This Woman Finds An Abandoned Parakeet In New York City Soulmates This is what domesticated birds that get loose do. Theyll look for someone to help them. They dont have the skills to survive in the wild and they know it. It might seem like a good idea to free a bird but its not its actually terrible. Their owners are their flock so your basically forcing them out of their flock which birds will do and is very traumatic. Theyll look for someone that they like or land on someone elses bird cage and wait. The rescue i got my birds from would have random birds that got loose sitting on top of the cages outside from time to time. Usually doves people love to release those at weddings and engagements. Its like taking your dog down to the woods and saying there you go be free now. They wont turn into wild beasts they look for people. Rehoming is a much better option.

Hi! My mom is obsessed with birds and she has kept finches. My older brother and me love cats and parrots but we have no cat but we do have cockatiels and parakeets. So me and my friends were getting ready for a picnic and suddenly one of my friends saw this exact same type of parakeet. It was breathing heavily and it was scared. My friend called her dad who loves parrots a lot and he picked her/him up and put her/him in the cage where my other parakeets are ( outside ). She is happy now but we are gonna put her in my house for some playtime soon please give me advice on how to gain her / his trust!

My bird flew away because she was a smart fella, too adventurous, don’t ask me how she got out of the window, I was a kid, but my neighbor caught her, and never gave our bird back. Yeah. She just saw my bird on her window, and never asked if someone lost her bird. I saw the f bird on her house, knocked and said that’s my lost bird, she never gave back to us. Even with my parents knocking at her door for days.
Yeah

Bit late to this convo. but, I've had budgies my whole life and never had a band on their ankles. Also, this bird has had LOTS of socialisation. Whoever put that amount of time in, which is Heaps, would be unlikely (I think) to abdnadon it. Poor guy got lost. Ive lost one on mine by accident too. Cage was outside for some sunshine and my pony accidentally knocked cage over. So glad this guy found a home.

He may have been a loved pet before she found him. NYC budgies are sold without a band sometimes. He might have got out by accident. He came to her cause he was probably already a tamed bird by someone. They arent naturally that loving. Thats trained behavior that they start liking. Hope the previous owner doesn't miss him too much.

the bird was afraid and cold you were the first person to even bat an eye, and clearly the bird was desperate to find help. the fact that the bird loves you so much, changes you and grounds you. they give all that love and expect nothing in return. and because you love them back just makes you a much better person in this world.

I was thinking, when the budgie first hopped up to her that it was cold, hungry and very sleepy. It curled up next to her (body heat, it ate some bread and then passed out. It saw a nice human and that's all she wrote. Bond immediately forming as soon as she took it home and cared for it. So adorable!

That woman thinks the bird choose her as his sacred, chosen soulmate. he was only approaching her because he was starving and knows humans = food and shelter first thing she does is taking selfies and 100 videos for social media instead of caring for the bird, disgusting narcissistic behavior

You have a true friend there. He knows who saved his life and will love you for the rest of his little life. Love him with all you heart. I have 3 cockatiels and 3 budgies and i lost one recently and it broke my heart but i wouldnt trade a single moment of time i had with him for anything.

Whats odd is how healthy the bird was, it's beak is bright, it's feathers are clean, I think perhaps it wasn't abandoned or perhaps it's loving owner died and the family didn't want to care for it after, but it is odd, usually abused animals are not this healthy

I have constant nightmares of my birds somehow breaking out and fleeing in a panic, because of sounds and winds, and the idea of my pets out there in the cold is so horrifying. I'm so glad someone found this little guy and helped him.
reply

they are amazing mine loved to sit on my shoulder and just watch, even when it was something boring but important where i needed to focus and couldnt play aka filing taxes or writing bills, he just loved to sit and observe it all

That's an Australian Budgerigar (miniature parrot. One of the most beautiful, friendly birds that come from the Top End, the Wetlands of Australia (the North. They live in a community of thousands.
reply

We've had parrots for 33 years. PLEASE get his wings clipped so he doesn't lose his home again. Also, people think Budgies aren't REAL parrots, WRONG, & as a bonus they can become good talkers.
reply

Animal abusing woman, this bird is alone now whenever she isn’t at home, parakeets have to be held at least as a couple, doesn’t matter if Male or female as long as they have an equal
reply

It’s much more likely that this bird escaped. I hope she actually tried to put out posts of some kind to find the original owners instead of being like oh no leg ring I’ll keep him.
reply

It's all very cute, sweet and kind to pick up the abandoned little guy.
However, it's not a parakeet. It's a freakin' budgie or budgerigar. Admittedly, they are related. But heck.

reply

I don’t know if it was abandoned, but I also rescued a parakeet! We found it on our car and we asked around but nobody said it was theirs, still alive and I love it!
reply

Ten days ago I found a Budgie sitting on the grill of the window of my room in the evening. She is such a sweet girl, tomorrow I am going to find a partner for her.
reply

Oh, I hope the person that lost him sees this one day! I imagine he escaped and they were very sad and afraid that something awful happened to him. He's so adorable.
reply

I've got 4 budgies and none of them will even let me touch them. And two of them are the kids of the other two who were born in my house and I raised from birth
reply

bird isn’t abandoned but probably flew away from its cage. a friendly bird like that shows that the owner cares about them. stop spreading misinformation
reply

He was so cold and couldn’t wait to get inside her coat but I understand she can’t just put him inside her coat and risk getting some infection
reply

most probably, he was not abandoned but just he flew from home to out without knowing what he was doing. Luckily, he kept alive till he was found.
reply

Why would someone abandon a parakeet like that’s soo messed up! well luckily a woman like that took care of that precious baby birb
reply

Yeah, $50 says she just bought a baby budgie, because he is a baby, and just made up some story to get attention on the internet
reply

Okay. The Dodo is really impressing me with these great animal rescue stories! Thank you! Glad i subbed a long time ago!
reply

Somehow, animals KNOW who to go to, to be rescued. That Budgie knew she wouldn't hurt him. He knew she would save him.
reply

People don't abandon parakeets, they escape out of houses when a door or window is left open. It belongs to somebody.
reply

I love it is automatically thinking he was abandoned. There is a possibility he might have accidentally gotten out.
reply

My ten year old busiest passed away three days ago. This story made me happy and smile. Thanks for sharing.
reply

How can anyone abandon a sweet little parakeet, if I could I would live with hundreds of parakeets
reply

I would absolutely LOVE to have found this little treasure I love parakeets. How lucky and blessed you are!
reply

Lucky she has a bird that came right up to her I adopted 5 birds and only two of them kind of like me
reply

I had a similar experience with a green cheek conure but I found his home and returned him
