Diver Has Been Friends With Tiger Shark For 20 Years! there are many other wild creatures humans have befriended. Weve had wolves, lions, tigers, bears, deer, elephants, rhinos, hippos, seals, walrus, dolphins, birds, any species actually. Sure some were raised by humans and thus tamed in a sense, but it makes me happy to think that humans can have these cross-species friendships.
Maybe its our job to domesticate all animals or develop friendships with all animals, be a teacher to them, and help them. Maybe further in the future, resurrect or de-extinct other species whose DNA we can salvage Bring back extinct species, re-engineer species for sentience or sapience, as in uplifting them. Maybe even find ways to communicate mind to mind like in Avatar, using links of neural strata to have a mind linking all living things on the planet. Then spread life to other planets, engineer and help conserve their unique biologies, as many moons have oceans and other complex chemicals that can have life.
We could engineer bacteria like in snottites (Netflix alien worlds show for reference) to turn the hydrogen sulfide, or sulfuric acid in Venus to spread life through its atmosphere, and convert it into oxygen and terraform it We could terraform Mars. If we consider the moons to be worlds, theres over 80 worlds for us to visit in our solar system alone, if not more. Places like Europa could have oceans underneath its surface. Titan has liquid methane instead of liquid water. Gannymede and Callisto have more water than the oceans of the Earth. There are moons of Uranus and Neptune, and possibly other Pluto-sized objects out in the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud.
Not to mention all the exoplanets were discovering and will find out if they have life or not. Even our nearest stellar neighbour, Proxima Centauri, might have a planet within a Goldlilocks like habitable zone. Weve found over 5000 exoplanets so far. Life could be abundant and just in different ecosystems.
Maybe humans will cross a stage from being one with all humans (as were learning through psychology) to being one with all life, and through bioengineering be able to save, ressurect, enhance and evolve and develop all sorts of sentient friendships, as well as create some artificial ones ourselves, be they genetically engineered, simulated or programmed into being. Maybe we can have AIs that are more like NDR-114, or Andrew Martin from Bicentennial Man instead of Skynet or HAL 9000, beings that just want to live like us, and who would be in ways our children.
It makes me hopeful for the future. Sorry about the long post on this everyone.

Jim's rules of contact adhere to a large shark's natural behaviors.
1) Only Clear water contact (during daylight) so predators see each other. No dawn, dusk or night diving which is when sharks are actively hunting.
2) Film we saw does not show divers feeding sharks which can trigger aggressive & competitive behaviors.
3) Jim focuses on positive reward of rubbing top of head which is a natural thing sharks seek but do carefully to avoid damaging their eyes & sensory organs on snout.
4) Interesting that tiger sharks who are loners and extremely curious hunters can develop positive (non violent) interactive behavioral patterns with specific individual humans over long time periods.

I'm glad to hear that some of the tigersharks can be as friendly as the lemons, but I'll probably always prefer the giants (whale shark and basking shark) or the smaller ones around the size of a dogfish and nurse shark.
I doubt I'll ever like bull sharks, those are op to the point of being jerks. They are the sharks that are responsible for shark bites inland for Australia and Northern US up the Mississippi River. They might only go up 3/4 the length of the river but if they could withstand the cold better they'd go of the rest of the way.

There are 2 sides to this, I love this video and whole heartedly agree that sharks are not vicious man eaters. At the same time they are apex predators, people get confused, sharks get confused. Just saying don't go out as a new diver see a sharks and swim towards it with the intention of being friends. As an avid fisherman of both salt and fresh water you never know something that eats other living thing's will react.

