Rescue pittie helps her brother start talking Rescue pittie helps her brother start talking Johnny was introduced to Xena when he was just 8 years old. She was so gentle and intuitive with him, forming a very special bond. We spoke to his mom about how their friendship helped Johnny open up, talk more, and socialize. If you can only do one thing for an autistic kid. then get them an animal companion. A service dog is AWESOME but pricey but a dog is better than none and there are other animals that make great companions for kids. My go-tos are my rats, 2 fancies and 4 Gambians and they're always ready with a cuddle for me.
It's to do with trust and understanding others (from the lad's point of view. He will not understand facial information, EVEN FROM HIS MOTHER, and missing these social cues leaves you very uncertain and a little afraid (plus is INCREDIBLY exhausting) and later, angry. A dog understands us and we understand the dog, as this is a relationship that doesn't rely on language, the greratest social tool any species has, but on emotion. There's no deceit, just truth, love and loyalty. They will always be on your side. whatever side that happens to be and mostly by your side; P They will always protect their friend (and it's only right we return that gift) in almost any situation and help this young man cope with mean people.

My son is almost 15 and Autistic and considered nonverbal. It has literally taken 13 years to get him to the point where he is finally able to express some of his feelings, wants, ideas, etc. He likes seeing baby animals, but small dogs are too energetic and unpredictable for him to enjoy them. Bigger breeds like pitties who have a slower, calmer nature are more his style. Animals of every size and species seem drawn to him as well so I have to keep an eye on him to make sure they don't overwhelm him.

Young lady, you’re making me cry! Thank you for sharing this wonderful story, gives me hope that God does send the right angels to those in the greatest of need and comfort. My nephew and my wife’s niece both have mild autism and it’s hard whenever I see them. They are functional but feel sad because their thinking is that a big child! We make sure they are always a part of everything whenever we see them but you can see they feel slightly apart from everyone else. keep fighting for your boy!

Some dogs just know. We got a dog from the pound when my mom came home from the hospital on disability. She was so depressed. Wouldn’t- couldn’t- get out of bed. Wouldn’t eat. That dog made ALL the difference. She wouldn’t go to the potty for me, but would put her head near Mom’s on the bed and whine until she got up. She wouldn’t eat until Mom sat down for a meal. She would walk with Mom slowly and sit in the grass when Mom sat on her walker. We didn’t train her for it. She just knew.

Dena is your son’s daily Christmas gift. Love, every minute of the day. Every day of the week. How does one family get such a loving dog that works miracles with their little, precious boy Because you deserve your precious Zena. Please consider Pet Insurance. Choice whatever terms you can avoid. This insurance will be the blanket that keeps your pup safe and well cared for with only a small monthly premium. You have a magical dog who works his magic with your son. Makes me smile.

Xena's furry therapy is the best!
In 1972 my parents rescued a huge, neglected German Shepherd. One day, she took him to the park and there was a teacher with a group of children on a class trip.
Suddenly a boy from the group walked over and nonchalantly pets our German Shepherd, Max. The teacher was shocked and said that autistic boy had never reacted to anyone or anything until that moment.
It was the magic of Max who inspired for this autistic boy's breakthrough.

I said it once, I'll say it again, there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners who don't care and DO NOT DESERVE dogs or any kind of pet, not even a fish. Pitbulls are not bad dogs at all, it breaks my heart hearing that, and makes me sad because there are people out there who believe they are. and it isn't even the dogs fault.

I have a xl pittie and people see her and her size and will literally walk into traffic to get Away from her! She's automatically judged before even knowing her! She has healed me in ways medicine hasn't been able. She is my Happiness my world, she is my Freya Moon!
Hearing that sweet boy brought tears of joy to my eyes

Thank you for sharing. This is the best feel good story i've heard in a very long time.
Pitties are such lovely creatures. Loyal. Loving. And intelligent.
A pittie, or any dog for that matter doesn't go bad without just cause. It's never the dogs fault. It's always the retard at the other end of the leash!

I've only met a few pitbulls (illegal here, but the ones I've met were all amazing normal dogs. From what I gather they have the same personality as my staffie had more or less. This insane love and loyalty to people, which of course can be problematic with the wrong owner. Dogs are never the problem, people are.

This story caused me to tear up. As I saw my autistic daughters singing voice in this young boy. Good work, parents. Consistency & positive reinforcements of behaviour will help in the long run. Always encourage. Always express love. The child will grow to be a bright, caring person. Best regards

I have watched Xena and Jonny's journey for years, and the changes and the happiness and confidence he gained from that sweet pup is amazing. Jonny is a truly wonderful, caring, thoughtful young man, and it is due to the love and support of his awesome parents and one very special pitbull.

I’m so happy for Johnny and Zena animals and small children are a blessing to one another and don’t let the big dog stereotype scare you because they know who to trust and it’s the humans who make them bad 99. 9% of the time especially the females they’re protecting in a good way

This brought me to tears. I mean balling tears. The power of these dogs and specifically this breed is so touching. They are amazing dogs that just want to love and be loved. So happy for your son and his best buddy. What a combo! They were meant for each other.

If anyone owns a dog they all should know dogs are how they’re raised. As long as they are raised right with kindness doesn’t matter the breed. She should have known that being a dog owner. Sorry but as a cat owner I even know it’s all how they’re raised.

What happened was, this boy has beautiful energy and so does Xena. They're doing studies with severe autism cases and they are testing as beyond intelligent. like 190s or more. Johnny can tap into other realms than we can and this is why this works so well!

I Love this. I also listened to all the bad things I heard about pitt bulls & thought parents were being irresponsible bringing them into a home with Children. Thank you Dodo for totally changing my mind after so many great stories.

All dogs need to be supervised with children to make sure both are safe. A couple I know we’re convinced to get rid of their pittie when they were expecting their first child because others considered all pit bulls dangerous. So sad

A dog's value is immeasurable. For autism, PTSD, the blind, the deaf, those with seizures, those with mobility issues. the list is endless. The dog's do their jobs willingly and with enthusiasm. They love almost unconditionally.
reply

If you get a pit bull and show them what it is to be love, you get a loving dog. It’s people who treat dogs mean and meanly tease them is what has caused this breed to be put on a dangerous breed list. What a shame.
