As a Polynesian person I thought the movie was great and obviously our storys are very dark so ofc they changed it to be different for a kids film
the overall message of our cultures stories is there also the discrepancies can be seen in a way that every island cultures story about maui is slightly different to eachothers
you can't please everyone thats why when they say Maui was described as this or that
I wonder how they know since every island has their own interpretation of Maui
With the whole women can't be chiefs it doesn't really matter in this point in time its a misrepresentation of our culture but anyone in our culture knows thats how it is and were not using Moana as a teaching aid for our culture its a movie based on Polynesian culture

I'm just grateful that Disney finally made a movie about our culture and I'm not offended like all these people that never done anything to put the culture on the map none of their nonsense matters. Haters will always hate so ungrateful and Embarrassing.

As far as the Sun story in Hawaii the sun Didnt just say he would walk slower in the sky. ACTUALLY he cut off a bunch if the suns legs i think if i remember the story from elementary school the sun had about 16 or 18 legs

In my honest opinion it's a lot more fun to watch children's movies like Moana & The Little Mermaid as well as all of their other animated classics without knowing their ( in some cases racists & horrible backstories)

as Polynesian i think this entire video is unnecessary. Maui depicts actually island builds, as does Moana. Women hold a very important role in our traditions
