior. Netflix ruined a great book by changing it up to push their left wing garbage.
