The reason I say this: apparently chickens can just appear out of nowhere. I’m calling these types of chickens Boltzmann chickens after the idea of the Boltzmann Brain. A Boltzmann brain is a thought experiment which basically says if the universe is infinite and matter lasts forever then at some point in the past, present, or future, there is a human brain in space that formed out of nowhere and is hallucinating life. Same basic concept for Boltzmann chickens.

A few of our chickens would hang out in the house sometimes. We got them from our neighbors and they hadn't been properly socialized, so most of them didn't care much for people. A few were very friendly though, and would come in through the dog door and jump up on the couch.

Roosters do leave if another rooster chase him off & they look for suitable nesting place for the hen to lay once they are free to roam.

I would say 20 of my 50 chickens are lap chickens and that includes a bunch of roo's. They can be sweet as anything. Who knew.

I too had a Rooster as my pet. it died few days ago. I miss him so much. Rooster are lovely as pet.
