Besides Pikachu, Chizard and Sceptile, I think all of my favorite pokemons Ash owned came from the Gen 4 series. To me, I still Diamond and Pearl was the best of the gens. I love Ash's black outfit, his dynamic with Dawn was the greatest (imo Dawn was the best of all the female companions, the growth he had with Chimchar to Infernape was good, his rivalry with Paul was unique and everything was just good. The only downside I had with the gen 4 series was how Ash was screwed out of being Sinnoh champ by a pokemon legendary spammer cuz the writers really said some not your time yet, young warrior. Like c'mon.

Torterra got done dirty in terms of his win/lose ratio, since pretty much his only wins were as a Turtwig. Maybe because they needed to provide Chimchar the most development, but it still hurts. It’s a similar problem I have with Noivern (even if it is the youngest Kalos member) because, as much as I love Greninja, his arc really put a dent in Noivern’s prowess with technically one one win in my eyes against Sawyers Doublade (I don’t count Zapdos since, was it really a defeat, especially when Team Rocket intervened)

We all knew who number one was going to be. Personally, if I was in the Pokemon world, my partner would be the same as when I started in Pokemon Blue: Bulbasaur (that would've evolved to a Venasuar and gotten a Mega Evolution, A Z-Move, and Teralize-Grass form by now. lol )

Pikachu was actually my first Pokemon cus Pokemon yellow was my first Pokemon game when I was 9 years old. Unfortunately he couldn't help me against Brock like in the show but Butterfree did. Confusion and sleep powder or id probably still be trying to beat Brock.

If I had to add a few additions as honorable mentions I would've gone with Butterfree, Scraggy, Larvitar, Corphish, Oshawott and Mimey (Ash kept his mother's Mr Mime for a few episodes in Journeys.

I’m appalled by how Butterfree was never included especially with how he bonded with Ash when he was a Catterpie and also being the first Pokemon he ever caught

Bruh me, a full grown man decided to watch the first few episodes of the OG pokemon and I was bawling my eyes out. The scene with Charmander and Pikachu was sad.

Thank you for that. Pokemon holds a special place for me. It was the first show when I came to the U. S. Fair to say it's influenced me quite a bit.

How come we never saw Ash with a Psychic and Fairy type Pokemon Sure there's Mr mime who's his mom's companion but he doesn't use that Pokemon often

Good list, but between 20 and 11 could have be switch or replace some better, such as Squitle over Snorlax and replace kingler with Incineroar.

Ash should remember gengar considering that almost death experience at the tower. Not to mention he caught his younger brother to fight sabrina

Not a bad list but my top 20 would have butterfree and Pidgeot on there somewhere. I think Bulbasaur would be a little higher as well.
