Scared Puppy Mill Rescue Refused To Come Inside The House Until Olaf is probably a Great Pyrenees or possibly another kind of livestock guardian dog. So you need to do some research about how to best care for him. He is not a regular pet dog like your other dogs. The fact that he let you pet him at all or come in the house is huge. But you also have to recognize that guardian dogs have different hardwiring because theyve been bred to do it for literally thousands of years. You should never ever have a cat in that home or it is toast

While I applaud the rescue wholeheartedly - I only have had rescues - I am torn here. Great Pyrenees have genetic traits for living outside - they are traditionally guardian dogs for sheep flocks but can be used for some other animals. They are not house pets but can get accustomed to coming inside esp when retired or older. I guess that I would want to accommodate whichever the dog chooses as I have the space to do both.
Just saying

i have had 3 pyres. my first was a rescue at 10 yrs old. luckily he did have some human interaction. the next two were pups i rescued and they really are big love bugs! the one i still have was afraid of stairs and doorways, loud noises and strangers. now shes the neighborhood superstar! loves all the attention for sure. still gets scared of a bug landing on her mammoth fluff though (haha) glad to see this beautiful boy in a happy place

So that dog looks like a great Pyrenees or a Maremma. As you probably already know, both breeds are used primarily as protectors for sheep or goat farms. Usually they sleep all day and are on patrol at night. Most of the time they never come into houses, they always stay close to the animals they are protecting. It’s possible you’re asking a dog to be a couch potato when really all they want is to be outside working.

So thankful you saved his life heartless people could give those dogs to people who would definitely take them but they so damn scared to lose a dollar. one day those that destroy creation are going to know exactly just exactly what they didnt do

I adopted a big malamute girl who came from an Amish breeding situation, it took many months but she eventually became comfortable in the house and is now a sassy happy girl. Adopting a challenging dog is so worth it! Time, patience, and love

Olaf is very fortunate to have you. So for him, I say thank you. It's very challenging having a dog that's afraid of everything and just letting Olaf figure things out is essential. Well done!

This is a great pyrenees, they are out outside dogs, they protect livestock. thats what they do. but happy you have other dogs to help him, and the love from you, keep up the love.

I have a 13 year old Pyranee girl who is undoubtedly the most intelligent animal I have ever had. Olaf is a perfect example of how they interact with everyone around them.

He is an amazing Great Pyrenees. But being outside is natural for them. They're livestock guardian dogs. They need a flock to identify with and to control a perimeter.

Aww! It took me 5 hours to get my gaint rescue dog to come into the house the first time. It took me months to get him to jump in the car. Now it's his favorite.

Olaf saw how good and gentle you were with your dogs and they helped to bring him out of his fear and shell. Thank you for rescuing and fostering this beautiful boy.

What a amazing lady to show Olaf all the time and patience he needs. And what a lucky dog Olaf is. At alot of places, he could've been deemed unadoptable.

I've only run into a couple of Great Pyrenees in my life, but I'm always surprised at how timid they are with people, considering they could easily take me out.

Olaf was learning love and trust most probably for the first time. This woman, these people who rescue, are such heroes. Very grateful for what they do.

In some situations, we must laugh our way through. no matter how sad the preceding circumstance. It's lovely to see the positive change in Olaf.

I’m cracking up at them laughing at the beginning, when they picked him up and laughing, even harder when they were pushing him those wheels

The dog may be a livestock guardian dog. They live outside and patrol the fences for predators. If you have livestock he won’t leave them.

Tears. They say time heals all things. I think love also has a lot to do with it. What angel you are for saving this beautiful boy

Olaf you’re a gorgeous gentle pup and you landed at the right place with a loving Mom and a great pack of mates

Those dogs are just so chill! Even if they’re afraid or they don’t want to do something, they remain so calm.
