These amazing, sensitive, intelligent creatures deserve so much more than what humans do to them.
To chain an elephant for decades, deny it the support from other elephants is cruel beyond words.
These are social creatures, who naturally are meant to live in matriarchal herds filled with complex relationships. They grieve, just as humans do. They protect their young, sometimes to the detriment of the herd.
Apparently, they communicate via subsonic frequencies.
They are not for entertainment whether in a circus or as a ride. IMO, they should not be used in logging. However, that may cause too many detrimental economic impacts. So, strict rules should govern their use, as well as humans.
Any elephant that's only known some form of captivity and cannot be released into the wild, belongs in a sanctuary with other elephants and people who understand elephants as well as humans can understand any non human animal.
To be a human, to me, means caring for all life in this world. The most meaningful impact humans can make is to impact the environment and all life as gently and infrequently as possible. To understand what is enough and leave the rest for others who also understand enough.

Asia and other parts of that world have a grotesque history of animal abuse especially the very majestic Elephants! Put those very heavy chains on those ignorant people and force them to drag those logs! This guy is really great! And in India they not only worship Elephants they have a God devoted to Elephants. just can't remember the name of that God or Spirit Being and they do ride them but they are one with their Elephants. Like soulmates. it's called total respect. or a total deep understanding.

4: 12 I love what you're doing for these elephants truly. But Not designed to, that doesn't sound right. Cows, pigs, chickens and Bulls weren't designed to be eaten by humans from slaughterhouses, horses were designed to be ridden on by humans. Hell initially, even dogs weren't designed to be a human's family member. Humans are the worst creatures on the planet and there's no two ways around it, but least we can do is show respect to all animals rather than putting your guilt from 1000 miles across.

This man saving elephants is a great story. And to do this every year on his birthday I wish I could do that. It just shows that one person can make a difference. And if there were more people like this man who helped elephants or big cats or monkeys and cats and dogs and we took care of the people who will cruel and tortured animals and put those people behind bars it would be a great world. There is no reason whatsoever for any animal to be hurt named tortured killed.

The long awaited rescues of these sweet, gentle & docile elephants made me cry b/c I was discerning their many years of torture & hardship they endured. Yet at the same time, I loudly rejoiced after I saw them finally get their taste of forever freedom & finally get those heavy chains removed that were wrapped around for decades on their neck, body and/or limbs, just so they couldn't escape from their life of torment, pain & hardship.

I don't hv an issue w animals working. I hv an issue when they r not treated w respect & kindness. They need breaks, they require healthy & nutritious feed; they require vet chk-ups; they need socialization; they need rest; & they need retirement. 50 yrs being forced 2 work w none of the above as well as wearing chains is unforgiveable. TY 4 all u & others do 2 right the wrongs!

My heart broke seeing that elephant logging! I guess I understand some of these cultures aren't like the United States where we have equipment for that so I do understand if this is how they need to survive but elephants deserve to be elephants! I'm sure the comment section is full so I'm just going to give you another THANK YOU THANK YOU!

i rode elephants when i was in thai land, and maybe im wrong, but the elephants actually seemed really happy. it seemed like they enjoyed meeting people and talking them on walks through the jungle. they didnt seem like they were being abused. they seemed like they were being cherished. i dunno, im sure im wrong.

WOW What an outstanding video and I am so impressed that he does this every year. I wonder how much these trips cost him These wonderful creatures exude happiness at being somewhere safe and comfortable, and all because you have helped them. What an incredibly generous gift that is, for you both!

I'm happy for the rescued elephants and congratulate this gentleman for what he it trying to do. But I won't condemn these people for using the elephants. It's an economic necessity. They will have to replace them with another type of animal or another elephant to do the work.

Whoa, thank you man for helping to save these majestic intelligent animals and giving them a better future. It’s like saving people from human traffickers. There needs to be public education outreach to elephant riding camps so that tourists don’t support them any longer.

Truly inspiring and admirable, but what are the realities of this rescue Presumably the men depending on this elephant, and others, for their logging work and living are compensated - do they just go and buy a younger elephant What measures are being taken to end this cycle

thank you for rescuing these beautiful elephants! no animal should be
treated like this. I agree with you that elephants should not be ridden.
they should be treated with kindness and love. elephants should live
free where they belong.

Peace is nice. But sometimes you need to show the stick. Not that you will use it, but you can. And then negotiations change. Because everything changes when you understand that civility is a concept and nature is the ultimate rule handbook.

What I find mind blowingly extraordinary is that after serving humans, in bondage, for that long(40 years, she then trusts humans that she doesn't know by following them 20 miles to a piece of land she is unfamiliar with! Amazing!
