Tiny Baby Deer Asks People to Rescue Her Wild Hearts I’ve read a lot of comments about hunting, so I’d like to try to clear some misconceptions up.
White-tailed deer always give birth in the spring. Most legal hunting seasons run in mid October-early December. Fawns will only have their spots for a few months, from their birth until around September or so. So the fawns pictured in this video are quite literally newborns. The reason that they are orphans is not due to legal hunting. The likely cause is getting hit by a car, although natural predators and disease/sickness can also be a factor.
Contrary to the perception of some, nearly all legal hunters treat the animals they are hunting with a degree of respect. Most would be disgusted at the idea of someone killing a juvenile fawn or a mother doe actively guiding her fawns. Granted, there is no way to tell if a doe has a fawn if they’re not actively visible, but by the time hunting seasons roll around, the fawn has some degree of autonomy.
Legal hunting also serves an ecological role. In a lot of areas, the natural predators of deer have become much more scarce. Because of this, herd sizes would keep growing at the risk of food becoming scarce in some areas. Legal, permitted hunting takes the place of these natural predators and is done with keeping the herd size in a given area balanced.
Most legal hunters recognize this and fill that role accordingly and will use as much of the animal as possible. Much of the deer is edible, the hide can be tanned into very soft leather and antlers can be used in household items or even for artistic carving.

Do these deer survive long in the wild They've been raised to depend on humans for their sustenance. How do they fare once they're released into the wild and need to find their own food and protect themselves against predators Do they see new humans and approach them, thinking that all humans will be as equally kind

That's one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'm amazed at how trusting those baby deers are towards people. That is a very special thing. I always think wild deer are totally afraid of people. And why wouldn't the be, they've seen so many people carrying guns. It never ends well for the deer.
reply

Even though they were rescued, they didn't have the opportunity to learn from their parents to do well in the wild. Which is sad. For the same reason, orangutan orphans will be trained before they are released back into the wild.

Oh thank you so much for saving all those gorgeous babies. Just so beautiful. Precious little ones and majestic as they mature. What a gift from God his specially made animals that are all just amazing!

Those coward hunters! The reason that the sanctuary receives so many baby deers is that those murderous psychopaths called hunters kill their mothers. I hope that karma finds them eventually.

I’ve hunted my share of deer but that fawn didn’t deserve to be orphaned like that. I totally applaud these people for their kindness and care for this animal
