I kind of had a similar experience a week ago. I had a moment of weakness and let some of past Nintendo mistakes get to me.
I even attempted to cancel my Switch preorder but changed my mind at the last second. Seeing the indies reveals this week and finally getting my hands on the Switch & Breath of the Wild, I'm so glad I didn't follow through with cancelling the preorder.
Everything just -clicks- with this system. It's amazing how I can play a game on TV at home, go to work and continue where I left off during my break time, then return home and resume playing on a TV.
I am primarily a PC gamer so I wouldn't miss some third-party games, but would love for them to come to Switch. It's also change my approach to indies. Instead of trying them out on Steam, I much rather play these on the Switch.
Despite some lingering issues, I think Nintendo has a hit on their hands and it's refreshing way to make a comeback.

I wholeheartedly agree Nick. I'm pretty invested in the Playstation ecosystem. All my friends are there, I enjoy going for trophies if I really enjoy the games and so on. However, knowing that the Switch is in a position to become an indie game magnet, capable of doing both TV and portable play, is so incredibly appealing that I find myself also getting ready to buy Sonic Mania, Yooka-Laylee, Steamworld Dig 2, Celeste and a bunch of other multi-platform games on the Switch.
I felt this way as we approached release, and now, having finally gotten my hands on the Switch today, and having played a bunch of Zelda and familiarising myself with the console, I feel even stronger about that.

I always feel conflicted when deciding to buy a Nintendo Home console. The main issue is third party support, Nintendo has a terrible track record with indies and triple A tittles which cannot ran in their console because of physical limitation or good Indy support. As result, they are essentially a Nintendo -only- console and that is problem when first party games only slowly rollout every six month.
I cannot invest, in good conscience, 300 USD while knowing that console will literally gather dust.
Personally, I'll wait for a price drop or I will buy a Wii U for Zelda and the other first party games.

The prospect of stuff like Thumper on the Switch, a game that doesn't -feel- like a Nintendo game and potentially others like it, is the only thing that has me kind of tempted to by the Switch. It's a well-priced console with a lot of potential.
But then, I'm a PC gamer and the idea of paying console game prices is weirdly untenable after about 3 or 4 years of being PC-only. It's a big wait and see for me, but a more hopeful one than with any other Nintendo platform as of late.

This made me think: why isn't there a functional handheld device that just is a screen and a controller that can stream PC games around the house? It seems like a market that's missing hardware. Things like the Steam Link still feel really grounded in -this is for your living room- instead of a house-wide extension to your PC.
Because, I'm not getting a Switch for Zelda and Mario when I can play every other game on my PC. But I sure would like to add a bit more portability to my PC.

I agree though I'll go a step farther- there are Indie games I will buy that I would (and do) pass up that I would consider buying if they were on the Switch. Like that recent release Night in the Woods. I'm not going to buy that if I have to turn on my PS4 everytime I want to play it, but I'd buy it on the Switch for sure. I'll probably buy Enter the Gungeon, which I passed on previously, because that seems like a good game to play idly while watching an Unprofesh or whatever.

This portability aspect is the major reason for me. I mean, I do most of my gaming on my 3ds right now. Before, I was all about getting any multiplatform games on PC, because I'll always have a PC, but now it's all about portability. I want to have my games with me everywhere. On top of that, some of the Switch games may have two players that may just use one joycon, so you're always ready to play two player games whenever you want.

You finally understand one of the the reasons of what the Switch is all about when compared to other consoles!
Hopefully, the Switch will do the local multi-player games well too. Imagine when you go to your friend's parties and bring your own Switch to compete against people! Yup, that's the feature other consoles and even the PC (laptops/tablets) will have a hard time to beat against the Nintendo Switch

I've been on the fence about the Switch for a while so I'm glad you made this video and shared your hesitations about it. I think a lot of people were feeling the same way but you made a great point about portability: why NOT just get a version that can go where I go? And it's great that 3rd part devs can easily work with the Switch. Great video content, you beautiful boy

This is a good point you bring up in terms of adding value to the system. By doubling as a portable/home console it does add that question of: Well wouldn't it be easier/a better buy to get this on Switch? Being able to take your games with you wherever (esp. if you travel/commute a lot) is a huge deal for people like me. I hadn't thought of it that way, thanks Nick.

