Nicholas Brandon was also much older than his character, Xander Harris. He's only about 8 months younger than Charisma.
Going back further, Anson Williams was 25 when Happy Days started, while Ron Howard was 20 & Don Most was 21. I would count Henry Winkler at 29, but he wasn't playing a high school kid. So it's been a trend for a long time.

The funny thing about Riverdale is that when most people made jokes about the characters looking too old for high school, they would often mention KJ Appa who was actually still high school aged when he was cast. Ashleigh Murray looks so young you would think she’s younger than most of the cast.

I love Bianca Lawson. She just never ages. I remember when she played Kendra, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then when I saw her again in the Vampire Diaries as Emily Bennett, I gagged at how young she still looked. I swear she has done so many shows and doesn't get enough credit.

Daenerys and Margaery were deliberately aged up for the show. The show versions were supposed to be late teens/early 20s.
All the main characters were aged up. Jon Snow in the books is 14 or 15, same with Robb Stark. But the show versions were supposed to be older.

I find it odd and a bit fitting that Bianca Lawson's character in PLL is named Maya St. Germain. She shares the same name with the Count of St. Germain, a supposed immortal. Seriously, this woman must be a vampire.
