ok fine it all started with imaging a tempest stand up cabinet &
it was Polybios game machine emulator NOT Polybius & it was
made from a tempest stand up cabinet stripped of the art work
& was supposed to run any game you could get the rom out of,
place the rom in the reader & it dumped the image to the HDD
then a boot up menu could be launched & start any game rom
as it was a hacked pentium pro & PowerPC system bridged
poorly& the 50/60 hz synked bootleg roms made user puke

thank you for reminding of the name of a show ive been referencing for 20 years. i havent been able to eat or think about fried rice without hearing the character from fighting foodons excitedly shouting -fried ricer! - in my head or silently to myself. i just couldnt remember the name of the show until watching this video.

I really didn't find the game that addictive, or fun for that matter. You basically went around the screen collecting dots by stealing them from other groups. The game was over when you had all the dots. We still have similar games today. Don't have any amnesia that I'm aware of.

Its not too hard to believe something like this could have happened though, after you find out that MK: Ultra was real. Could have been that this all started with people whom the -researchers- dosed with LSD and their bad trip probably ended up with them in arcade.

Do a bit more digging and you'll find the Cube Quest seems more likely to be the source of the Polybius. Psychedelic visuals, Tempest clone, made people sick, then disappeared into obscurity.

I enjoyed the brief moment of Jeff Minter's (Llamasoft) POLYBIUS in the opening.
That one is real and it is, like many of Minter's other works, a psychedelic trip in videogame form.
