I felt the same way about my Unfezant and Archeops in my (non-Nuzlocke) playthrough of Black! Given the personalities I envisioned for them, I pictured Breezy (the Unfezant) being kind of a big brother mentor to Screech (the Archeops) and teaching him how to sing so that he'll find a mate.

The dogs were really strong bc their ability gives them a big Defense boost, in exchange for a fire weakness. Special and fire attacks would have been more effective. That's the reason.
