Spider Learns To Ask For High-Fives Little But Fierce Jumping spiders are so cute. How I overcame my fear of spiders was I felt like a worthless piece of crap for killing spiders whenever they were eating the bugs that were actually harassing me. I was killing bugs that were docile just because they were creepy. They werent hurting me; they were minding their own business eating annoying and aggressive bugs. Eventually my conscience was making me feel crippling guilt and I decided to relocate a spider instead of killing it. It was so scared of me, and it was so small and delicate, just a little life. These little creatures were what I was afraid of They are delicate and gentle. They never bit me. To this day I have never been bitten by a spider. I felt so much better relocating them than killing them. I pretty much had a wall of spiders near the sliding door where I work and rather than being afraid of them, I viewed them as protectors. They were my line of defense against horseflies, wasps, mosquitoes, etc.

Roaches and mosquitos get no sanctuary from me, but life whether it's a spider or an ant is precious. My ex wife was very scared of spiders and wanted me to kill the ones she'd find in the house. I did kill several but shortly after, I told her they are just trying to survive on this rock called Earth like we are and there's no benefit to snuffing out their life simply because she had arachnaphobia. If I found spiders, I'd leave them to their own doings. If she found them I'd put them outside. There's simply no benefit to ending a life of something that poses no harm or risk to you without benefit. None of us asked to be brought into this world but it's our responsibility to stay alive once we're here. I never want to view life as anything other than precious and worth protecting.

I have a tarantula, that is used to me, she gives very different responses to other people than with me. She literally comes to me and climbs on me with peace, if it is someone else, she gives a threat stance and gets defensive. I did a test too, let her choose out her enclosure which way she will go, and she allways comes to me. My friends notice this too. I dont handle my t's but this one just wants to come and say hello. Well, it is her choice allways. So i came to conclusion that they truly regonizes you on some level. She is now 16 years old and very beautiful and well being individual Very defensive toward others, but not for me. I dont even use any tools or anything to change her waterdish or cleaning enclosure, she just hangs out and watches carefully what i do.

Jumpers have been studied and found to have cognitive, problem solving skills. Their main two front eyes see just like ours in the same spectrum and give stereoscopic vision as they depend on it to ambush. Interestingly their two main eyes are huge compared to a brain that we'd consider tiny for such an intelligent, curious, friendly spider. Just be glad we are bigger because they're opportunist predators that 'see' anything their size as food, including other jumpers. They'll even take on preying mantises if the right ambush opportunity presents itself (tactically aware) as they have potent venom (harmless to us. They'll also hunt brown recluses so welcome these little guys in your house.

The reason she was struggling to climb was because of repeated exposure to the oils on your skin. After a while they lose the ability to climb certain surfaces. This could hamper their hunting and lead to death. If the spider has been eating too much and the abdomen is huge a fall can split open the abdomen and kill the spider.
I raised these spiders for 17 years in prison in Florida. They are very popular pets in prison. They live about a year in captivity. They act like little dogs. They will even interact and play with you sometimes. But don't let them fool you. The females will sometimes kill the males after mating. And eat them.

Most spiders have terrible eyesight and very limited hunting strategies so, as a result, are simple creatures. Some are more docile or defensive than others but, for the most part, don’t display too much personality. Jumping spiders, though, have great eyesight with a hunting strat that revolves around observation, pattern recognition and path finding, making them much more curious and observant of their surroundings. They’ll even recognize their handlers to a point, identifying hands and faces as non-threatening surfaces to climb if treated carefully. They’re very cute. Child-like in a way.

Yes the definitely have a personality and they don't frighten me at all someone who generally jumps at a lot of bugs I describe it as an ancestral Instinctual fear response that your brain usually gives you because Bugs are quick when you instantly see them you don't know if they are venomous or not Often until it's too late Then when your brain gets a minute to figure out what exactly you're looking at you may understand whether or not you're in danger a little bit better you still might be scared People just generally don't like spiders but these are so freaking adorable

A few fun facts I just found out.
1. They have a sense of memory
2. They sometimes show the ability to count
3. They have the mental awareness of a 1 year old child
4. They have the ability to distinguish between inanimate and living objects.
5. They have low level problem solving abilities
6. Scientificly speaking.
they are absolutely adorable lil eight legged murder cats

Yeah, I love spiders too. I grew up with a healthy respect for them. Never kill a spider, because spiders eat the bugs. So when I bought my house and saw there was a bunch of wolf spiders I was like wow and also I was like this is a new house, what are those spiders eating.
I haven't seen one running across my bedroom wall in a while, but I do enjoy seeing them, because they run and jump.

