Pyre: First 20 Minutes of Gameplay from Supergiant's New Game

The creators of Bastion and Transistor revealed their new game at this year's PAX East: Pyre, from Supergiant Games Booo Polygon, but hooray Supergiant.
I only hope that they can make this game a little harder than Transistor was. I adored Transistor, truly. I played through it many times, I thought the mechanics were near perfect. It didnt even bother me that it was short - there is replayability in these games. Its just it was too easy to 100% complete Transistor. The tests got hard, but the replay option you have to play the game with all the skills and levels you got on the first playthrough was way too easy. I think they underestimate how quickly people beat the learning curve, and whats so great about Transistor is that theres a million different ways to mold your playstyle. If only they could have had a difficulty level where you legitimately had to tailor your power build specifically for different fights. Instead, if felt like once you had found an effective rotation/build (although it seems like there are countless viable builds, you could use that same build throughout the whole game.
This looks like its doing things right. I just hope they have an insane difficulty level or something along those lines to continuously give me a challenge. Both Bastion and Transistor were games I couldnt rip myself away from while I was playing, and after having both completed the campaign as well as got as many achievements as I could, was left wanting much much more. Even if its just using the same mechanics against the same enemies but just at a higher difficulty. Anything.\r\n

I love the hypertext style dialog and narration. I mix up names in things constantly, and when I read or hear characters talking about other characters I can easily get lost. The hypertext is a fairly elegant way to help me keep names attached to faces and personalities while also giving me exposition without awkward -as you know- lines of dialog.

Hurts to say this, but the gameplay is really bland in comparison with the last two titles. I got to play it at PAX, and it just felt like a series of minigames in between the story. Similar in feel to Transistor, except without any of the fun parts. Really hoping I'm surprised on release, but it doesn't seem likely.

loving the emphasis on exposition this time around! almost gave the vibe of reading a good book, and i wouldnt be surprised if that was intended haha
can't wait to see more! judging from the optional dialogue, you'll get to know these characters really well throughout the game

I've never not liked a game by super giant games, i'd say Bastion is probably my all time favourite game, but i really dont like the concept of this game, i was never a fan of -The Banner Saga- like games, which this game resembles a lot.

I'm a little disappointed with the lack of a narrator like Transistor or Bastion. But I can appreciate that Supergiant is trying something new and not just sticking to what they've always done.

All i could think of is how her horns look different with the mask off than with the mask on! And who the hell is playing this game, a 5 year old?
reply

Hard to choose a favorite character just by watching the gameplay.
But if I were to choose, brobably the big lady with the horns.
No reason.

the gameplay could actually be used for an mmo IMO, it seems like it would work really great once more units and other elements get involved!

The feel when your favorite game studio says -who you found clinging to life- instead of -whom you found clinging to life-; -;

I really like the music, started out more like Bastion, then had a beat like from Transistor, and then it's kind of a fusion.

Its a game from Supergiant. If their last two games are an indicator, Pyre is going to be great. I expect no less.

OMG voice actor at 5: 20. is the same guy who voices those green heads in the medievil game? They sound the exact same!

The narrator sounds like Discord from MLP (John De Lancie, or Ish from The Magic Circle (James Urbaniak?

Chris Saphire's voice just makes me love Hedwyn even more. I hope they get Sunkrish Bala in on this one, too
