we re counting down our picks for the greatest inventions in American history. Our countdown of American inventions that changed the world includes E-mail (1971, The Light Bulb (1879, The Airplane (1903, and more! Did we miss a quintessential American invention? If a flash of inspiration hits you Any discussion of an assembly line should include at least a nod to Adam Smith and his book The Wealth of Nations in 1776 where he describes the multi-step process of making a pin on an assembly line. Smith never created an assembly line -- he was a philosopher of economics, not an industrialist -- but did present the concept to the western world. He often gets overlooked in the US because, well, we were busy doing other things in 1776.

Yea america invented civilization as well
Sarcasm aside If leeching off the works of others and passing it off as ur own through brain-drain and repacking is counted as a invention then yea China should be there on top along with america and they atleast had some original products of their own like paper, gunpowder, medicene even before the europeans who went on explorations not just repackaged westernized products.
The american market is the biggest testing consumer market in the world for new products not a production / inventive one unless it's anywhere related closely to the war machine that feeds it.

Why does everyone mispronounce the name of the Qing Dynasty? It's not that hard to pronounce. It's pronounced ching, as in cha ching, the sound a cash register makes when you open it, not king, as in a male monarch. And no, I'm not trying to be racist, I'm just pointing out proper grammar.

Interchangeable parts and cotton gin were both British inventions not American. America was a British colony so they adopted their industrial culture. But those were created in Britain first and then the USA adopted and adapted it.

Wait a minute the telephone was invented by Antonio Meucci, Bell was only the first to deposit a patent for it. And there were at least a couple of other guys that invented it after Meucci but before Bell.