Over 2 million views That's so cool! Years ago, my neighbor had a Mexican Red Leg named Garfield (orange and black, like the cartoon cat, and he was known for his Kung Foo Fighting, as he would stand up in a sorta ninja stance if you poked at him. He never bit you, never fought, just did his Chuck Norris moves--rather amusing. Great spider, great pet, great spider personality.

That is tragically such a low number for life-span on such a tiny critter that you can't get to fully understand, appreciate and bond with them, unfortunately. This is beautiful and sad on many levels. I love The Dodo! You guys find the best in humanity and share the most amazing bonds with creatures we share this planet with and human beings interacting with them directly.

You are so brave & she was so beautiful! I've had a few opportunities to interact w/ spiders like this & i love talking with them but I've always been too scared to let them touch me. Even last summer there was a grest opportunity like that but i chickened out in the end. I really might end up trying it this year. we'll see if i meet the right lil spidey again!

I once watched a jumping spider in my living room clinging a curved lamp. He'd crawl to the top, then let himself go, and dangle on his line. He wasn't building a web. He'd simply crawl to the top, then let go, as if he was bungee jumping and having a blast. Did it for about 30 minutes before he finally moved along. It was hilarious.

I totally agree! I was scared of spider more than anything! Then one day I saw video of cute jumping spider and I start melting for them. Now I am one of this people in home who always screaming on others to not killing wild spiders that wondered into house. So thank you, it is much more pleasant to like them than fear them

According to science studies, jumping spiders have most developed brains out of all spiders (and ''insects'' all together. So it explains why out of all other spiders and insect creatures, jumping spiders are most unique with their social behavior / unique personality.

I understand the beauty and charm of this video, however. I barely survived TWO spider (brown recluse) bites 35 years apart. It may take me more than just a warm fuzzy story about an admittedly cute spider to see them as anything but the enemy.

In high school I caught and trained a jumping spider to jump to my hand and to the back of the couch and back in a few hours. They're gentle and intelligent. I've also handled tarantulas who knew I wasn't food or a threat. Super gentle and loved to be pet.

Aww! Gretal was absolutely adorable! My wife and I love jumping spiders! My oldest daughter was afraid of them til she watched your videos. Thank you, much, for also showing her how cute and harmless they are

Epic little Spiddoes these guys, I love how they are so observant and timid, slow (in terms of sitting still and just dandering around, then lightning (flash) fast when they need to be/jump.

Some australians can live with the Huntington spider in their homes. Because they get rid of everything we don't want. They're shy and want nothing to do with you and will even get us to you. .

in captivity their life spans are actually 2 to 2 1/2 yrs. I HAVE done alot of research on this. in the wild they say live 6 months to a year due being where they can be harmed more easily,

Not keen on spiders in general, though I won't go out of my way to hassle them. Having said that, my three favorite insects are: 1) Praying Mantis, 2) Jumping Spiders, and 3) Dragonfly's.

This video warmed my heart. It made me more mindful about the little creatures that live with us and share our space. Everything has feelings. Some people get it. Thank you.

have aways loved spiders. I had a pet Tarantula once and I just loved her. This littlr jumping spider looks so cute. I have never seen one in person. I loved your video.

To most critters with more than 6 legs, they recognize humans as LANDSCAPE rather than another living thing. We are their equivalent of GREAT OLD ONES.

I have Arachnophobia If you didn't know that's the fear for Arachneids!
I know spiders are cute My question is have you seen a tarantula

I was never afraid of spiders. Spiders eat mosquitoes. The usual rule of mine is to like any bug that eats mosquitoes.
