Cat Learns To Open Door To Meet New Foster Kittens - POKEY Yes, it is very rewarding to save an animal. I saved a street kitten who was less than a year old. He was just a little bag of bones when he first came to me. I wasnt sure I needed another cat. Now, three years later, he has greatly enriched the life of my other cat. The three of us live together in a large 2 bath 2 bedroom apt. I can leave the door of my apt wide open and he will stand in the middle of the doorway looking, but never going out.

I wouldve kept the kitten he so bonded with. I fostered 2 kittens one time and it was sooo much work I had a really hard time giving them to their new homes. I had bonded with them and worried about someone taking as good of care of them as i had. Thats when i knew i couldnt be a permanent foster mom. I would keep them all! Thank you for being foster parents! You are so special

We have many cats. One day we were handed an abandoned kitten about six weeks old. Apart from an eye infection which the vet cured she was fine. Every one of our grown cats of all ages ignored her except one young tuxedo male, he played with her all the time and taught her all she knows. Is there something about tuxedo cats that makes them nurturing

Pokey knows what it’s like to be in those kittens’ paws and he has so much love and care to give them. My heart aches for Pokey when his foster kittens go off to their forever homes. But he will soon get other kittens to love, care for, play with and teach. I will never get tired of watching this video about Pokey.

I had a cat who looked just like Pokey- black and white. Max had that same personality- he was like a mother cat to all of my other adult cats- (whether they liked it or not. He always had to be snuggling with someone else and grooming them. It was like he was their mother. Great cat, Max. Died at 19 two years ago.

We had a cat named The Dude who adored kittens. He would go to our neighbors house when there were kittens and play with them, give them a bath. Have a bite to eat, leave them all napping and come home. He was a great guy.

when i got my cat when he was a baby he was like that, why are some cats so needy like that, im not complaining he is a wonderful guy we love him soooo much but i did have to carry him around everywhere

Ive had cats for 30 years. Ive had upside down door handles for 29, 5 years. Last summer our 2yo boy figured out how to open the sliding windows in our balcony. he is very determined little bugger!

Pokey with his fabulous eyeliner, quirky character & massive heart is one of the Dodo stars I come back to periodically again & again, just because he & his humans and kitten fosters are/were so awesome!

My cat would only chew on the houseplant by my bed when I wouldn't get out of bed to get his breakfast. He was being naughty to get what he wanted and I thought that was interesting.

Pokey is special. My Jasper loves kittens, also. He has helped raise Leia (a foster fail and they bonded. 6 others. He still carries a toy in his mouth and cries for them to come play.

I wasn't a cat person until I got a kitten. She not as loving as Pokey, but she's adorable just the same. A real sweetie. Cats are more loving that you know until you have one.

My dogs used to groom and take care of my foster kittens. My own cat was their 1st baby. He Was only 2 weeks old. He only bonds with older cats. He is aloof from kittens.

Pokey is so sweet. He needs a brother or sister, so that he won't be so upset after a kitten gets adopted. He can have brother or sister help to keep his mind off of kitten.
reply

I see that you have great love for the silly fellow but why not get him a permanent brother or sister and eliminate the periods of obvious stress and anxiety for him!

I began with one cat, I offered to foster three kittens, I now have four cats. The eldest is now 18 years old and the kittens are now 14. All are healthy and happy.

Most cats get into hissy fits and take a while to adjust ti new members. Pokey is just so special that he has big heart for fostering kittens in need! Love it!
reply

Hi Larry Us! We can see who is doing the fostering. Pokey says, Stand back, Mom & Dad, you taught me all I need to know bout this foster stuff.
reply

He doesn't like being the only cat. Why not get him another singleton buddy and he wont act up when the fosters leave for their forever homes.
reply

omg. that is so nice. the cats are not of the same breed yet they instinctively know, you are one of me. that is so totally awesome.
reply

To me it sounds like you have a wonderful poke there and he's got to find you need to keep him supplied with little babies LOL
reply

I don’t think it is a good idea to constantly taking away the kitten he finally find bond to must be heartbreaking for him: (

Alright, but is no one gonna talk about how those two adult cats (Pokey and the brown tabby, look a bunch like Mowgli and BamBam
reply

Pokey is truly a sweet cat it’s lovely that the kittens have an amazing foster dad to watch over them and teach them.
reply

Pro tip: switch out your ada doorhandles. Replace them with round ones. It's a lot harder for determined cats to open
reply

I didn't expect male cats to be so nurturing, especially with kittens they don't know! Pokey is a special gentleman!
reply

Pokey is lucky to have you both. He has learnt from you both how to be loveing and caring to the other kittens.
reply

OMG! Pedophile cats! JUST KIDDING!
reply

He's a good dadcat, almost like Grandpaw Mason in Canada. He teaches the wee ones how to cat.
reply

Now you two are really earning your angel wings and Pokey needs a pair of kitty size wings.
reply

Lovely story. I am so happy to know people like you actually exist! Thank you for all you do!
reply

Cats know how to open doors. This is not new. My cat can turn a round door knob.