I had heard that last ve makes the world go round, but putting THIS concrete image to that idea is mind blowing. What the world needs now is faith in that shark’s choice: gratitude for compassion. Thank goodness for the goodness and wisdom of this brave man. I want to be in that number, counted with those who can see a shark’s need and not its reputation and size!
reply

i think this guy is lying about knowing this shark for 20 years. it just sounds like a made up number. not 11, not 7, not 19, but a nice round 20 years.
How old does his earliest video/photo of the shark date cause thats probably how long he's actually known it.

reply

Well considering they have been friends for 20y I would say its like any wild animal that has been conditoned to humans same as a lion or tiger etc. Now try this with a wild Tiger shark you have never met before im sure the outcome will be far different.

The movie Jaws did a lot of damage to these wonderful creatures. Spielberg has said he regretted making the movie and I believe him. I think these types of videos ultimately will help save the sharks. Only time will tell though.

She loves you and you have a mutual respect for each other and you r not feeding her so she doesn't associate you with food and you have shown kindness by removing books from her from Zoe in England isle of Wight
reply

Animals blink their eyes to show affection, to show they trust you or that they are not a threat. I've seen dogs do this and my own bunnies. I've never seen or expected a shark to do this. My mind is blown!
reply

Shark could attack everyone/thing feeling I guess in some for obvious reasons: 1. They are afraid 2. Misrecognized the moving object. And I agree that sharks as usual do not eat or hurt people

I've a question about a certain Predatory Shark would you do a Great White Shark the same way you do with that Tiger Shark Or are Great White Sharks more aggressive than Tiger Shark
reply

I just love Emma she is so sweet. I never get tired of watching these videos. Out of all the sharks I have watched, Emma is my favorite. Pet he for me Thanks so much for the videos.

Amazing, of a higher understanding and trust, maybe no outward fear felt by either, so good to see someone who lives with and respects, mankind usually feels its their job to destroy
reply

I've always loved sharks, and I hope to go swimming with them one day. I personally have a thing for hammerheads. They're so unique and different. blessings to Emma and her hooman.
reply

Sharrks are magestic and peaple being attacked were all mistaken identity you show yourself to a shark and show respect they respect you and will definitely protect
reply

Just brilliant. It is how all animals should be able to feel around all humans. Sadly they now seem to be born fearing us so sights like this are rare rather than the norm.

I got to see a big shark and aquarium in Florida. A rescue place. It was so cool! I love sharks and I would love to go back to Florida. I've only been once there
reply

What apex predator can you become friends with
Most of them, I think.
Just under very special circumstances, and always comes with a certain risk.

reply

Love how he rubs Emma's head and snout, and however the term is, her eyes lids close and you can see the enjoyment in her enjoying that affection.
reply

Someday mankind is going to realize just how terribly we've treated all these other life forms that we assumed weren't sentient or emotional.
reply

I have been fascinated by sharks ever since I was a kid. Sharks are fascinating and highly intelligent. People are scarier than sharks.
reply

It's totally amazing, sharks are not what we think they are. We must do everything we can to look after them and preserve their habitat.
reply

EMMA ITS A HOT MILF SHARK.
The legend says that to mantain these special bond the diver must lick her hole when cam3ras not rolling.

reply

I’m glad he understands that all sentient beings understand love. It is that special Earthly quality that all earthlings understand.
reply

I am surprised that any shark can be nice after something sharp is removed from where it pierced the face or the inside of the mouth.
reply

That shark really loves him. One day she will make sure they will always be together. in her bellaaaay. Chomp.
reply

Absolutely blown away! I'm surprised I haven't seen anything about him in all the hundreds of animal shows I've seen.
reply

Jim, you should try to eliminate some of the Orca population as they are taking out a lot of Great Whites.
reply

People will see this and go out in the ocean trying to make friends. Get those Darwin awards ready.
reply

When said it's like your dog recognizing you I laughed, because in my language sharks are called dog-fish
reply

I think removing all those hooks from her mouth has something to do with her friendliness to you!
reply

He could put his hand on Emma’s fin and go for a ride. Now that would look spectacular!
reply

I feel like the movie Jaws made a massive negative perception of sharks for generations
reply

She’s just trying to get you to bring your friends along for a dive before payday
