1. Simone estimated the Red Howler monkey to be about the size of a Siamang, a species of gibbon native to Southeast Asia and known for their loud whooping vocalizations. At the largest zoo in the PNW (which Simone probably grew up visiting, they don't have howler monkeys, but they -do- have an enclosure of siamangs, which young visitors often colloquially refer to as -howler monkeys-. I'm not saying that the seeds for her blunder had been planted since childhood, but it's /possible/.
2. You know this is a Very Old Game when they name one of the African regions -Rhodesia-.

Huh. The way this game works reminds me of -America- which unsurprisingly is by the same designer.
Except that game has countless different trivia topics, just all American.
When I played with my mom, we first played one round with trivia about pie. When we went to the next round, another topic, my mom was relieved and said -Oh, I thought this was a trivia game about pie! - and I said -No, it's many topics - they wouldn't make this game and just quiz you on the same topic over and over. .. - so now I'm seeing this game Fauna and my eyes are darting to the camera and back.

Interesting fact about the red lionfish, while they are indeed native to the Indo-Pacific oceans, you can find them as an invasive species in the Bahamas, East Coast US, and even the eastern Mediterranean! They wreak havoc on aquatic flora outside of their native habitat, and they can get really out of control with no predators, and strip an entire area of seafloor clean of plant life! However, it's super easy to get a license to scuba spearfish them (at least in the Bahamas, and you can get some tasty fish while helping the local ecosystem!

This video was so infuriating haha. Yes, the lack of animal knowledge. But also Tina's inability to pronounce literally anything -
It must be a generational thing, because who hasn't seen the 1995 classic, Piranha, often contained in a box set with 1997's Anaconda?
But also, in 1st grade we were doing a project on the Amazon and I was in charge of the South American Tapir. So I figured that Malayan one couldn't be much different, so that whole round what so much anticipation of the truth coming out.

No offense to the ppl who created this game bc I think it's a lovely concept but I also feel it has very limited replayability, as most trivia games.
Bc it's like, after a couple of times you're gonna know the answers at least closely enough to be able to reliabily get points. You might argue -but who cares enough to actually remember the animal facts- to which I say, why would you buy an animal fact game if you don't care about animal facts?

So legitimate question if anyone who knows the board game industry feels like answering: how would one go about acquiring, refreshing, and reprinting this IP? I could see updating some of the weird colonialist -region- language in here, maybe tweaking a few of the gameplay mechanics (what if you could add an invasive vs. native mechanic? update the fauna box to an app to have never-ending new animal cards so you never repeat any) and Kickstarting this.

Pat! Marshes and bogs are distinct types of wetlands! Marshes are dominated by herbaceous plants, rather than woody plants (like a swamp) or peat-forming plants (like bogs or fens! Bogs are full of peat, and are fed primarily by rainwater and are therefore acidic and nutrient-poor environments, unlike fens which are fed primarily by ground water and exhibit a wider range of water qualities!

A mythology monster hunting version of this could be fun for kids in that awkward phase where they've temporarily aged out of thinking animals are cool.
If you were to spoooky up the map, change the weight, length, and tail length scales to something like how old the monster is, how dangerous it is, and what its weakness is, then I'd say you'd have a fun older kids game on your hands.

oh i thought everyone in the comments talking about how much pain this would bring to actual animal lovers were on the same page as me wrt The Dodo being a massive pain. They steal videos, spread misinformation, and are anti-zoo but post lots of exotic pet videos and glorify the owners' unsafe practices. but uh. hope y'all had fun with your board game.

not even half way through watching yet but already can tell this vid is gonna slot itself in the Top 3 Simone and Pat Dynamics of All Time for sure. the lack of usual chaos really does a lot to showcase excellent Shared Custody (of the Brain Cell) Power Struggle moments in a way that is truly art to me

This looks like a game I would enjoy, except that I would need to have all the measurements translated into something I have at least a vague understanding of. Watching a bunch of americans not understand their own measurements at the beginning of the video was very rewarding.

Unfortunately, you guys partnering with the Dodo is the last straw and I am unsubscribing. I feel like the video quality has gone down since Jenna was fired, and the Dodo is a a very poorly researched/click-baity organization that spreads misinformation.

I'm so confused about the map labels. The gigantic strip called -Canada- is so ecologically diverse that I don't believe any animal other than small migratory birds exists uniformly across that space lol

Do you know, that panther si actually not an animal? It is a group of animals where most of the big cats belong to like lion or jaguar. Black panter is a black version of these cats, opposite to albino.

I recently re-investigated where lionfish's habitats were now (since they're invasive) because they're a big fear of mine, despite loving the ocean, and it full freaked me out their habitat is so big now

I hope one of you makes a video on the Amazon Trail games? It would be informative, nostalgic, and a good redemption arc for the employee who had never heard of the Amazon River.

The factoid about eating Chameleons is a statistical error.
Chameleons Georg who eats 10, 000 chameleons every night is an outlier and should not have been counted.