Wait a minute where have you been? Nintendo's Indie scene has been great since the Wii U. Nintendo created an awesome space for Indies. They created the Nindie platform to help Indie devs and the Wii U has enjoy a very healthy Indie relationship. So if you're surprised that the Switch is getting alot of Indie games you simply haven't been paying any kind of attention.

if you have a WiiU save your money and buy Zelda on the old console. I'm playing it right now and it's great. Will wait till there are at least a couple game titles I want and a most light holiday discount. I can also see if this is plays out good or dies after the inital hype and the realisation there's nothing exclusive to play.

I'm playing Zelda on the WiiU, the game mechanics are the same as the Switch, but the graphics are not as good.
I'm okay with this, because my PC has better graphics than the Switch, and so if I was to only buy consoles based on horsepower, I'd be disappointed.
Eventually I'll get a Switch, when the bundles drop.

You make a great point Nick and as purely a value proposition, the Switch makes a lot of sense. The real bet is whether or not the games will come. Only a little bit of time will tell, so I bet there are a decent number of people waiting 6-12 months before picking one up (and hoping for a price-drop.

I was kind of worried about having hardly any games for my switch but I'm feeling more confident seeing this, definitely want to look at snake pass and I backed yooka-laylee, now if only you could go make Nintendo dispatch my order that should have been here yesterday: (
I can't wait!

My lovely partner bought the switch today & we've been having a great time with Zelda already. All yesterday I kept asking him -what day is it? -. He would reply that -it's merry switchmas eve, madam! - like in a Christmas Carol. (P. S. Snipperclips is very cute & fun)

When I saw Yooka-Laylee was coming out on Switch, I paused just like you did and did the same math on how much more fun it would be to have it portable. With all these hardware issues popping up, I'm desperate for good signs. I hope it pans out for both of us.

100% with you on this Nick. Finally getting into Shovel Knight on Switch after having it sit on my PS4 for years unplayed. Because I can take it anywhere and it looks great. Already changed my Yooka Laylee preorder, and will definitely get Sonic for Switch.

I agree 100% with what you're saying Nick and it definitely comes down to the question, -Will this game run as well as any other platform? - Because as long as the games run well consistently, there's certainly no reason to not get a portable version.

the lack of launch games has me in a weird spot with the switch. i feel like most people will probably wait until discounts and bundles come out in a few months because the switch doesn't seem like a console that is critical to own on day one

Dude how much SWD2 did you get to play? Honestly, that's one of the main reasons I'm getting a Switch (alongside Zelda obvi. I really enjoyed this video. Pretty much sums up the collective consciousness surrounding the Switch.

Imagine being able to play Stardew Valley wherever you want. I think your points about the Switch's portability and adaptability are dead on, and it's why I'm happy Nintendo aren't just making a PS4 with Nintendo games.

I spend so much time between classes at college doing nothing, or waiting for this or that while I'm out, I can totally see the appeal of buying the switch as a PC gamer who wants the best portable gaming has to offer.

I'm very hype for Sonic Mania - I honestly haven't played a Sonic game since 1 and 2, but everything you've shown from Mania looks amazing. I think I'll definitely get it for the Switch.

Totally agree with Nick here, I was able to get Playtonic to change my KS reward to Switch from PS4. The indie push is promising, I just hope that they are able to follow through.

Reggie you listening to this, this kind soft boy is telling you how to sell your console. But seriously, Nick you're making the best argument for the switch IF Nintendo doesn't blow it.

People called me crazy but I would rebuy FFXV or Persona 5 if SQE/Atlus would surprise me by releasing it on Switch TBH. The graphic would be worse, but portability would win here.

Wii U didn't have good third party AAA support, but it had good indie support right? It's possible I'm remembering incorrectly.
Either way I'm also pumped for indies on Switch!
