Brian Crecente went hands on at PAX East with Ruiner, the cyberpunk action shooter inspired by anime like Ghost in the Shell and Akira and games like Hotline Miami. Our verdict: it's as unforgiving as it is beautiful

most of the demo i was screaming at the player: -why arent you doing normal dashes and shield to defend yourself? what about that cool charge from the tutorial? why arent you slicing enemies twice to kill them but only once? you keep trying to pause dash between enemies when its clearly not workibg for you? -.
then it became soooo obvious when suddenly, at 22: 30, soneone else too over the mouse. probably a dev, and started playing the way i imagined the game oughtta be played.
man, this looks amazing. most impressive isometric game ive ever seen.
gameplay is so much like hyper light drifter in all the good ways. funny, because im sure they were developed in parallel all these years.
this gane looks really good. i hope for a close release date.

I'm having a hard time describing this game to myself. From the video, it feels like if Hotline Miami decided to be more forgiving in terms of the amount of hits players could take, but also played a bit of Transistor and stole part of that game's Turn) mechanic. However, the enemies also have the same dash mechanic as the player, so it's like if the dude from Hyper Light Drifter had to fight themselves.
What I am certain of, though, is of this game's potential to last a bit longer beyond its aesthetic. Hopefully, I get to mess around with this soon. The mechanics seem to allow for a tactical flow most top-down shooters lack.

looks great, i can't say to much because i don't play this. But i dare to give critic for this video, i see one-dimensional fun. If this game does not have a high-intellectual-obstacles that will be just a one-week-game who will be forgotten after 2 days. Playfulness and grafic is awesome but i see just a very shallow fun. If this game wants to be remembered needs to provide much more than shooting for nothing.

I love the look of this game and I'm dying to play it, BUT I hate the back paddling. The dude playing here was Constantly being fought back/ pushed back by the enemy. I hope the game has ways to push forward to keep a forward momentum.

Love the style, love the music, love the story, gameplay, everything. Can't wait for this. The protagonist reminds me of a character design I made awhile back and Venom Snake.

A bit of a letdown to me, I was not expecting the top down generic action, was hoping for more of a 3rd person shooter + character action style gameplay.

Game looks unreal, but whoever was playing was embarrassingly bad. Game tells him to shield, he doesnt get shot in the face, then hits the shield.

More of cyberpunk shooter games is needed. I love the gameplay ( sounds a bit hard to handle but maybe i'll try this out on Xbox One )

It looks brutal because that player is garbage. lots of frantic button mashing. :/
Games looks like it has potential though.

Lol the whole time I'm like -wow this is a isometric hotline Miami- and sure enough I look up the developer and its devolved lol

This game looks, sounds and plays great. As for the person playing all I have to say is -Git- -Gud- -or- -Git Off-

I just love the look and sound of this game, not a fan of isometric shooters but I'm gonna give this one a shot.

USE SHIELD or USE GRENADE written in gigantic caps in the middle screen and the player still barely use them.
